cos he was secret.. lol

"He was secret"? How the hell can you keep a supposedly "ultra-powerful apprentice" secret from one of the more powerful sith in history? How could he possibly train an apprentice without the Empire noticing?

easily. you gotta remeber darth vader is also ultra powerful and its not like him and the emperor sat down and held hands between the episode III and IV.

for all we know he could train him on backwater planets where no one goes. if darth vader said im going out on my own, who the hell would argue with him?

Exactly. A galaxy is a very big place, and Vader can go pretty much anywhere he wants to. It'd be pretty hard for Palpy to keep tabs on him 24/7.

Because George Lucas f'ing says so.

Emperor Palpatine could sense Luke Skywalker's power from half a galaxy away. And Luke, at that time, wasn't even 1/10 as powerful as that teaser would suggest said apprentice was. So, wouldn't you think it possible that maybe... just maybe, Palpatine might sense the apprentice's presence when he stops a ****ing Star Destroyer.

With the Force?

How does one go about cloaking the Force with the Force? I was never aware that was part of canon...

Maybe the Emperor knows. We don't know yet. Plus, why didn't didn't the Emperor sense Luke when they landed on Endor?
Darth Vader: "My son, is with them."
Emperor: "Are you sure?"
Vader: "I've felt him, my master."

Well, isn't it the same thing Palpatine did with himself and the Jedi in the PT?
Obi-Wan: "That's not possible. The Jedi would have been aware of it."
Dooku: "The Dark Side of the Force has clouded their vision, my friend."

I hope I didn't get any of the quotes wrong...:o ...:boba:

Why dont you all just accept that whatever happens is the way its supposed to be. I mean after all Star Wars is, you know, a work of fiction. I mean if George Lucas came out and said Darth Vader actually had a secret love child with Palpatines sister, you'd have no choice but to take it as so.

Well, this sucks. LucasArts was at CES and while they showed the game there, they didn't release anything from it, online. During GameSpot's Live Show of CES, they said that the game looks great, but that they can't talk about it. I'm assuming LucasArts told them not to.

Damnit, i really wanna know how the saber combat is going to fare. That alone will tell me if this game is going to be worth a damn.

In order to see The Force Unleashed at CES, you had to be invited at their private suite. GameSpot was one of the websites that was there but they said they couldn't talk about it. I'm assuming LucasArts told them not to. There was someone else that saw it and even though he couldn't reveal much either, he wrote a little about what he saw.

CES 2008: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

LucasArts was kind enough to invite me out to their private suite to see the latest build of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Unfortunately, they weren't kind enough to give me some hands on time, but the game looks amazing, so I'll let that slide this time.

Set in the time between Episodes III and IV, The Force Unleashed puts players in the shoes of Darth Vader's secret apprentice. You are not some errand boy; the Sith Lord sends you on a quest to wipe out every last Jedi, and you have the unleashed Force at your disposal. If you've ever wanted to be one bad guy against the world, The Force Unleashed is your game.

I got a chance to lay eyes on a Xbox 360 build of the title. Details and story specifics are still on lock down, but I can say that worlds like Raxus Prime and Felucia were a sight to behold. Some stages seemed practically endless, and all were a visual treat even in the game's unfinished state. I had to force a smile and nod every time they looked at me during the demo, the whole time forcing back the urge to snatch away the controller to get a taste for myself.

The game uses two new technologies, DMM (digital molecular matter) and Euphoria. DMM simulates how matter would behave in the real world, opting for realistic calculations over switched animations. Using the Force to bash in metal doors causes them to bend in a very realistic way, and its nice to know that what you're seeing isn't canned animations; it could be different every time you hit it. Every environment's reaction to the player's actions seemed real.

The Euphoria software is a human counterpart to DMM. This gives characters a nervous system, and it enables them to act and react in very human ways. Enemies will dodge shots, take cover, and hold on for dear life when given the opportunity, and this all seems to give the game a real sense of life and depth.

The gameplay looks to be an absolute blast. Every button press seemed to bring about mass destruction, and a string of Force powers can go beyond that to bring about punishing combos. You really get the sense that anything can be destroyed by the Force, and from what I saw, just about anything is game.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a multi-console title, with each version having its own exclusive content. From what I understand, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will be similar. Khrome Studios is developing the PS2 and PSP versions, as well as the anticipated Lightsaber/Wii Remote Wii version. It's also coming to the DS, and will use stylus swipes to input battle commands.

As I said earlier, details are still on lock down, but stay tuned for more on Star Wars: The Force Unleased soon.

From what little he said, it sounds awesome. I just wish they'd show us some new gameplay videos. We've only had the teaser trailer from July.

Yea, but I'm still a bit worried that your are only going to have basic saber attacks. It seems like they are really relying on the force to do all of the hardcore fighting, which is cool, but i MUCH rather kick ass with the light saber. But I'm in agreement with you, we need game play videos damnit.

Another article from CES. Mentions the game is still in alpha! Says it is planned for a Summer release...

CES: First details of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

"So should we show him Grim Fandango 2?" That's the question I'm asked as I walk into Lucasart's suite at CES, and everyone laughs. I don't laugh, because that joke IS NOT FUNNY; it's like they showed me a kitten and then killed it. But we are going to see Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and in terms of impressive use of Force effects, this is above and beyond anything we've seen in previous games.

"Every time you hit that face button, we want you to feel that power," I'm told as I watch one of the Lucasarts employees show off Force Unleashed. I'm not allowed to do a full preview, but I can say that the game is fast and mean; the force powers do some crazy things, and the play is impacted by the physics in amazing ways.

You try to pick up a StormTrooper and he grabs onto a crate while screaming. You yank up on him with the Force again, and both the 'Trooper and the crate fly into the air. The force powers and the physics get even crazier; if you force push a metal door, it twists and deforms realistically. Some of the other things that stood out:

* The main character, the secret apprentice of Darth Vader, is played by Sam Witwer, BattleStar Galactica's Crashdown
* He holds his lightsaber behind his back in a way that looks very unorthodox but pleasingly menacing, and also allows players to see the entire lightsaber since the camera is always behind the player.
* Boss bottles will be huge in scope, including a Rancor fight. There will be God of War-like button-tapping sections at the end of the battle, but it will only be for more points; you won't lose a battle by missing a button press
* There will be character and lightsaber customization, although you won't be able to dual-wield or have dual-bladed lightsabers
* The Wii version of the game will include a two-player duel mode where you can show off your lightsaber skills against a friend in the same room.
* The PSP version will contain classic scenes from other Star Wars movies with the more over-the-top force powers of Unleashed

I was very impressed by the game; it looked great and the Force powers really brought home the idea of this evil, dominating character. The game is currently in alpha and planned for a summer release.

Crap, now I'm torn between the Wii version and the 360 version. I guess I'll wait for reviews.

Well, the 360 will have multiplayer too. Plus, it's going to be online. They haven't announced any specifics though. Not yet. The Wii version could be awesome if they get the controls right, although it isn't being developed by LucasArts and I'm assuming it won't have Euphoria or DMM.

That sounds pretty cool.

And so does that.

Yea, id make the same assumption as well, if Euphoria and DMM actually do what they say it can do, i highly doubt the Wii has enough fire power to run them.

If you can customize the lightsaber (appearance? moves? stances?), it could mean that the melee fighting won't just be an afterhought
