Has to be. But for one second... JUST ONE, I thought it might have been the Hypno Hustler. Ohhh man! They need to Ultimize that guy.

I thought it was the Hustler as well.

I'll pick this up!

Ok, what is this about? Is this going to be like the TAS Episode where Spidey meets Stan?
it would be really cool if they made a comic that showed what happend next and concluded the show

also after seeing firefly/serenity, i must say joss whedon is the man

Definitely looks interesting, wish there were words in those previews. But seeing the Coipel artwork in color was fantasmic.

Being a silver age collector, I'm embarrassed that it took me so long to realize the woman in fishnets is the original Black Widow. But the funny thing is, that she never fought with or against Spidey in that outfit. In fact, her first encounter with him introduced her black shiny leather suit.

For money earned on characters he created.

Right. Marvel put in writing that they would give Stan 10% of all the box office income generated by their movies...(not sure if merchandise is included in that...), even from characters he didnt create, such as Blade.

No one anticipated that these movies would do so well, and Marvel got greedy, i guess, and wouldnt pony up.

So Stan sued their asses.

You have a decent point. Technically he created Spider-Man, X-Men, Hulk, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, etc. it would make sense he would get some money off his creations if they were adapted on film.

However, the way the comic book industry works is they are not his property but rather property of Marvel Comics and it is interesting he gets paid for them when most creators don't in this genre, much less for characters he never eve ncreated (Blade, Elektra).

Plus does he really want to get money for Fantastic Four or X3, I know they are based on his work but that is just the thing....the money should feel.....dirty, really.

Well, for me, it's a double-edged sword. On one hand, im estatic for Stan...but what about Ditko? And the Kirby estate? Romita? Kudos for Stan for cashing in on Blade...but what about Blades REAL creator, Marv Wolfman? Wolfman sued, and Marvel settled with him out of court, so hopefully he got hooked up....

ALL of these guys contributed in some way. Heck, Stan & Steve got credit props for the Spidey movie, but didnt Romita co-create Mary Jane and Joe Robertson? Why wasnt HE included?

let's not forget Bill Finger, who while woking for Bob Kane created, iirc, Alfred, The Batcave, The Batmobile, The Bat-signal, Robin, and a HOST of famous rogues...yet he died desitute.

It kind of sucks, but i guess that's how the business worked in those days.

He doesn't get money for characters he didn't create. On films like Blade, he gets an honorary credit as Executive Producer, and if anything, just gets paid for that. Which is, more or less just giving the film his stamp of approval. This, for many people makes it a legit Marvel film. So if Marvel is ,making money off of his name, he should be paid.

And it doesn't matter the way the comic book industry "works". It's unfair for the corporation, who has nothing to do with the creation of the character to profit while the creative individuals make nothing. When work-for-hire agreements were generated, no one expected these characters to do anything more than sell a 10 cent comic book, with the only profit being the few pages of advertising.

As for sequels and so forth, the fact remains the the films couldn't be generated but for the years of work Stan, Jack, Steve, John et al spent grooming these characters into classics that the audience ould care to buy a ticket to see.

I'll give you Bill Finger, it's well documented how much he got screwed by Bob Kane on royalties.

But as for others...well, ultimately, Stan created MOST of those characters in Spider-Man, co-created with artists, it's true...but Stan was the driving force behind Marvel Comics. Without Stan, there is no Marvel. Without Romita or Ditko...well, someone else draws those comics that Stan wrote. Those artists and people like Marv Wolfman deserve mucho credit, esp. if they actually do create the character, in Blade's case...but IMO, every time something gets sold that has the Marvel tag on it, Stan should be getting paid.
