Now for the second round, the top 25 will be voted on but you must register in order to vote. This is done to slow down all those cheating to get Colbert number one. The Hungarian Government was supposed to select the name from the top three, of a bridge that is taken longer to build than planned, but they don't have to.

"An American comedian has won the name-giving constest, ahead of ’*******’Zrinyi

The name-giving contest of the M0 Bridge became an international performance in the last couple of days. The most famous comic in the US, Stephen Colbert, on his show, has asked his viewers to vote for him. The part got onto the internet and Colbert has grabbed the first place on the last day. The ministry has closed the voting after 11am, 23 million people have clicked. From Tuesday afternoon, votes can be casted on the promoted 25 names – but only after registration.

János Kóka[minister of transportation] has released the genie from the bottle, when he announced on the 21st of july that the ministry is asking for votes for the name of the M0 bridge. Eventhough the initiative possibly was only a cover up on the fact that the bridge opening will be delayed by 8 months, the buzz of the internet vote got out to the world, as news agencies reported on Chuck Norris’s performance, and now it got world famous

Colbert asked them to vote for him
Because the most well-known US comedian, Stephen Colbert has dealt with the issue on his program and asked the viewers to vote for him. Colbert explained in great detail how to vote so they can make a gift to the Hungarian nation this way. Meanwhile, the viewers could merely laugh on the pronunciation of the Hungarian words and on the presentation of the losing Chuck Norris’ portrait. However on the next day’s show, when Colbert picked up the issue again saying that the difference is smaller, they could laugh on that he called the poor hero of Szigetvár an ‘*******’. His website also had vote-manipulating software.

Colbert’s request or the video of it got onto the net on 16. Aug. The American comedian got into the first place in two days, the number of his supporters increasing enormously. On Tuesday morning his tally has expanded by two hundred thousand in two minutes, partly because of the voting software."

I'm shocked, I honestly thought Chuck Norris would have a landslide victory.

It's because Colbert gave a detailed explanation on how to vote for him. It's another language afterall. He probably won't win the next round since you have to register. I hope he does though.

So amazing that he did this. He's got SOME power. Us heroes did good.

Man I really want him too win. He won't, but it will make for a helluva story.

"I'm shocked, I honestly thought Chuck Norris would have a landslide victory."

Why are you living in the Internet, circa one year ago? He's not winning because it's not funny anymore.

The commuists have tried to keep him down, but the heroes are keeping this dream alive. Liberals hate America and bridges named after heroes.

Silly child, Stephen Colbert is a TRUE American hero, not Chuck Norris.:)

As of 5pm EST.

Even with Colbert declaring "Mission Accomplished" and calling off the citizens of Colbert Nation from stop voting he's still dominating.

"Colbeagle" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

That's why Saginaw Spirit officials are asking producers of "The Colbert Report" to work with them on a possible Stephen Colbert-related nickname for the team's new mini-mascot.

In August, the Comedy Central show's host told his fans to vote on the Saginaw Spirit Web site to have the mini-mascot named after him.

His suggestion: Colbeagle, a spinoff of his other namesake, a baby eagle at the San Francisco Zoo named Steagle.

"He is, by far, winning in the contest," said Spirit Managing Partner Craig M. Goslin.

Fans have submitted 1,800 votes for Colbert-related names in the Saginaw Spirit's Web-based contest.

The smaller mascot will join the Spirit's Sammy Eagle at events and games.

The staff also is exploring possibilities of Colbert, who satirizes a right-wing newscaster in his half-hour newscast, appearing at TheDow Event Center in person or in a recorded sketch for Wendler Arena's video board.

"You will see more of the Spirit on Comedy Central," Goslin said. "We sent him a jersey with 'Colbert' on the back. It is supposed to make an appearance on the show within four or five days."

Saginaw Spirit staff will announce the official nickname for the smaller mascot at 7:11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at TheDow Event Center. The contest ended Aug. 31.

Resolved in Queen Creek: It’s Ellsworth Loop Road

If some Queen Creek residents had their choice in naming the Ellsworth Loop Road, the name might have reached celebrity status.

But the Queen Creek Town Council dashed the hopes of residents pulling for the name “Stephen Colbert Loop,” after a Comedy Central political comedian, when they voted to make Ellsworth Loop Road its official name.

“Stephen Colbert Loop” was suggested in 14 of the 30 e-mails the town received.

“I thought the name was of a local war hero, then I looked on the Web and realized my leg was being pulled,” said Dick Schaner, the town’s special transportation projects coordinator.

Walker Texas Ranger actor Chuck Norris also got a nod in the e-mailed recommendations, as did family names and others that just sounded nice, said Laura Catanese, with the town’s public works department, who sorted through the suggestions.

Other suggestions included Stardust Parkway, Equine Creek Byway, the 303 Loop, and a name merging Ellsworth and Sossaman: Ellsman Parkway.

Ellsworth Loop Road, which is part of the town’s transportation plan to route traffic around downtown, will move vehicles from Ellsworth Road to west of downtown on six lanes running from Chandler Heights Road to Queen Creek Road.

Council members hemmed and hawed a bit over whether keeping Ellsworth as part of the name would be confusing to people trying to get to an Ellsworth Road address, but it ultimately decided the road is a loop off of Ellsworth, making the name appropriate.

“We just needed something so we could issue permits because they all needed addresses,” Schaner said.

Construction is scheduled to begin in October and be completed by March 2008.

He could have quite a few things named after him once the show's run ends.

Steven Colbert won the naming contest! He had the Hungarian ambassador, who congradulated him, but the bridge may not named after him due to a technicality, they're saying the bridge needs to be named after a dead person.

Forget rules, Colbert won fair and square. But like he said, it's time to get one in the U.S.:cmad:

Yes.....I knew he would win it anyways. This is extroidinary.

Oh, and he won the mascot name, too? Rediculous. This man has so much power over internet geeks.

I honestly hope he wins. I could imagine what everyones face would be like if he does.:wow:

They're just saying that because they don't want to name the bridge after him. If that were the case, they wouldn't have put people like him, Chuck Norris and Jon Stewart on the final ballot.

Well it looks like the bridge will not be named after Colbert. It will be named after someone who didn't even end up in the second round of voting or even in the top 11 of the first round of voting.

It is now the Megyeri Bridge.

Seriously what was the point of putting up a vote if they were going to name it after a name that didn't even end up in the top 10?

Was it because of the "you have to be dead" thing? Why'd they even allow names of living people if they were gonna do that? :cmad:

As a hungarian, I feel this is the greatest thing ever.

Also, it was only a "let's see what people think" vote, not an official thing. They simply didn't understand the nature of the internet.

Really? You're really wondering why the didn't name the Bridge after Steven Colbert?

Really?

No I was saying what was the point of putting up a vote for the name if they ended up choosing a name that didn't even end up in the top 25. They could have given it to the third place guy, the one that Colbert called an a**hole. He's dead and Hungarian.
