About an hour or so this strange antivirus program popped up on my screen called Vista Antivirus Pro 2010. I suspected spyware right away and used system restore. So far it hasn't popped up , but does anyone know anything about this ?

i'm not familiar with it, but what kind of spyware/antivirus/firewall protection are you running to protect your computer currently?

I'd recommend, AVG, and Malwarebytes

You were right to be suspicious, it's a total scam. Another person reported a similar issue here. If you've already done a system restore to a time before you began experiencing problems then go ahead and use Malwarebytes (download here) as ComicChick suggested to make sure you're rid of it for good.

I use AVG and Windows Defender for my spyware/antivirus protection.

I think I know how I got it too. I downloaded some porn from tube8 and my computer was acting kinda sluggish.

At least he is honest about how he got it. I get tired of hearing, "I don't know how I got it. I wasn't doing anything wrong."

Yeah , kids these days ain't honest about nothin' . Back in my days if you lied about something they'd make you make a switch from a tree and then tied barbed wire around it. And you were happy about it too because it built character !:cmad:

It came back and I didn't even do anything !:cmad:

SuperANTISpyware could also help.

Spybot or Malwarebytes can also help

I got Antivirus XP 2010 at work yesterday. Took Malwarebytes the better part of a day of scanning to actually get rid of it. I honestly don't know how I got it, either. Obviously, I'm not downloading porn at work (not because porn is bad, just because at work it'd be really, really creepy). I visit the Hype at work and I was looking at this online delivery service to figure out what I wanted for lunch; my guess is that an ad on one of those sites somehow managed to install it without my noticing. :o

If you can pull the drive and connect it as an external drive to another computer. Scan it with malwarebytes and superantispyware this way. Then put it back in the original pc, bootup and go into safemode and run them both again. Full scans. It should eliminate it. This virus does run rampant and we've been getting it here at work a lot.

Malwarebytes should take care of it

I think one of the Hype's advertisers may be responsible for this Antivirus XP thing. I was on the Hype at work today in IE, opened a thread in a new tab, and it suddenly went to a blank page with that alert window saying "Your computer has been compromised" or whatever. Luckily, I hit esc to close the alert window and then closed the tab really quickly. No Antivirus XP so far. But if there's a way to investigate or test the Hype's ad providers, I would suggest it. I'd be bored as hell if I couldn't visit the Hype at work. :csad:

Any idea what ads were on the page at the time? Or maybe what thread you were viewing? When did this happen? Any more information you can give?

Not sure what ads or what thread, since I opened like 3 of them in new tabs right around the same time. It happened maybe an hour to an hour and a half before I posted, so like 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. EST yesterday.

Hate to bump this or anything, but I've been hit with the same problem. It first happened roughly a month ago. I went into Safe Mode, nuked it with Malware Bytes, and then went about my business. It's resurfaced here in the last two weeks, and I've been hit several times. I think it has to be this site. For one, I'm always on the Hype when I get hit, with the last two I was only on the Hype.

Now, more so, this week I have my Grandfather's laptop. My uncle was borrowing it, and I ran the adware/spyware gauntlet on it. It was infested with stuff, but I cleaned it up. Earlier this evening, I get hit with it on this laptop, while browsing the hype. I guess it's possible that virus was on this laptop, and the other stuff didn't detect it.

But, coupled with all that and Corp's experience at work, it seems to be the biggest possiblity to me.

Now, that in itself is a giant pain in the ass, but the last few times I've went into Safe Mode and cleaned it out, I guess it killed off some important files or something, because when I reboot, I can't do anything outside run Internet Explorer. So, I have to System Restore. I assume that brings out the virus files, so I scan with Malware, but it never shows up anything.

So, yeah, I'm not sure what to do or anything. Though, I'm fairly certain it's coming from here unless it's just a timed virus or something.

I've noticed that sometimes I'll open a Hype link and it'll redirect to an IP address with a mock-up of XP's "My Computer" window. It pops up an alert window saying my computer's infected and I should click "OK" to install Antivirus XP and run a scan. This has happened a couple times at work, but I've managed to avoid installing it by Ctrl+Alt+Del'ing and just ending the iexplore.exe process from the Task Manager.

I think what must've happened when I actually did install it last month was that I opened a bunch of Hype links in new tabs, started typing something in one tab, and then another tab got hit with the redirector, popped up the Antivirus XP alert, and since I was already typing, I must've accidentally hit the O key or Enter or something that would effectively click the "OK" button of the alert window.

That's similar to what I experience, but even if I go into Task Manager and shut it out, it still pops up. It keeps looping, and I can only open browsers, nothing else
