Spider-Man (PS4)

nah, see that's the thing. if it were a movie tie-in, I think that's still up to activision to make the game. they have those rights till 2017 or something like that, and the game would be multiplatform.

the game we've been hearing about is a Ps4 exclusive. for all we know, this could be something about the MCU deal from last year; let's face it, that deal was still a miracle and in and of itself and maybe part of it was sony asking disney something like "oh yeahhh btw can we make our own Ps4 game while we're at it to hype the movie up?"

guess we'll just have to find out.

I don't care what form it takes. I just want a great Spidey game that rivals the Arkham games.

and if that means doing an original story, so be it.

bro i remember binge watching that last year.

it's some of the best spiderman stuff i have ever seen in my entire life.

edit: but i wasn't suggesting that it should be based on the cartoon, i was saying it should be that cartoon's universe.

There's no way in hell that happens. SSM is gone, dead. They're not going to base it on something that next to no one knows about these days. Ultimate Spider-Man... maybe but I don't see them going for a cartoon tie-in.

It's either the movie tie-in, something original or could tie in with the animated feature film coming out 2018. I don't see them announcing it 2 years ahead though so it's either movie tie-in or original story. I'm leaning more towards movie tie-in because the thirst for the MCU Spidey is very real.
And MCU Spidey is as close as it gets to spectacular Spider-Man (a young goofy Spidey).

Also the whole MCU Activision license thingy got me thinking... do they REALLY have the exclusive rights? Gameloft released 2 movie tie-ins on mobile? Does Activision have the console exclusivity or do they just have the permission to do movie tie-ins... but others could theoretically get the same permission?
I mean their press release states exclusive publishing rights but there surely has to be a loophole for Gameloft to do tie-ins too? Or is Gameloft owned by Activision, that'd be news to me.

There have been mobile Spidey games for years. That has nothing to do with Activision's license which is for console/handheld/PC

yeah I agree with that. i'm just having big dreams with small eyes.

you know, people used to say that about spiderman being in the MCU.

Keep in mind that "they" here, is sony. they were behind that cartoon too. if it's up to them, they can do it if really want to. also, as for "no one" knowing about it...I go on youtube and I type spectacular spiderman and I see a video from last year that's got 3 million views. and a video from several years ago with 60 million views...so it's a bit ignorant to say that no one even these days knows about it.

Like I already said, the rights for a movie tie-in lie with Activision, and it would be multiplatform. If it were a movie tie-in, I don't see why there would be any rumored sort of hype behind it. There never is. This thread is about an exclusive Sony Spiderman game.

Activision has the rights to make the movie-tie in games, until 2017. something like that. but there wouldn't be rumor milled hype behind a movie tie-in game. that's just weird.

I doubt it will have anything to do with SSM, either, since it's not a current series.

It wont. It wouldnt make sense. Like Tim said, thats dead. Sony gave up the animation rights, the show was cancelled and soon after Disney bought Marvel and decided on developing their own series. It wouldnt make sense to promote a series that no longer exists when they are currently producing one. If there's a cartoon tie in, it would be Ultimate Spider-Man, but definitely not SSM

again, big dreams with small eyes.

wishful thinking on my part

haha, I get you, XB. SSM is a great show.

I'm almost done binge watching it. just sad it didn't go beyond 2 seasons.

would have been nice if we did get a game based on the show back when it was on. but alas, as the others have said above, that ship has longed since sailed.

that being said, I wouldn't mind if they incorporated elements from the show, especially if it turns out to be an original story for the game.

it would be a refreshing change of pace to have a game with younger Spidey in his HS days.

The cancellation of SSM is still one of the biggest crimes in comics animation. There's a small part of me that will never forgive Sony/Disney for how they treated that program.

Disney didnt do anything to it. It had nothing to do with them, although people tend to use them as a scapegoat

growing up, I had 2 paperback collections of classic Spidey comics in black and white ( Essential Spider-Man volumes, I think they were called ).

watching SSM is literally like watching those classic comics come to life, with a modern twist.

I definitely hope the new Spidey film franchise with Tom can pick up where SSM left off and capture the spirit of the character in the same way.

I will say this about MJ in SSM, though. Damn!! That girl gets around.....lol.

Yes,that was a Shame indeed. It's the best interpretation of Spider-Man by far in any form of media.

You're in luck. The MCU Spidey is the best one yet: a young goofy Spidey.

That's why I'm totally down for another movie tie-in IF they manage to capture the MCU Spidey.

You have NO idea how refreshing the young take on the character is. Especially when they also nail the normal life / Peter aspect (instead of giving us TASM2 / Mr. Prada I'm too cool for school with the hottest chick in town and my football player friends after 1 movie).

well, finished both seasons of SSM last night.

damn!! it is a shame it didn't continue beyond 2 seasons. would have loved to see how the Peter / Gwen relationship turned out and would have loved to see Peter and MJ finally get together in the end.

but, I'm glad to hear that the MCU Spidey is similar in spirit to SSM Spidey.

just hope Marvel can nail the rest of Spidey's supporting cast like SSM did.

Sony gave up the animation rights

Sort of. They can't make any more cartoons, but they still have the rights to the show itself. It wouldn't be impossible for them to do something with the property, but I doubt they would, since other than DCAU/Timm stuff, execs never give animated properties a lot of value. Sad, but true.

No way in hell thats true. Disney takes over the rights to Marvel and shortly after it, SSM ends. That's not a coincidence. Disneys hands aren't free from the blood of that show, not at all.

No they didnt and you are misinformed. Yes it was a coincidence. Sony gave up the animation rights to Marvel BEFORE Disney purchased them. They did so, to get more pull with the films. Without those rights, Sony was unable to continue making the cartoon, so they effectively cancelled it themselves. Disney bought Marvel right after that happened. Sony retained creative license to SSM bc that was their creation and bc of that Disney couldnt have just continued on with the show even if they wanted to.

they have the rights to the show but they cant do anything with it without Disney and considering Disney already has an ongoing series about a young Spidey, theres no reason why they would

well, regardless of which party decided to end the show, it's a damn shame it ended after only 2 seasons.

what's your source?

Nope. Nothing Disney does is a coincidence. Disney had every opportunity to continue that series, even if that meant a licensing deal with Sony to continue that series, but they didn't. They completely ignored the quality of the show and let it go under so they could do their own show, which turned out to be the (comparatively)awful USM. No matter how desperately you want them to be, Disney isn't innocent in the death of The Spectacular Spider-Man.

sure if you want to continue to hate on them but that would have made absolutely no sense. Sony relinquishes the license to air the cartoon to Marvel, only to have Disney buy them and have to pay Sony to air said cartoon? That would have been a super sweet yet unrealistic deal for Sony.

When Disney purchased Marvel, all existing licensing deals remained in place. They didnt simply become null and void bc Disney owned the company. Its why to this day they still dont have movie rights to FF, Xmen, Spider-Man (Sony retains that), and only now the last of the videogame licenses are about to run out. Anything that was in place before the 2009 acquisition, Disney wasnt legally able to end. Sony ended SSM when they gave up the animation license. That wasnt Disney or Marvel's doing. It would have been a backwards deal to have either have to license the cartoon out from Sony

so, assuming this game is real, what kind of art style do you want to see?

realistic, like the Infamous games?

or something more cartoony, cell shaded, etc.?
