Figured we might as well have a thread on the very thing that helped bring the show about.

Superman/Batman: Girl From Krypton was what got me back into comics, love the arc and it was my favorite version of Kara Zor-El.

I own somewhere around 200 Supergirl centered comics, dating back to Action #252, Action #253 and Action #285 as my earliest appearances. I have about 30 of her Adventure comics appearances from the 60s and 70s, including the first issue she headlined, and the first appearance of the hot pants and blouse costume. I have all ten issues of her first solo comic, and all 23 of her second. I have a signed copy of Crisis #7. I have the entire Pre-Flashpoint run of Kara too, as painful as some of those issues are to read.

My favorite runs on the titles are the Paul Kupperberg written and Carmine Infantino drawn (yes, THAT Carmine) Daring New Adventures of Supergirl (later just Supergirl) of the early 1980s.

And the Sterling Gates penned and Jamal Igle run on the 2005 book. Sterling was a big fan of Kupperberg's run, and the character in general, and it showed. The callbacks to the 1980s series were great, and Gates had a better grasp on the character than Loeb, Rucka, Kelly and Puckett who all preceded him on the title. It was great to finally see her back in hands that knew her. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful to Loeb for bringing back my Kara, but his run on her actual book was atrocious.

One thing always bugs me about this picture, and that's that the early Pre-Crisis Kara costume is off. She's in the front Left. That's obviously supposed to be the first appearance through 1960s Kara, but that Kara had a blue skirt.

I think I am one of the few that liked Kellys run on Supergirl. And I loved Churchill on the art apart from the micro skirt. But Powerboy was such a great original villain and I loved how Kelly had started up Karas friendship with Cassie/WG.

I din't hate Kelly's run, but it wasn't close to Gates's. I did like Kara and Cassie as friends (and also later Steph and Kara. I wish the three of them could have done stuff together...) Churchill's lack of anatomical correctness bugged me, especially the enlongated torso he liked to draw.

Abs are not meant to look like this:

Ian tried way to hard too be Michael Turner, and in my opinion it didn't work.

It's crazy that Supergirl will already be on her 8th volume whenever her title is brought up.

Nice one Supergirl, looking forward to the daily updates as I haven't seen many of these covers.

Seventh. 1972 series, 1982 series, 1994 mini-series, 1996 series, 2005 series, and 2011 series.

True dat true dat. Got my counting wrong.

Whenever they do bring her back, I hope they drop her take her in a interesting direction again. She felt so isolated from the rest of DC in the New52.

I'm hoping a theory I saw is true. Convergence had Crisis nullified, meaning that the original Kara never died, and that version of Kara was closest in both age and tone to what the show seems to be aiming at. There's a theory that the relaunched book will be a book featuring the original Kara again. Which would make me sob for days. I miss her so much. The Convergence: Adventures of Superman book wrecked my soul in good ways.

I wish the whole new 52 universe would go away. :o

I want the old universe and old versions of the characters back. :csad:

I'm really hoping that the money that they've spent on recoloring Daring New Adventures means they'll collect it too.

The last tpb in her new 52 run is really good

Might be, but I can't bring myself to read it, because of all the horrible things in that series that led up to it. The camel's back was broken when you made a character that through most of her existence had been representative of hope, love and compassion into an avatar of rage.

She was the opposite of that in that story, you should give it a try

Yeah, I quite enjoyed the Academy arc from Kate Perkins and Mike Johnson.

I'm quite surprised they just dropped Kara's book when they "rebooted" the 52.

you figure they'd want to keep the book going especially with the tv show coming out this fall.

but maybe they're planning on relaunching the book to coincide with the show.

DiDios teased something few months ago. The last creative team on the book (Perkins/Johnson) also hinted at something. We'll see as we're getting the November solicits next week.
