Stop Carlos Mencia

Okay, so if you havent heard, theres a huge war going on against Carlos Mencia. Apparently, he is guilty of not only being a jackass, a poor comedian and simply ******ed, but much worse, he has made a career out of stealing other comedians' material - from up-and-coming stars all the way to Paul Mooney and George Lopez. Fed up with this, comedian Joe Rogan (NewsRadio, Fear Factor), called Mencia (whose real name is NED, and he's half german, half hondurian, not mexican whatsoever) out onstage during an open mike night recently. Now, one would think that Ned Mencia would be booted off of the roster at this particular comdey club, and the comic community would be thanking Joe Rogan for outing a liar and a thief.

But this is not the case.

Not only is Rogan BANNED from performing at that club (he's been doing his act there for 13 years), but his agent dropped him simply because that agency also covers Menica. Oh, and Menica was given Rogan's show scehdule athe the comedy club the weekend after the incident.

What the hell?

Why is the bad guy being blessed here?

Money.

Thats really it. Mencia has a "hit" tv show (which is full of stolen material) and is a common name - therefor he has alot of clout and can draw in a big crowd to a comdey club and cause an agency to loose alot of money if they were to drop him. SO, despite his theivery, Carlos is untouched, while the only person to do the right thing in this situation (Joe Rogan) is being hurt for it.

Show business is rough, and sometimes people get screwed. I just have two things to point out here.

1) 'Carlos' never claims to be Mexican. In fact, he's made jokes on how he's mistaken for a mexican by other people.

2) Even if he's stealing jokes from Rogan and being popular with those jokes, doesn't mean he's stealing fame from Rogan (who's not that funny anyway). Comedy is only half jokes, the other have is charisma, and apparentky Carlos has some. (Nevermind the fact that as a white guy, Rogan wouldn't ever be able to get away with some of the racist jokes Mencia tells and become popular, even if those jokes were originally his.)

As much as I can't stand him or his show, no petition, no matter how many people sign, is going to get his show off the air.

But there is something that will, and it's actually much easier:

Don't watch it.

Tell your family not to watch it, tell your friends not to watch, hell tell random strangers not to watch it.

if the show gets crap ratings from now on, it's not going to be kept around.

okay, petitions aren't going to do anything. mencia's show (sadly) gets great ratings for comedy central. chalk that up to stupid, american, white frat-boys.

secondly, not only will a petition do NOTHING, but an online petition will do less than nothing. period. they're not recognized by any sort of authority.

even though I got caught up reading about all the Rogan vs. Mencia thing a few weeks ago...I still have to say that this isn't our fight...let those two settle it out. Let the comedian community have thier fun...whats next? enough people sign the petition to get Mencia off the air...Comedy Central does it...then Mencia goes home and commits suicide?! Would that make everyone happy? I don't want his blood on my hands. I know thats really far fetched...but on a side note...if his show is bringing viewers, its bringing money, and the big wigs over at CC want to keep it that way.

Perhaps, but you'd think someone at a Southern College would know at least 1 or 2 of his fans, which I don't. And considering the amount of "I hate Carlos Mencia" groups on Facebook...I'd have to say his biggest draw is from somewhere else.

i don't know what college you go to, but i'm talking about state schools (cincinnati state, bowling green, ohio univeristy, etc.)...places that are typically "party schools".

Calling someone a "******" isn't pointing out mental shortcomings. Only coming up with a counterargument, something that seems to be beyond your mental capacity as I have never seen you do it, is. All you did was repeated try to tell posters they hadn't read the issue, and then call them "******ed" when they didn't agree with you. Much like your doing here.

I'm glad internet message board posting gives you that ability to be a tough guy, as I'm sure you miss that opportunity in real life. But next time, if you have something to say do it constructively as that WON'T get you banned.

i feel bad having this conversation in this thread, since it's supposed to about mencia and his crappy show, but oh well...

darthphere, as you might recall loved the issue, and praised it in several threads, so i'm not sure what you're refering to on that one. in fact, he posted a question in that thread, asking if the *****ing had stopped. you know. from people like you.

and as for dread; he hates everything.

not that it matters for anything, but i also got several PMs and even an e-mail (which was strange), commenting how it was a) unjust, and b) they agreed with my statements.

to be completely honest, i think you're generally a pretty good poster. but in the thread in question, it seems you've devolved into a pile of thoughtless goo. saying things like "i'm quitting all comics because of one specific issue from one specific company" is pretty dumb.

go back to making thoughtful posts, and we'll all be fine.

1.I've read up on Mencia. His father is Hondouran, his mother is Mexican. And yes his real name is Ned. Stage names are very common in show buisness.
2."Stealing" material from other comics is a time honoured tradition in comedy. In fact most won't tell other comics their routines before they preform it themselfs so someone can't steal it.
3.He's not racist. Or rather he's racist versus everything, and everyone. He's an equal opporunity hater.
4.Rogan is an egomanical arse. He though that he a guy who isn't that funny, and has 0 pull could take on a guy who has a hit show and can gaurentee box office/ratings and him not get the shaft? That's moronic and stupid.
