If there's one thing about the MCU Spidey movies so far that I've felt most positive about it's probably Vulture and Mysterio. Only thing about Mysterio I wasn't happy about was the Stark connection, fine the first time but not a second, and please not another one in this third movie.

Well, in the classic comics, he did start off by robbing Stark Industries :o

It's not a question for me of whether they can make it work, but why they would want the stigma that comes with it. It's been pointed out that Jamie Foxx is a good actor, but it's not like Marvel Studios is some small outfit that can't attract talent. Just this year they got Christian Bale to play a villain.

The idea that they're doing a Spider-Verse film and using it to set up the Sinister Six is a better explanation for what's happening here than anything.

Honestly it's more likely that Foxx is playing an entirely new version of Electro rather than his TASM2 incarnation, and it's also more likely that this is setting up the Sinister Six and not the Multiverse, tho it's possible that it's both.

On Maguire coming back, that'd be awesome but I'm not sure how likely it is. Isn't he basically semi-retired from acting?

I hope it is a new incarnation, but say what you will about TASM2 and Jamie Foxx's Electro, this is still one of my favorite Spider-Man action sequences in live action

Agreed. The only good action scene in either ASM film imo.

Haven't seen him in anything since The Great Gatsby, so it's possible.

Agreed. the idea that they cast him to play a different version just sounds odd if you ask me. Jamie Foxx isn't quite JK simmons when it comes to a fun call back character. and there are plenty of award-winning actors out there. no they are likely bringing him back for a reason and if those other rumors are true... more might be on the way.

I also think everyone is putting too much thought into Electro when i don't think he is gonna be the only one. i also don't think Marvel have the mentality of We Can't Do That Yet.

Haven't seen him in anything since The Great Gatsby, so it's possible.

Money talks.

He said he isn't retired and he'd do whatever he feels called too.

If Spider-Man isn't his calling, I don't know what is.

I think there will be two separate films : The first film being a Spiderman 3 with multiple baddies including Electro, and a Separate Spiderverse- multiverse film which may bring back Maguire, Garfield, and other actors from the franchises past.

I think those two options are very possible at least on Sony's end.

If there's one thing fandom should have learned from this year, its to never say never when Hollywood is concerned.

No one on these boards, or in fandom would have thought Michael Keaton would be returning as Batman nor Foxx returning to the Spiderman franchise, only half of fandom thought there would be a Snyder cut released in the near future, less fans then that thought Ben Affleck would return as Batman, and no one ever dreamed that Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller's Flash's would interact on a tv show.

Alot of fans may be ahead of themselves on the future of Spiderman on film, but at this point, its more folly to say something isn't possible, than to say something is possible.

This is a new era, and studios are beginning to think outside the box as far as approaching these films.

Do you guys think they'll have to film this exclusively abroad? I don't see the situation re: COVID improving enough to where they can feasibly film in the US.

Foxx's Electro is pretty much a different villain with the same powers as Electro.

Where are they finishing filming Falcon and Winter Soldier at? I'm not sure if that was in the US the last couple weeks or not.

I'm suddenly not interested into this. I don't want a reduX of Jamie FoXX's Electro. I was hoping someone we haven't seen in a Spidey movie or someone we havent seen Spidey fought since the original trilogy. Tasm2 is still fresh in my mind.

I'm a little iffy on this too. Just one movie ago the multiverse was a fakeout for Mysterio, now they're steering into it. Plus I figured they had enough going on with Peter on the run with his identity exposed, plenty of new material for a whole movie to play with.

Well I’m happy about this . Electro and lizard felt bland and boring the asm series and I welcome them back with open arms. I want an electro that goes all out like Spider-Man ps4 and a lizard who is not some giant goomba. So I’m all for bringing back the asm villains to be better told in the mcu. Just no stark connection please.

also black suit please since they keep dancing around the fact venom is coming

Considering what Sony still wants us to believe about their separate batch movies being part of the MCU, it will be so awkward to see the Venom symbiote move from Hardy to decide it likes Holland instead, or give us a new take on the Venom symbiote, and then leaves Holland to return to 'Frisco to possibly antagonize Spider-Man.

One thing these Sony Split Spidey Spin-Offs did that Netflix couldn't do is hire an important player from MCU movies and take their character to place him in their movies. Black Maria's actress had a short role in Civil War before we saw her in Luke Cage, but BM was not mourning her deceased son who died in Sokovia, and her CW role wasn't a councilwoman but a secretary.

Foxx's Electro was like something you'd see on the Flash TV series with his blue skin and hoodie. They didn't even need to call him Electro.

He needs to be in green and yellow this time round.

That’s quite the insult. :hehe:

Heck, speaking as a Snyder fan, I never expected him to be given the chance to complete his original version of Justice League. Yet, here we are now.

Which for me is not dismissing the idea of Sony and the MCU building towards a Spider-Verse just yet. Jamie Foxx's post with that fan art still seems suspicious and calculated to me.

BUT! how many toys can that sell for Marvel? vs several spider-men and several villains?

Director: So we got this idea about a peter being on the run and being hunted by Kraven the hunter.
Marvel: I see... But how many toys do you think we could sell?
Director: Perhaps 2, maybe 3. and we could throw in a new suit for the end again.
Marvel: Hardly a step up from the last.
Director: Well we could do the Spiderverse with multiple spider-men and multiple villains. it might be expensive.
Marvel: How many toys would that sell?
Director: 10+ perhaps
Marvel: You know what to do.

Sony is probably really happy about the multiverse stuff so they can connect the MCU Spider-Man to Venom and Morbius.

Do we even know for certain they ain't part of the same universe? i mean we see Vulture in Mobius. thats abit of a connection right there. or are we now saying he is a NEW Vulture but played by the same actor too.

One of the reasons i am willing to bet they are doing the spiderverse NOW. is because they have opened the door for it with Wandavision and as much as many fans say oh they should wait for the 6th movie... why let a door close so you need to find another one later on?

I think people really underestimate Marvel and Kevin Feige.

I think all the studios ( Marvel, Sony, WB) are stepping up their games with regards to these properties in the 2020s.

They're all delving into the Multiverse concept, albeit each in their own ways.

The idea of reaching back to prior actors, casting alternate actors as alternate versions, and having multiple versions of the same characters on film and tv simultaneously, is no longer considered "off limits" .

This ain't the 90s anymore.

The studios are looking to exploit these properties in as many ways possible and that means going beyond what they've done in the past.
