I enjoyed Arkham Asylum more than I did Arkham City. Even though I enjoyed the more open-world aspect, I missed the creepy atmosphere of the first game. I was genuinely creeped out while walking around the halls of the old Asylum, scared to turn the corners sometimes. They really made you feel like you were stuck on the island with all the inmates. While traversing the city was fun in both City and Origins, I really missed that atmosphere of the first game.

I still think AA is the best game in the series. Looking forward to AK.

Yeah I enjoyed Asylum a bit more than City and especially Origins. It could be the horror factor.

I think Arkham Origins is the best in the key areas, while AC has the best gameplay. We'll see how AK is.

Scarecrow being the main villain in AK should bring back some of that horror factor that AA had.

It was kind of a necessary sacrifice to do the big open-world thing with City. You couldn't really have the claustrophobic, haunted house feel with such a sprawling urban playground. But I agree in the sense that Asylum is easily the most focused of the series, the best narrative. But City has the best gameplay so its a toss-up for me.

I really liked Origins, though City probably has the better gameplay AND isn't nearly as buggy as Origins. The only thing I didn't like in Origins was the twist of it being Joker all along, from the marketing I was looking forward to the Black Mask being behind all of it. There are other villains besides the Joker that can serve as the main antagonist ya know, even the movies know that.

Arkahm Origins is the best of them. May have the most bugs but the story's the most interesting, I think, and it does the best job with the characters.

Seconded. Though most people seem to have no issues with any bugs on it now.

I get bored really quick with these Arkham games. Not sure what it is.

A close friend recommended me the Dark Knight Returns comic from the eighties. I read it just the other day, and with all the hype and love that people give it, I really didn’t care for it. It was just so boring to me.

Agreed. My favourite Batsuit/city/overall designs for the games, too. And I never experienced any bugs aside from the Batwing fast travel screen/cinematic stuttering.

I have no clue how that book could be considered boring but it is kind of a love it or hate it thing. I happen to love it.

I can understand why someone might have that initial impression with DKR. I first read it in my early 20's and I didn't care for it at all. Then I read it again a few years later and had a whole new appreciation for it, and it's now one of my favs.

I'm not trying to imply you need to be older to enjoy it. Just saying I had a similar experience where once upon a time I thought it was dull and uninteresting.

-Zero Year is the best origin story of the Joker.
-Mask of the Phantasm is still the best Batman film to date.
-Jim Carrey's performance as the Riddler is criminally underrated. In fact, after having watched the dark edit of Batman Forever, I really wish WB would allow Schumacher to make a director's cut of the film.

TDKR is a fine Batman story and a product of its time... although Frank Miller forever destroyed Superman's reputation among the fans... but I still can't stand the art.
And TDKSA is ****in atrocious on all accounts.

Yeah, there's only a few panels that I like in TDKR. Other than that, I'm not a fan of the art.

I love the TDKSA for its awfulness. It's The Room of comics, and hilariously awful.

I remember resenting Miller's influence on the franchise, especially when he got the All Star gig. But TDKR and YO are both great, even if Miller is still overrated.

As for Carrey's Riddler, I always assumed he was more underrated among comic fans than the GA.

Before or besides the Arkham games,Batman has had other underrated good-great games such as..

Lego Batman games
Batman Begins
Batman Vengence
The Adventures of Batman and Robin
Batman Forever
Batman Returns

Some challenge maps from Arkham City reminded me of and made me miss the Forever&Returns games because of the side-scrolling aspect

Miller was on another level in the 80's. The Batman stuff, his Daredevil run, Wolverine, Ronin. That he went crazy later on doesn't diminish that, nor does the industry's misunderstanding of it.
