One of my favorite TV Shows of all time is Now and Again - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Now_and_Again - Sadly it was on air only for a single season.

When I saw Superman Returns, I loved it and I think it was partly because it was in the same vein as that series.

Later I found that both have a few things in common.

For example the characters:

Eric Close plays Michael Wiseman who's pretty much a Superhero. Like Superman, he can't get to be with the people he loves and although he does these amazing things, its still his family that is most important to him.

Dennis Haysbert's Dr. Theodore Morris is a lot like Jor-El - The voice of reason and the one who controls Michael and holds him back, yet guides him at the same time.

Even the look and feel of the two are alike, in the sense that both of them have very warm colors and a timeless feel.

Most striking of all was when Jason plays the piano.... that tune was signature to the series as Michael would play it in the show as well.

All in all, both have fantastical concepts, yet are grounded in a real and emotional world based on relationships. And I really love that.

This is just what I think.

Cheers,
Rohit

Now and Again :up::up:

although you're kinda pushing it with the similarties ;), Michael Wiseman and Superman are both super strong but that's just about it. Wiseman was an ex-fat guy transplanted into a new body (not his) and Kal-El's body has always been his. Wiseman also had a family is trying to get back to, Kal-El doesnt have his own family (well untill now anyway).

Dr. Morris is more like a combination of Jor-El, Ma and Pa Kent, and Perry White. he alternates between inspiring Wiseman and berates him.

not much similarities other than being great stories :D

You're right.

I didn't really mean to say that they are very similar in terms of details. But it's just that I get the same kind of vibe from both of them.

I was very surprised when I first watched an episode of Now and Again, because from the ads, I thought it was a run-of-the-mill kind of sci-fi show.

But it wasn't. It had heart, which is why I loved it.

The same applies for Superman Returns. It wasn't "Wham! Bam! Thank you, Ma'am!", like most people demand these days. It had so much heart and emotion that it really surprised me... in a good way.

for all my criticisms of the film SR is a good movie. its jus that leaving the movie theater it does leave you a little hollow, a little underwhelmed. i think with the way the movie ended it was designed to leave you a little weepy but what if youy didnt weep? what it did was leave you a depressed and confused.

I can see where you're coming from with the comparisons. Eric Close is a good actor and so is Dennis Haysbert. That show was really ahead of its time.

I loved Now and Again. I didn't notice the similarities between it and SR, but now that you mention it, they do have some.
