Anyways it is likely that the 2h51 will be kept for the dvd as that is too long for the movies. Don't forget that that type of length means less showing at the theaters which means less revenues.
Of course, taking what I said to an extreme you could then say a 1h30 movie should do better then a 2h15 movie, however there is a trade off and an equilibrium to be reached.
