Into the Spider-Verse Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse News and General Discussion Thread

There's no way this doesn't win Best Animated Film. I refuse to believe that the Academy would rather choose Ralph Breaks the Internet or Incredibles 2 - two movies that haven't even been as well received as their precedessors - over it.

There also is Isle of Dogs and foreign animated films as well to contend with. I don't see Ralph as getting nominated, Disney in the last four years only got two nods once (and that was the 'Zootopia' and 'Moana' year). However, that said - despite what anyone may want - 99% certainty it's gonna be 'Incredibles 2' (as stated, Disney always wins by this point even if it may seem to be by default). This isn't coming from an 'Incredibles 2' fan either - I disliked that film a lot and don't plan on seeing it more than that once.

****, you're right. Yeah... no way they choose a Spider-Man movie over Anderson's most recent flop. The dream is dead.

It's the Academy and it is Wes Anderson, it'll likely get nominated over Ralph for that reason (Disney rarely gets two nods, Mr. Fox was nominated and that flopped too). What I'm saying is acting as though there's only Incredibles and Ralph is incredibly narrow. That said though - don't see it happening since at this point Disney wins by default.

As someone pointed out, the Big Hero 6 year was the year it would have happened and once again by default it went to Disney.

Keep on dreaming, I'm just saying winning isn't that realistic. Nomination - in the bag.

That's where the Annie's come in.

Isle, like Fox, is nominee for sure. Disney rarely gets two nods, so Ralph is most likely out (I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it's a Moana). I loved Smallfoot, but no way do I see it being nominated. Great critic reviews, similar box office as Mr. Fox and Mr. Fox got the nod - Isle is this year's Fox basically. They love Anderson.

Every year foreign films get nominated.

Win though, that's always went to Disney even if it does seem to be by default by this point.

I'd say I agree with this list with the exception of Ralph:

And this list seems on point too:

2019 Best Animated Feature Oscar: Here Are The Likely Contenders And Hopefuls

Nominee is in the bag, win - that's really going to be a hurdle since the Academy (as the last four years have shown) loves Disney.

Lol to everyone who wrote this movie off/hoped it fail cause it wasn’t starring Peter Parker. I’m so happy with the reviews, that Miles is actually the lead, and I can’t wait to see it.

Also if it’s worthy I’d love to see it get an Oscar but honestly don’t know it’s chances of winning. Much of the academy dont watch the animated films nor vote in the category, and the ones that do only vote by which made their kids laugh more and which they thought was the cutest...

I'm happy Miles is getting the spotlight here 'cause he's definitely underappreciated, but it's still a Spider-Verse film with something for everyone. I've read that even if people aren't a fan of Miles they still get plenty of great moments from other characters, which is the beauty of this concept. The concept ultimately works so well because it's rooted in Miles story with his family.

I'm looking forward to Spider-Gwen the most, I love her world.

Does anyone know when tickets go on sale? I heard it was supposed be Wednesday but my AMC theatre don’t have any available besides for the advance viewings.

Apparently Oscar Issac as Spider-Man 2099
That's really cool. I've heard the after credits scene is really funny/ one of the best, I'm just gonna guess that might part of the after credits scene.

I was gonna correct something relating to Gwen from a few pages back, but eh the movie is almost here.

Tbh I'm not sure what this reaponse is getting at when it comes to what was stated above you ...but I've also read that all the characters get great moments too, and to me that isn't an automatic indication that people should watch a movie for other characters if they dislike who the movie/story focuses on.

Personally I wouldn't do it but I guess there's a bigger con than using/wasting money.

He's non-existent in live action, we've just now started to see him outside of comics, (2 in cartoons, 1 in a novel, and this movie), and in comics if it's not his own book or his team book, it's a a couple of guest appearances, a spider event or a comic event crossover and that's the only time you'll see the character.

Yeah... that's not shoe-horning, that's just not liking the character's existence or him being used.

Big Hero 6 beat out How to Train Your Dragon 2. While the Lego Movie wasn't even nominated. I would reign in your expectations.

I thought Lego movie was crap very borning and I hated the end but ever one loved it I dont get it. HTTYD 2 was ok and Big hero 6 was great saw it much later though has I wasn't expecting much.

The response is getting at it's a Spider-Verse film introducing multiple characters, including a middle-aged Peter Parker. Miles is the anchor of the story but there are other Spider-people who people will enjoy and perhaps even prefer despite their supporting roles.

I feel you, to an extent. I felt that way when they shoved him from the Ultimate universe into the 616 in the comics. I thought the Ultimate universe was the PERFECT story. Have Peter die, have Miles take over, and leave classic Peter in the 616. However, the sales began to dwindle as the Ultimate universe was dying post-Ultimatum. Death of Spider-Man was pretty much the death of most people's interest in the Ultimate Universe. Ultimates sucked so hard after Ultimates 2, and Ultimate X-Men was a sinkhole for talent! Bendis, Kirkman, Millar, and so many others tried to lift that book out of the filth, but it just wasn't salvageable. The artists lined up on that book alone should have sold it, but nothing worked.

So, Miles was brought into the 616 to keep him in existence. Also, we saw him pop up in every Spidey-related thing after that. Video games and cartoons had him in there. Eh.

Then my son was born and got a few years on him. Now, we are not the same ethnicity of Miles, but that's not important. My son saw Miles, and said, "Hey, he's just a kid like me!"

That's the thing. No matter how young they portray Peter, he's still a Spider-MAN, and we all know that. With Miles, he comes across more as a kid. He doesn't have to have a job and support his elderly aunt, he has parents and goes to school, and he has problems, but he still gets to be a young teenager, without all the VERY adult problems Peter Parker has had since his inception.

So, a few years older, and I see his importance through my son's eyes.

As for my daughter, her name is Gwen. 7 years ago, we started calling her "Spider-Gwen" because she wore her Spider-Girl costume all the time.

I will see this movie at least 3 times in the theater just to see the look in her eyes when her namesake swings across that screen. And then I'll buy whatever over-priced Blu-ray they make, and I'll watch it a million times.

I would do this if Spider-Man were voiced by Ricky Martin and tap-danced to "Livin' La Vida Loca", if i meant my kids could see their favorite Spider-People on the screen! The fact that the movie seems to be AMAZING (pun intended) just sweetens the deal!

Wow, we're at 45 reviews, no negatives...this is cray-cray in a good way!
