Superman Returns Superman Returns Title Sequence

I think I read somewhere that they're going to use the innovative, award-winning, yadda yadda "laser" title sequence, but I wanna know if R/GA is doing it again? I've asked this on a bunch of boards but haven't gotten a response yet.

I know that wouldn't really matter WHO worked on it, but I personally hope it is them and that it would be apropos, since it was that project that pretty much launched that studio into superstardom.

I dunno......I've gotten so tired of how some title sequences try to be "cool". I mean, I think the only title sequence to kick ass was Spidey 2, with the Alex "the Great" Ross' artwork.....that was awesome.

I loved how Batman Begins had no title sequence.....that was soooooo ****in gangsta....

I remember reading somewhere the SR one was going to be Kal Els ship flying past our solar system and finally ending up on earth. Sounds pretty cool to me, as long as it doesn't feel like Star Trek too much.

Well, some title sequences are long and overdone, but then again, if done correctly, can establish a great mood. BB was good in that it was very efficient, almost cold with a lack of one, which set the somber mood and threw you right into the narrative.

Spidey on the other hand, as well as Superman, needs that larger-than-life comic booky title sequence to set the upbeat and fantastical tone. Superman more importantly needs it because it's part of our memories of the first ones, and helps us get in that particular mood. Plus the fact that the words are "flying" at us helps with the parallel powers of Superman.

Fight Club also had a kick ass title sequence that set the mood nicely.

I will probably get shot for this... but i HATE the title sequence in the original films. It is WAY too long and is basically just the ending credits except they fly at you. The music is awesome and all, but when you are watching titles fly at you for what feels like 10 minutes, it starts to get old. I think about like.... 5, 10, maybe 12 names like that is cool... but after that it's just extremely repetitive.

In SR, you have the option not to watch the names (they fly by so fast you can hardly read them anyway), but to look past the names instead and see some of the wonders of the "28 known galaxies" until you arrive on Earth.

do they at least pause before they recede back into the starfield, or is it like Superman II which was a little cheesier?

If you watch STM, the first couple of texts come from the back and zoom INTO the camera. Then the cast credits go backwards receding into the starfield.

In SR, ALL the texts come from the stars and zoom into and past the camera (the camera literally flies through the blue tunnels of letters). Only the Brandon's and Kate's names are in red because the camera is still zooming through the "Superman Returns" blue letters and blue on blue wouldn't look good.

They don't pause, like in the original they are outlines that stretch in 3D when they come close to the camera. But my impression is that they are moving alot faster in SR than in STM.

UPDATE
This thread is a little old i know but it's the most appropriate to post this i think.:cwink:

Main Title Sequence - Superman Returns

Render Rocket fueled Prologue's project with more than 100 processors over a 6 week production schedule. That's over 70,000 render hours used to bring this unique sequence to life. The planets and galactic environments were created in Maya 6.5 and rendered with a combination of Mental Ray and Maya renderers. Prologue used extensive particle and fluid effects that were dynamically cached using Render Rocket's "Mission Control" web application. This facilitated the wrangling of large project files and helped turn render jobs around very quickly.

Company Overview

Prologue is a Los Angeles, CA-based design company founded by award-winning director Kyle Cooper. Prologue specializes in creating and directing film openings, advertising campaigns, corporate and entertainment branding projects, visual effects sequences, feature film marketing campaigns and openings for video games.
