Did anyone else watch this?
It was amazingly well done, and I think anyone who has seen the film should watch it. It talks about the influences of the Star Wars story, and how it fits into Campbell's archetype of the Hero Story.

Tivo'd this and the Star Wars Tech shows. I'll have to watch them tomorrow.

It was pretty damn sweet. It even gave me a newfound respect for the prequels, even though the clunky diologue and overuse of CGI still bug me a bit.

What's this now?

All this confirms is that there was a good idea behind the prequels. It just wasn't executed well. Lucas should have had someone else direct like he did with Empire and Jedi.

It's on the History Channel, which is a actually a pretty fitting place for it, because it compares Star Wars to historical events.
I'm surprised you haven't seen commercials for it or seen ads on internet sites.

:wow:

ITS ON RIGHT NOW! Its talking about the Roman Empire/Podracing...did I miss much?

Thanks for the info. :woot:

I have my DVR set to record the next showing. I'll probably watch it tomorrow.

I did see the promo for it where it showed the similarities between the Jedi & Samurai. Which was kind of obvious.

It was pretty good, though some of the people they had come on and talk were kinda surprising. Well, mostly Newt came out of left field.

I love documentaries like this...showing professional scholars taking SW so seriously. LOVE IT. :woot:

I'm actually finding the special afterwards, Star Wars Tech, to be a lot more interesting. I love seeing how close we are to actually having tech that resembles the stuff in Star Wars. Like the fact that it would take a building full of machines in order to generate a beam similar to a lightsabers.

I recorded the Star Wars Legacy Revealed last night, I'll probably get around to watching it later this week. Watched a bit of Star Wars Tech, pretty funny how seriously they were discussing some of the stuff, like the Death Star and Darth Vader's outfit and General Grevious. Making all these assumptions about how these things would work that I'm sure Lucas never even thought about.

As someone previously mentioned, after watching this documentary, I now have a greater apprechiation for the PT. The scholars showed me, or at least made believe that TPM, AOTC and ROTS have a lot more substance behind them than I originally thought.

I especially loved their analysis of Anakin...very informative.

--P.S. how much you wanna bet even Lucas was :wow: when he watched this? LOL.

See, always saw that in the prequels- that there is ALOT more to them... one of the reasons I love the prequels is because of that and the Shakespearean tragedy elements of it (note how almost every Shakespearean tragedy centers around the theme of LOVE and how that can have an effect on someone).

Its on again here tonight at 7. (4:00 Eastern, I guess.)

It'd be 7pm EST. History Channel doesn't make every time zone different. They might for EST and CST but that'd be it.

Over here in the SF Bay Area its at 7pm though...coming up at 4 is some William Shatner/Star Trek documentary thingy.

This documentary was very good.
It made me appreciate/respect the prequels alot more. The comparisons made the PT mess so much better from a literary standpoint. George Lucas must've been like "Oh damn. They're right about the prequels. That's what I meant all along. I just never explained it yet."

It will be played 12 times this week. After that once every 3 years.
