Supergirl Supergirl Season 1 Episode 18 - "Worlds Finest" MAJOR SPOILERS

loved the little tease of supergirl in flash last night during his trip through wormhole to getting to earth 2 in flash. Also great to hear the crossover is now filming and cant wait to see more on it.

Grant just posted on Instagram his own folding chair calling fancier than what he has on The Flash set...#upgrade.

And not to be outdone, it's Ali Adler's turn to have some I-Gram fun.

The most literal flashback ever typed.

But too cute not to show his face.

Ali, I didn't know you...never mind!

But wait...something's missing. Anybody see Flash's lightning bolt?

Nice little article about the crossover not being about ratings but more about...FUN!

So why are they crossing over? Use the old "Occam's razor" solution here: the simplest answer is usually the right one. These shows are crossing over because it's going to be fun. When you look at the initial announcement, it's very clearly right in there

These shows don't need your worry, they don't need your over-analysis, they just need you to have fun watching them. If one of them isn't your thing, hey, that's okay, maybe the crossover episode will be fun for you anyway. Maybe it'll make you give that other one a second chance. Maybe it'll give both a nice ratings bump. But that's not the point, or even the goal of the creators, it's about fun.

Why not have fun with it, too?

Glad the crossover wasn't about ratings because neither Supergirl or Flash are in danger of cancellation. Just wish the crossover was two hours instead of one.

No crossover is about ratings, because they usually only show up for a "blip"... they may have a slight increase in the ratings, but usually the show goes immediately back to its average, so yes, I would see this crossover as much more about fun, than ratings. The creators of this show are comic geeks, of course they would want something like this to happen. :)

Agreed but if the crossover event manages to draw in some new viewers (which is not entirely impossible) it's a win for both networks.

Edit: I've just realized that previous appearance of Flash ( John Wesley Shipp) on TV was on CBS network and by appearing in Supergirl, the new Flash (Grant Gustin) gets the opportunity to appear as Flash on the same network.

Should the episode begin from Kara's viewpoint and have Flash appear out of nowhere bursting into her world, or should we see Flash getting ready to travel through a breach and his own team giving him instructions or saying goodbye? Or maybe the Flash battling someone and then being pulled through a portal?

But if it starts with the Flash, then it seems like there would be too much set up before we get to Supergirl, and it would establish that the episode is more from Barry's point of view than Kara's.

But if there is none of that, then Flash would seem to just appear out of nowhere.

I think this is going to held Supergirl's ratings more than people think, particularly in the 18-34 demo.

Last episode of Flash hit a 1.5 in the 18-34, while Supergirl's last episode did a 1.0. Being on CBS, Supergirl naturally has a much older audience than shows on other networks might, and CW has by far the youngest audience of the big 5.

The Flash is also one of the most popular scripted shows on television amongst males, whereas Supergirl sometimes struggles to draw males (especially during sporting events).

I could see Supergirl popping a 2.0+ for the first time since week 2 during the crossover.

This was so cool. :D

:jd:

The picture has received over 6000 comments...COMMENTS on Instagram and is near 250K likes. This one is burning things up. For me, Melissa's warm adorable smile makes it all worth it. Grant is in for some fun times.

Now there will be three types of fans whom this crossover affects

  1. Fans of The Flash
  2. Fans of Supergirl
  3. Fans of Glee

The first two I put myself into, the 3rd I don't because I did not see the show in its original run and caught only a few episodes in syndication, including those with Melissa.

Expect fans of the first two shows to come in droves perhaps as first time watchers of either of them. As for the Glee fans, well, it's a chance for them to say "look, our Sebastian and Marley have moved on to save the world."

You know, all this crossover talk has me thinking about that little video segment for MTV Melissa did last November as she tried to answer Supergirl-related questions in 60 seconds while facing a distraction from puppies dressed as superheroes, creating one of the most adorable videos for Supergirl fans like us. Remember one of the questions?

Go to about 40 seconds in and you will see what I mean.

There is a fourth category.
Fans of all of the above.
Then, there is the X Factor.
People who do not watch any of these shows, but they will watch because the photos radiate a sense of FUN!

some cool bts pics of them filming. Def cant wait to hear the plot for the episode and all that. Plus yea the crossover is not really needed for ratings for either show. Flash been doing 3-4 mill this season, and supergirl been holding around 7-8 mill for awhile. So really if it was for ratings it would be for flash boost then supergirl.

If this was a ratings ploy, it would have aired during sweeps, this month or May.
Very glad it is being done for the fun of it.
Hoping for Easter eggs and callbacks.

Webhead I think you have touched on something

Saw these pics on Twitter and wondered...does STAR Labs have a branch in National City?

Melissa manages to take a great photo but Grant's is bleached out? I guess they used too much flash. :o

I don't think anyone, including the ratings sites are saying that there won't be a bump, they are simply stating that crossovers do not generally do more for a series than that initial bump...and usually go back to their averages quickly. Could we see a 2.0+ bump? hell yeah, and I hope we do that would be fantastic...I just don't think that "powers that be" are looking at this as something that will make a huge impact.

They also knew who the audience was going to be from the start...the fact that it was pushed in the "young girls" age groups so much showed that, and it was talked about in almost every interview.

The fact that CBS does have such heavy leaning towards the more "mature" audience, and I mean that in age.... :cwink: and it still consistently is pulling a good size audience says a lot. I think a second season would pull more of the younger age in....the fact that all of the "reality tv" shows are pulling less and less (even though they are still the juggernauts) shows that they are slowing down in popularity. There will come a time when "The Voice" will stop the 2x a year series and move to just 1x...etc, all of that will help "scripted television" ALSO, the L+3 and L+7 numbers have been talked about more this year than I have ever seen them talked about before....why? because as we move into a different age of watching TV those things are going to matter more and more.

The fact that Fox has renewed a series that was not doing all that well, because it did well within a demographic other than the 19-49 demo says a lot. It did well with women, and that is who is buying the products....MOMS do the grocery shopping for the most part and the powers that be understand that....

BUT, back to this series, oh hell yeah it can pull a 2.0+ with this crossover, and I will be very surprised if it doesn't.

Flash is a much, much healthier show than Supergirl. Supergirl has higher ratings but it's also on a much larger network.

Flash is by FAR the highest rated show on the CW. Supergirl is the #7 show overall on CBS and the #5 scripted show. Plus Flash airs on a network co-owned by the same company that owns Flash, DC Comics, and Warner Television. So when Flash does good on demand/digital sales/DVD/BluRay/streaming it actually helps the show's standing with its network. CBS does not own Supergirl, which means it only helps CBS when people watch it live or on CBS's own streaming service.

In terms of the health of comic book live action shows, it goes like this:
1. Walking Dead
2. The Flash

3. Arrow
4. Legends of Tomorrow
5. Agents of SHIELD (only this high due to being one season from syndication numbers)

6. Lucifer (will probably drop below Gotham and Supergirl by the end of season)
7. Supergirl
8. Gotham

9. iZombie (ratings are fine but syndication economics and CBS/Warner politics put it in danger)

10. Agent Carter

Supergirl needs Flash WAY more than Flash needs Supergirl, which is why Flash is appearing on her show rather than the other way around.

Another BTS pic from the crossover. Found on Twitter.

Not as cute as the initial, but it shows the two stars getting ready

In my opinion...TWD, flash, Supergirl, Lucifer, gotham, arrow, LOT, izombie, AC
In this week Supergirl ratings is 1.8, the best comic show ratings, lucifer 1.7, flash 1.6, arrow and LOT 0.9 and AC 0.8
