Comics Spidey Book Sales (ASM +)

Sure, whatever you say, farmer... ur, I mean Dan. :cwink:

:awesome:

Oh brother.

how many places must i yelp from the hills that I am not Dan Slott.

:csad:

Jeez, JewishHobbit, next time can you take a sec to read the posts and follow the thread a little before you start spreading personal judgments like "Upstanding guy there, Dan :down" around? :csad:

Most people got the gag.

I read about 3 pages worth, you admited, continued to admit it, and so forth. I assumed I could take you at your word at that point.

Oh brother.

how many places must i yelp from the hills that I am not Dan Slott.

:csad:

:cmad:
The nerve of this guy! First he creates this username to create a "parody" of us fans who still care about Spidey and can't stand this OMD/BND devil created world.

Then he let's us in on the gag to make all us look like losers!

Now, he's trying to get us to believe that he and "farmernudie" are not the same, so he can go back to mocking us again!!!

Get a life, Dan! Go back to writing your devil-reliant Spider-Man! :cmad:

:cwink:

Nice to "have you back," nudie! :woot:

Dear Lord,
I am NOT farmernudie.

Did ANYONE read the actual post?
It was on a thread arguing whether people abuse their anonymity by hiding behind screen names-- and if we should all start using our real names instead (like myself, Steve Wacker, Mark Waid, Kurt Busiek, and others do.)

I use a screen name to.

1) Protect my identity and family
2) I'm not famous such as yourself and your coworkers.
* So I don't have anything to prove. :awesome:

If I feel comfortable with the person knowing my identity I'll let them know!
Quite a few posters here have either been added as myspace friends or have at least seen my face.

Besides I'm sure you've had some people ask you if your the real Dan Slott right?

I don't have to prove that I am the REAL ----- ah you thought you had me!:P

Anyways,
Some people came to the table late (like people who turned on Orson Welles' WAR OF THE WORLD'S broadcast WITHOUT hearing the disclaimer) and this thing has spread to other web-sites.

Here's the thing:
It's INSANE. Both of these guys (farmernudie and whiteshark) have been posting on CBR for YEARS and MANY, MANY OTHER SITES AS WELL. If I HAD been these TWO POSTERS while doing my OWN posts as well... There's NO WAY the timing could've worked out AT ALL. I obviously would NEVER have slept, taken ANY vacations, or had ANY time to do my frickin' JOB! Anyone with common sense would've figured this out. Oy.

I was going to say something, but you'll get offended.

The sad thing is, farmernudie likes going to a site that is (on the whole) VERY negative about the current SPIDER-MAN book, and now all of his fellow posters there have effectively shunned him because he's having a HELLUVA time convincing them that he's NOT me. I've profusely apologized to farmernudie and he has GRACIOUSLY accepted. (Thank God!) But c'mon, people. Can we all put 2 and 2 together and come up 4 already. Jesus.

I want this poor guy to have his internet-life back and happily go back to his regular bashing sessions about ASM with his regular bashing buddies. Instead of BEING the one who's gettin' bashed! He's a nice guy-- married, works in the medical field, likes Calvin & Hobbes, reads lots of Marvel Comics, and likes dishing on why he thinks my book sucks. I did NOT make him up out of the ether. Can we all give him a break?

Jeez, JewishHobbit, next time can you take a sec to read the posts and follow the thread a little before you start spreading personal judgments like "Upstanding guy there, Dan :down" around? :csad:

Most people got the gag.

Most folk in your position do not make such jokes. Forgive me for taking you seriously. Farmernudie has said A LOT of things to myself and other posters that suggest he just wouldn't "play along". I'm not going to put any words in his mouth because it was personal, but I think you'll get the point when I say it's absolutely ASTONISHING.

I know you probably won't see it this way, but when you tell someone something personal about yourself and than you are being honest with them. It hits you really hard when you find out they were lying about their own personal life. I apologize I should have thought it out better and checked more instead of being hit with that gut reaction.

At $2.99 and $3.99 how are comic books still selling in stores when they can be found cheaper from dealers at comic conventions? I've had to cut back on single issues and wait for the TPB.

Flash, GL, Bats, Cap and Thor are the only solo comics that rank above ASM for the month. Flash is #1, so is unlikely to be a consisent top 10, but one never knows. Thor and Cap have had pretty good buzz. Batman was in free-fall for awhile, but rebounded this month. ASM took a bit of a drop. We'll see if the Lizard pulls him back up. You can sure see why DC & Marvel like all the "event" books: they sell. And the tie ins boh sell and seem to boost the fortunes of other books. One of these days, I'm going to have to chart how well the individual creative teams for ASM do. Thor and Cap both received major boosts because of the creative teams. It's a little tricker for ASM as we've got the rotating cabal.

Batman, Green Lantern, the Flash and Thor are the only "solo heroes" to best ASM. Everything else is an event or a group book. I'm a bit surprised that Avengers 1 did better than Siege's conclusion--although it's true that Siege was sort of lame. I'm a bit surprised that Spidey does no better than 21, because I think the more recent books have been great.

And the Ultimate line is in free-fall since the re-boot. Except the Ultimate Avengers--the various Avengers titles seem to be smokin'.

Aloha,
That's the message that Marvel gets from these things. Spidey books sell when there's controversy. The Gauntlet is a good arc and for the most part well written. But that's not exciting-Wait until OMIT! Then people will be coming out of the woodwork to voice their disdain, displeasure, etc, etc.

Batman & Superman 700 and Flash and Green Lantern are the only solo adventures that beat ASM. Only two comics broke the 100K plateau and only the Avengers and the X-Men beat ASM in the Marvel stable. Thor, Hulk, & Wolverine have all fallen from their former glory. And of the top 10 books, only Batman and Green Lantern manage to squeeze in as solo books (and Batman was issue 700). Although more comics are being sold, there's a greater variety available, so individual issues are experiencing lower sales. Team books and events seem to be dominating the sales charts as well. You can definitely see why Marvel & DC focus on big events. DC has got to be loving Blackest Night...I wouldnt be surprised if we see a sequel.

Not surprised that Spider-Man gets a boost from OMIT (although it remains to see what the following chapters of that story will do). Still a shame though that you can put any kind of crap in a title like ASM and it will still sell much better than many quality comics. But that's how the world works. Just look at what kind of movies that usually are the biggest hits.

ASM is doing quite well. I'm surprised Superman hasn't gotten more of a boost from JMS.

So let me get this straight....

The FIRST issue of Superman, written by the much heralded JMS on these Spidey boards, sold slightly less than any of the three ASM books?

:yay:

So let me get this straight....

:yay:

What works for Marvel doesn't necessarily work for DC. Nice try though.

When you look at the 10 main writers on ASM pre-OMD, JMS falls in the last 3...

1) Stan Lee
2) Marv Wolfman
3) Roger Stern
4) Len Wein
5) Gerry Conway
6) JM DeMattheis
7) Tom DeFalco
8) David Micheline
9) JMS
10) Howard Mackie

I realise that's a purely opinionated list on my part, but I think "most" Spider-readers would put JMS above my Top Six...

... so "nice try" in thinking that JMS "worked" for ASM. :cwink:

The only reason he was so "good" is that we were subjected to Howard Mackie for so long prior to him... though I will admit he nailed characterization to Peter, Aunt May & MJ.

:yay:
