I've looked and I can't find a Spider-Man respect thread. So here it is. Let's show amazing feats of agility and strength.

I just reread ASM #269/270, when he beats the crap outta FireLord...

W00T!!!

:yay:

Spider-Man kicks ass now and forever! The current comcis are great. Mainly if you're a huge Spidey fan, like me, as I've said. I'm deeply...no...I'm EXTREMELY looking foward to ASM 600 and the future of Spidey. :spidey::up:

Yeh...TMOB...I've always loved the Firelord 2-parter. Still remember the first time I read it....long long ago in a galxy far away.

HOw about the Mad Dog Ward? Anyone remember that? Different but good. I think it was a 4 parter?

^^ Mad Dog Ward was a good story, IMO.

You know what else is really good? The story invovling Iguana, Spider-Man, and the Lizard. It lasted from Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man issue's 32-34. Great sorry, if you ask me.

Best Spidey story ever told. Period.
This is EVERYTHING that the character is about, and should be. :spidey:

I can't say that I've read those stories yet, but the covers are so different that they are basically branded into my brain.

What's it about?

One of my favorites. Probably my second favorite, or possibly my favorite. Also, as you said, it defines Spider-Man. :spidey::up:

I dont know if people will agree with me but my favorite story is Spiderman #75 where Ben Reilly dies. I dunno something about the setup of the story just really demonstrated how much of a true hero Peter is. EVERYBODY's lives were on the line in that issue: All of peter's friends were trapped in the bugle rigged with explosive pumpkin bombs, Ben was beaten to a pulp by Norman already and last but not least MJ and the baby's lives were on the line as well. All these people were depending on a Peter Parker who had given up being Spider-man but nevertheless re-donned the mantle in order to save his friends and family despite the odds...beautiful storytelling if you ask me.

Aloha,
No wonder you and i get along.
Yes, for me, this three part story arc is the definitive Spider-Man story. So sad that in Spider-Man 2 the movie, Raimi completely BLEW this scene. This should have had enough drama to get an academy award. Spider-Man shrugs.

Are you kidding?! What are the chances you ask that when I'm seriously reading them right now. I'm on the last comic right now.

What's your all time favorite? (other favorite)

I'm real partial to the Stan Lee/ditko/romita era of Spider-man. :yay:

It's not in my top ten but I love that story as well. :cwink:
The issues after the clone saga weren't THAT bad. Some stories were quite good. Like the one leading up to the moment where Peter quits being Spider-man (again) :whatever:

He saves the bugle and everyone in the surrounding area and people are downing him, but only Mj was right there with him. I love that moment. It just kinda says to me "appreciate those who are there for you".

I agree. When he lifted that big thing off of himself and Mj they turned it into a joke. (haha moment not an insult lol)
I love the first two movies, but they are missing so much potential with the Spider-man character. I love Iron Man, but he shouldn't be doing better on the big screen. He's certainly never defined an era in comics. (and I am a HUGE Iron man fan also)

I think they play up the "dorky loser" thing a bit too much. Peter grows past that even during Stan's run. :o

We need two more things, Spidey quips and Peter needs to start using his brain. Also if the 4th movie includes another "damsel in distress plot".
I'll lose my mind. The movie's have become to formulaic

Than I don't know if I'll go to another theater to see another Spidey movie again. I guessed the ending to the third movie. I don't know If I want to support sony because I'm stoked now that I've seen what Marvel can do if they obtain their character rights. (Incredible Hulk and Iron man could not have been more perfect) :woot:

I know some people may think "im hard to impress" or I'm just complaining.
Not really, if anyone thinks this is as good as Spidey can get on film.......than their expectations are just plain low. :csad:

I was just going through early to mid 80's stories. And man, 80's was a ****ing great decade for Spider-Man, and all his titles then.

The Kraven's Last Hunt still is a huge favorite of mine.

I can agree with most of that. As my sig says, he certainly needs to quip more. That is such huge part of the character they're missing. It comes through here and there but not often.

I thought they did it pretty well in the recent cartoon series.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttks8iAfnog

And I didn't think it was done that bad in Spider-Man 2. I loved how they just said "hi" to eachother. It was so realistic.

Aloha,
The cartoon was better than the movie version. But one thing about #33, it shows to what lengths Peter will go to save the life of Aunt May.He would literally move heaven and Earth. And if need be -deal with the devil.

Yeah, I'm just hoping that a character like Deadpool doesn't get on screen and start making with the jokes.

Than audiences that see that character will start associating him as Marvel's main funny man. That's just not true.

Although as long as Fox has the rights to the character....I highly doubt that.

Does anyone know why they have used less and less quips throughout the movie series??

I think the main problem is...they try to hard to change these characters to appeal to a mass audience.

That's definitely not needed.

Stan gave them all the tools they need to appeal to a mass audience. They just need to put them ALL to work.

LOL trying to sneak a justification of One more day in there huh?
Sneaky.......:cwink:

For my 2 cents, I would have to say Amazing Spidey 229 and 230 where he battles Juggernaught. That was one heck of a fight and one where he knew full well that he couldn't win and just kept coming back for a beating!

I honestly don't know. I jsut feel I have a different favorite, but now that I've thought about it, I think the Master Planner story is my favorite. I also LOVED ASM annual #1, so that's naother one of my many favorites. ASM Annual #5 is also a personal favorite of mine as well. I jsut have so many favorites but I think the Master Planner story is my #1 favorite.

I loved how Ock mentions the Master Planner in ASM #600...

My next favorite to the master planner story is the Night Gwen Stacy died.
I think it really reinforces Amazing fantazy # 15, it's also the first step towards Peter and Mj's marriage.

Ya know, I really try to justify "One more day" in my mind. That it was a great sacrifice.

But It's not just Peter's own sacrifice. He was NOT a hero in that story.

There's a difference from beating insurmountable odds and putting someone you love through emotional pain to fix your own mistakes.

I can't imagine that a "hero" would put any one (Mj) through pain like that just so his own Aunt's death wouldn't be "his fault", when it wasn't to begin with.

To watch your marriage and your child just poof out of existence is unbearable. They literally killed Baby May, to bring back Old May. She wouldn't have approved of that. (Which is why I think JJJ SR. is mephisto)

As long as I've read Spidey he's always been the type to NEVER let anyone take a fall for him. Even if other heroes are out there.

It just seemed so selfish to me, and that goes against everything the character is supposed to stand for. His morals are flexible, but selfishness is the reason his uncle died.

I know some people are able to ignore that and love Brand new day for what it is, but its really hard for me. This isn't my Spider-man any more.

I do grade the stories on their own merits........but they really broke the character for me. :csad:

Nail, on the head.

Well, he's a human being, and humans make poor decisions when under duress. They can be the most heroic, honest person in the world, but everyone acts selfishly once and awhile. I mean, his life was going down the crapper, his ID outed, on the run etc. Then his aunt is shot by someone going after him. I'm surprised he didn't go all, "I am the Spider". Yes, OMD was a ludicrous premise, but considering the circumstances, I can see Peter doing what he did. Was it right choice? No, but I don't see my favorite character as broken at all.

A guy that gives up being married to a supermodel who is carring his baby so that his aunt who is 120, who has had a dozen heart attacks, can live maybe one more year is a moron. He traded a life (his daughter) for the life of his aunt who has lived a full life and is WELL into old age so that she can live a short time longer. They made him out to be an absolute moron. Not to mention a dirt bag for essentially killing his daughter.
