Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

I should clarrify, I don't want to take up sword fighting to have lightsaber fights, that would just be a bonus, but it was Starwars that got me vaguely interested in trying that out when I was younger, adn never did, so now I want to try it on a whim. :O

That's a little bit less geeky. I've thought of taking fencing or kendo or something, myself. More because of Highlander than Star Wars, though.

The Force Unleashed at Celebration Europe:

“It’s not just about amazing visuals and Force powers – it all really makes sense within the Star Wars saga. As a matter of fact, once you put the apprentice into Star Wars, if you take him out, the original Star Wars never takes place. This guy paves the way for Han and Leia and Luke to do their thing. This guy makes some huge impacts and changes in the Star Wars universe — this really is the next chapter of Star Wars.”

“We don’t call him Darth Vader’s apprentice, we call him Darth Vader’s secret apprentice. We often get asked why the secret apprentice is fighting Imperials in the game footage if he’s Darth Vader’s apprentice – it’s because he’s a secret apprentice. Vader actually directs you as the secret apprentice to leave no witnesses behind. So there are times you’re in an area where stormtroopers are fighting whoever you’re after. If they spot you, you have to dispatch them since you’re not allowed to leave any witnesses. Vader is very firm about the fact that if you’re ever discovered, bad things are going to happen – the Emperor can’t know about you.”

Multiplayer: “We will have a multi-player component to the game. The game is all about kicking butt with the Force, and from Day 1 we knew that one of the most satisfying things to do is kick your friend’s butt with the Force so we wanted to make sure we delivered on that experience in multi-player. There will be an online component as well and it will support all the requirements of a system like Xbox Live.”

Sounds good. I figured the apprentice was killing Stormtroopers as a means of covering his tracks. That's kind of cool, actually. Having to work against both the Imperials and the Jedi to complete your goals makes the game more interesting.

I'm wondering what will be his (the apprentice) name. They said he'll have a name but since he's not actually a Sith, I dont think he'll be called Darth something.

I'm also curious about the multiplayer aspect of the game and if all multiplayer modes will be available both offline and online, because they make it seem (at least thats what I got) that the online stuff will be different.

It could be a fighting game setup, like Episode III's vs. mode. I'm hoping it's just straight-up multiplayer like the Jedi Knight series' online multiplayer mode. That was fun.

I hope its more than 1on1 VS. The only info we have on multiplayer is what I posted above and this (from a production diary at the official site):

"Strolling through the Unleashed workplace, you'll pass environment artists defining Kashyyyk or a TIE fighter construction facility as a level. The multiplayer designers lead teams defining what arenas and events await gamers playing across remote connections. They work with network engineers to make sure all those features are actually online and functional."

That's the most ridiculous reason I have ever heard... you realize how many Trooper's may be in a given area? How many tie fighters that would see a guy blowing things up, moving star destroyers, and slashing a red light saber in the air? How many imperial units there would be in a given area in some of the footage we got from the trailer??? You telling me not ONE imperial unit is going to get away and spread the news? I mean I know this is Star Wars we are talking about and I'm nit picking but common... that's a pretty lame excuse...

The game should have had a different premise... it should have been done campaign style... for the first campaign... you play as one character (maybe the secret apprentice)... then you play as a fleeing Jedi... then you play as Boba Fett or a high imperial soldier/general... the next campaign as a rebel fighter... going back and forth between three or four different characters and stories... being one guy and killing everyone in your path is fun and all... but to me its just Grand Theft Auto in a Universe far far away... now a lot of people like that... but they could've expanded the box WAY beyond just that.

We barely even know what the game is about, let alone how much depth there is to it. You may very well get to play as other characters throughout the game, or a good chunk of the game may have to deal with the fact that you're discovered. It's still pretty early in the development cycle to be judging the game as a whole and how much depth it may or may not have.

I was at the conference they gave @ Cel Eu.

They seemed VERY sure of themselves [in a good way] and what they said got the audience VERY excited.

I think they've got the incentive and the know how to make it work.

I really hope the game lets you make your lightsaber since out of all the SW games I have played not one has let me make my own saber.

Why I'm taking up sword fighting...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly8dD-w1itY

It's probably a horribly geeky reason to be taking up sword fighting but

"So be it... Jedi."

:o

I saw their second movie on that which was even better. It just begs the question how the **** two kids can make a better light saber battle than every single Star Wars light saber battle put together?

RVD2 had some amazing effects... at one point in the fight I thought they were gonna start jumping and flying like Jedi's... that's how good it was... I hope they do a third installment... and fly this time... they had a lot of help though... but you have to give them credit... from the effects to even the score... it was all fan made stuff

We dont know much about the story yet. Plus the apprentice doesnt go around telling Imperials "Hi, I'm Darth Vader's secret apprentice. Oh! Don't tell the Emperor...".

As far as the Imperials are concerned, he is just another Jedi, like all the other Jedi they've been ordered to kill. Some might find out who you really are and thats why Vader orders you to take out all witnesses.

As always, we'll have to actually play the game first in order to understand the story and see if/how it works...
