EXCLUSIVE: Daniel Kaluuya, who’s starring in Jordan Peele’s Get Out which is scoring at the box office already since bowing last night in previews, has been set to star in Widows, the Steve McQueen-directed film from New Regency. Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Erivo are already aboard.The plot centers on the aftermath of four armed robbers killed during a failed heist, and their surviving widows join forces and resolve to pull off the raid themselves. McQueen and Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn penned the script which is based on the 1983 British miniseries. Emile Sherman and Iain Canning of See-Saw Films (Lion) are producing along with McQueen. Film4 is co-financing.Kaluuya is now shooting Marvel’s Black Panther, and will star in The Kitchen which he wrote and was workshopped at Sundance last year. Michael Fassbender is producing that one. He is repped by ICM Partners and Troika.
Liam Neeson is in talks to play Oscar winner Viola Davis husband in Steve McQueens heist thriller Widows.
Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Rodriguez, Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya, and Moonlight actor Andre Holland are also on board. Gone Girl screenwriter and novelist Gillian Flynn will write the script with McQueen.
Based on the 1983 British miniseries about a caper gone wrong, the story follows four armed robbers who are killed in a failed heist attempt, leaving their widows to finish the job.
Colin Farrell is in negotiations to join Viola Davis in Steve McQueen and New Regencys heist thriller Widows.
Farrell also recently signed on to star in Disneys Dumbo. Production on that movie, however, was pushed back one month, allowing Farrell to squeeze Widows into his schedule.
Details behind Farrells role are vague, aside from the fact that hell play a politician that finds himself mixed up in the widows plans.
Steve McQueen will finally return on November 16th, 2018 with Widows.

Yes it's more commercially based movie. The original TV show it's based on while not a great show per se was popular because of it's plot.
