He has very clearly stated his reasons. It would take time to develop the extra subplot of the island and the missing artists, and that's time that could be better spent on developing the main characters.

Did you happen to read that interview, or did you just mentally block it out because it didn't conform to your image of Snyder being a hack who wants to chop up Watchmen for no good reason? Are you going to block out this too?

Is that what you really think? Do you really believe that Snyder was like "man, that squids stupid, so lets take it out. Then to tease all those fans that really want it, we'll call the device S.Q.U.I.D. and laugh."?

Also, minor pet peeve, but it's "would have been" not "would of been".

The squid itself is a nod. Like the Joker wearing purple. It is nod because it recalls the comic book.
