Star Wars

the movie is what counts. you shouldn't be required to read the novelization or watch the spin-off cartoon or play the video game to know more detailed backstories or the like. the movie should stand on its own.

and on the movie Grievous was:

-a total pu$$y who kept running away
-totally inept in battle, what with not being able to defeat Obi-Wan with FOUR lightsabers against one
-a robot/cyborg/droid/whatever that kept COUGHING AND WHEEZING! it's f***ing absurd by nature, not to mention it just makes him look more pathetic. at least Vader's breathing problem sounded ominous and threatening. Grievous' just made him look weak.

really, how Grievous was supposed to be taken seriously, as a character AND a credible threat is beyond me.

Lucas' own Clone Wars series detailed that Grevious was injured by a severe Force-choke, while battling Mace Windu. His "voice box" (for lack of a better word) was apparently crushed, resulting in the raspy voice and bad cough. Lucas said that Grevious was meant to foreshadow what Anakin would eventually become.

They never realy explained Grivous's origin.

Grievous didn't need an origin. He's a throwaway villain, who's job is to look awesome and get his @$$ kicked in an anti-climactic way.

As did I. But he still wasn't important enough of a character to bother with delving into his origins. I'm sure there will be plenty of comics and graphic novels to explain his back story in the future, even if they're not official movie canon.

Watched quite a bit of ROTS while my sister in law was buying a TV (DLP, 1080p, 60in.). I really enjoyed it.

- Grievous was pretty cool as a secondary baddie. The point of that fight was to make Obi-Wan look great, nothing else. Don't care about Grievous' depth.

- Loved the fights involving Palpatine even if it was obvious that McDiarmid can't swordfight. It was still better than pasting Christopher Lee's head on a stunt double.

- I'll always believe that Mace could've killed the emperor if he'd chosen to.

- I love the overriding theme that Luke is clearly his father's son, but is not destined to repeat his mistakes. That idea of a son overcoming the weak (but strong, if that makes any sense) DNA that his old man gives him.

- Portman for Life!

not that it matters, 'cause the origin of his coughing is a VERY inconsequential detail, but like I said, the movie should stand on its own. I shouldn't have to watch a cartoon or read a novel to understand something.

instead of crap like that, Lucas should've spent some time explaining the mistery of how the hell Leia remembers Padmé. then again that would've made too much sense.

Greivous was badass in the toons... but the movie version was more cartoony and campy than the cartoons...

Grievous was second in line to Count Dooku, so he worked fine in that regard. He may not have beaten Obi-Wan in the saber fight but he kicked him around a good bit in the hand to hand fight.

grievous sucked . we should of had darth maul with robot legs

Darth Maul should have escaped his duel with Obi-Wan in The Phantom Menace and kept him as a recurring villain for the Prequels.

Lucas kept coming up with all these new bad guys and killing them off so quickly that they didn't have the time to make any sort of impact.

Yeah, not having Maul as a recurring villain was a big mistake IMO. A Maul vs. Anakin duel as the climax of Episode II would have been amazing! He should have escaped during Episode I instead of getting cut in half.

I completely agree with this post.

i wish the prequels would of all taken place during the clone wars and that they werent clone wars

Darth Maul should have been in 2 movies...

^ I made a thread about him being in two movies and alot thought the same thing. I think it would have been cool.

as much as killing Maul felt like a big waste, I would've much prefered to have Dooku appear in the council in TPM (thus seeing some of his relationship with Qui-Gon) and not having him actually be evil.

just someone with good intentions who, unlike the Jedi, believes the ends justifies the means. I mean, he had "father of the Rebellion" written all over him. what a waste. :(

Killing Maul put Obi-Wan over as a great warrior. I think havin Anakin kill Dooku met their fight that much better. I just wish that they had not had Dooku dominate Obi-Wan twice badly.

Killing Dooku was a "what-if Luke killed Vader" same setting (a throne-ish room with an epic battle in the background) & same Palpatine watching his hopefully soon-to-be aprentince.
