Hmmm, this was kinda tough..

I guess these movies weren't necessarily awesome, but they were a lot better than their trailers suggested...

From this year:

The Conspirator
The Debt
Straw Dogs
The Lincoln Lawyer
The Adjustment Bureau
Unknown
Real Steel
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Jane Eyre
Rango

The international trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes was great and actually made the movie look good.

The only one I can think of is "Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil". It gives away the entire plot and the character deaths. I'll have to come back later, though for anymore, because I can't think of any more at the moment.

I thought The Social Network looked really corny from the trailer but it was awesome. That one stands out most to me in recent memory. I agree about Rango and The Lincoln Lawyer too. They both looked kind of generic but I liked them a lot.

The Big Year

OMG, what a horrible and terribly misleading and generic and awful trailer to a decent, enjoyable, and warm movie.

So disappointing...no wonder it bombed :(

Based on the trailer and TV spots, I thought The Hangover looked terrible and not at all funny, but after my friends dragged me along to go see it, I laughed my ass off.

Also, I'm going to preemptively say The Dark Knight Rises. That teaser really was kind of lame.

Let me add Stardust and Serenity to the list. Paramount and Universal didn't even try on those movies... which were a lot better than the trailers made them out to be.

Bridemaids' trailer was awful but the movie was actually a lot funnier than I thought it would be.

And that new Christian Bale movie Flowers of War looks epic but I think whoever threw that trailer together has ADHD.

The Godfather - Remember the intro for Cheers? Now try to watch The Godfather in that style.

Star Trek: The Empire Strikes Back - It was just a bunch of artwork being shown.

Blade Runner - It was being advertised as an action movie, which it wasn't.

E.T. - Narrator talking about the movie during the whole trailer = awful idea

Fargo - Another spoilerific trailer

Payback - They made it look like it was going to be a comedy.

Cast Away - a.k.a. how to spoil the entire movie in 2 minutes

Star Trek: Generations - Totally misleading as they made it look like Captain Kirk was going to help out Picard & crew of the future Enterprise

Traitor - See Blade Runner

LOL all the Teaser was really was Batman and Alfred Talking and one line from the Joker and the backround turning into a bat logo. So yeah I agree it was lame.

This got laughed at in the theatre I saw it in.

I agree and a lot of horror movie trailers tend to fail in this way, they just give away too damn much. The biggest culprit of this is Quarantine which advertised the ****ing ending everywhere.

Live long, and may the Force be with you.

That was The Dark Knight's Teaser... and it was beautiful, in my opinion. The crumbling Bat Symbol and top-tier dialogue made it extraordinary.

My bad. That's what I get for posting at 3 in the morning.

Yes, yes.

Warrior was one of the year's best. Shame it got zero recognition. God help us if the Never Back Down sequel receives more attention.
I thought the trailer for it was fine---honestly, I don't think there's a lot of appeal to the general audience when it comes to MMA...

it didn't help that there weren't any heavy hitting names to sell the movie.
