Most movies as of late just bring up the studio logo, maybe a quick scene, and then the movie's title. Then you have the flicks that have an extended opening credit sequence consisting of the cast, crew, etc. I prefer the latter, mostly because it hypes you up for the movie moreso as opposed to just jumping right into the action, but that's just me. I remember the last really good one was Mars Attacks!, complete with the Elfman Stalin-esque march theme. Which do you prefer?

I liked Batman '89's opening credits sequence, I didn't mind at all waiting for it. It was awesome that whole tour-like intro to the Bat-Symbol. Caught my eye immediately:up:

I think with the opening credits, a sequence in between it can be great, but the opening sequence after it can work as well, I think it's more how well it's implimented.

Indiana Jones and the last crusade had a pretty big flashback after the credits sequence before actully going into the movies time frame, what was interesting, it's about ten minutes long, when it does cut into present time, it's like the blink of an eye, that was cool, I liked that.

Batman Returns starts starts the WB title then goes into the intro scene, afterwards it then goes into showing Credits while the the child travels down the sewers, this worked great as well, mostly because of Danny Elfman, if there was no music there or not very good music, it would just be anoying or mundane.

I love the opening credit sequence, as opposed to just showing the title. One of the recent ones that I love is from Casino Royale:

Depends on how well it's done - it can work both ways.

The Spider-Man trilogy openings were really long IMO

I thought they were the coolness.

Quick and easy ones are cool, too. I like how Fantastic Four and Iron Man get straight to the point with just the titles.

I love the beginning of 'The Departed'.

The opening wasn't a cast list or anything...the movie just started.
The title of the movie didn't show until 15 minutes IN to the movie.

Also I love this one.

I loved Batman Begins opening.

I've always been a fan of opening credits. Especially if there's some good music. Some people here talked about Iron Man just going straight to it. Well, the score to that movie was okay-ish. NOW if you have something like John Williams' Superman theme then an opening credits kicks ass.

It seems that the only movies that still have opening credits are Tim Burton films and the occasional comic book/superhero movie.

Sometimes I do enjoy a good opening sequence. Some go with the story..

For example "The Kingdom" It was part of the story and got you really excited for the movie.

But a example of "Oh just start the movie already" is "The Jackal" The crazy fonts and horrible music compiled with crappy montages didn't sell it for me.

^yep... just crazy bass and bats forming a logo then bam! movie starts... way to go nolan

Total Recall ..... has THE best opening credits music! ....... sometimes I pop the DVD in just to watch that!

Eh, I agree some good music can be enough to keep you interested and pumped, but there's a point where it gets ridicculious and S:TM was dangeriously close to that and II did cartwheels pass that point. Returns was more bearable in that sense, because at least there was more happening then words appearing on the screen.

Totally agree--the base still sometimes echos in my head. :woot:

The opening titles completely depend on the pacing on how quickly the director wishes to throw you into the film.

longer ones generally mean it takes longer for the story to untold while quicker ones mean it's all going to kick off relatively soon...

music (or the lack of) is also very important to set that scene

A huge long awesome opening credits sequence are always my favourite, most notably Batman '89 & most of the James Bond ones, loved Casino Royale's, Die Another Day, & Goldeneye's are the best of the Bond buch, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's had a James Bond inspired one which was awesome.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's is really cool.. great and simple artwork throughout it.

I don't mind opening credits as long as you have something interesting to watch or look at.

There have been so many movies that have the opening credits over some plain single colored background(usually black) that make me want to leave the theatre or turn off the DVD before the damn film actually starts.

Personally in this day and age I think they should start making the jump to have the credits only at the end of the film.

I did always find it kind of lame that you have to sit through the credits even though they are going to be played at the end as well.

I prefer an opening sequence with all of the primary credits, as opposed to putting them at the end, but I can live with the latter if it works.

Just don't try and do both in the same movie, a la the FF extended cut :hehe: .

I liked the Spider-Man openings.
Infact, with each new movie I actually looked forward to seeing what the new opening for each new Spidey flick would look like. :)
