Hopefully a Volume 2 is in the works b/c I didn't see "Volume 1" marked on this set. And even though the tracklisting looks wonderful it's still missing some great scores e.g."Speed Demons" and that two part Lobo ep.,the Live Wire and Parasite ep. etc. With that said this set has the three part "Last Son Of Krypton" and "World's Finest" scores, as well as "In Brightest Day", the scores for the two part Supergirl ep, and the scores to all the eps featuring Darkseid as well.

:hubba

Well this answers my question about future volumes of the S:TAS scores.

LLLR posted this comment on the Film Score Monthly forums.

Glad you guys are digging these releases.

If all goes well for BOTH releases additional volume(s) will follow...

More info on the release...

Warner Bros and La-La Land Records are proud to announce the world premiere release to one of the world’s finest soundtrack’s ever written for an Animated TV series – SUPERMAN! In the mid 90’s, as a companion piece to the wildly successful BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES, producers Bruce Timm, Alan Burnett and Paul Dini brought to life another DC Comic’s favorite SUPERMAN. Faster than speeding bullet, renowned composer Shirley Walker and her composing family hoped aboard the man of steel’s cape and gave a musical identity to Metropolis’ favorite boy-scout. This 4 cd set includes:

* More than 5 hours of music on 4 CDs.

* 20 full episode scores, including the epic 3-part Batman crossover "World's Finest”.

* Includes the Emmy-nominated score to "Little Girl Lost" by Lolita Ritmanis.

* Features Shirley Walker's original, unused ending for the series finale, "Legacy."

Big, bold orchestral scores were one of the highlights of this magnificent animated series. Liner notes by John Takis take the listener inside the great city of Metropolis with exclusive interviews with some of the composers. Art direction by Jim Titus is nothing short of SUPER!

As an added bonus Michael, Lolita and Kris have agreed to sign the first 300 units purchased directly through the La-La Land website at no extra charge. Quantities are limited and you are not guaranteed a signed copy.

Really want the Superman puts out fire bit from Apakolips Now Part 2....absolutely loved the score as he flies out of the water, combined with the imagery...it was just awesome.

And I loved the score for GL on the show. Very well done.

I will have to buy this.

It's a pity "Speed Demons" didn't make the cut on this volume, but hopefully it will on Vol.2.

Save DC Comics Animated Music!

I'm genuinely surprised Superman TAS was a disappointment. The music is every bit as good as anything else you could find on television (and a helluva lot better than anything you could find in current comic book films).

This is very weird news to my ears / eyes.

La La Land/MV Questions thread

La La Land Records said:
Regarding DC animated titles, if you can me find 1,000 customers who would be willing to purchase Justice League Unlimited Superman vol 2 and Teen Titans we would be more than happy to release those soundtracks. As for future Batman titles, New Batman Adventures and The Adventures of Batman and Robin are in the works. Batman SubZero is also in the works. Batman Beyond, including Revenge of the Joker, might be coming but we are not 100% convinced there is enough of a market for it.

Save DC Comics Animated Music!

ryanpaquet said:
The only thought I had about the sets was that the Batman soundtracks initial release was a 2CD set, making it more accessible price wise, also giving fans a chance to sink their teeth into the music and build up a desire for more.

Not sure if Superman and JL would have done better starting as 2 CD sets and then jumping into larger sets.

I know that Superman TAS has nowhere near the fan base compared to Batman TAS though.

La La Land Records said:
There is a law of diminishing returns. Volume one will always do better than Volume 2 and so on and so forth. Doing TV shows is massively expensive. You want to make back as much money as you possibly can with the first volume so you might as well try to release something a bit more elaborate. Batman volume 1 2 cd set was an interesting case because that's all that warner would allow us to do at the time. It took us years to to convince them to let us produce additional volumes due to changes in the legal department.

You people still do not get it. Batman the Animated Series is beloved by many more people than Superman or Justice League or Teen Titans. Batman the character outsells every other comic book character, with maybe the exception of Spider-Man, 2 to 1 in any product line.

The only possible way of doing another volume of Superman is to release it at a very limited edition of let's say 500 units and charge a premium for a multiple disc set that would complete the series but even then that's risky.

La La Land/MV Questions thread

La La Land Records said:
We are done with DCAU (new stuff). Justice League Dark was the final one. They simply don't sell.

JB Fan said:
Yes, but you also said that "Batman"-related CDs sells bit better among other DCAU releases, so that's why I asked about Bats & Harley possibility :yay:

Thanks in any case!!!

La La Land Records said:
Bat related except the new stuff. So Classic animated Batman, as opposed to classic Superman or Justice League. Sorry, I should be more specific.

So, just to clarify we will NOT be releasing any more NEW DC Animated soundtracks of their direct to video line.

We do plan on releasing New Adventures of Batman and Robin and The New Batman Adventures. Sub Zero is also slated. Batman Beyond is a possibility.

Canceled projects:

Justice League Unlimited
Teen Titans
The Batman
League of Superheroes
Beware the Batman

I'm on the fence with Superman TAS. I love the series and adore the music. If we do it, and can make some kind of deal with WB, it might be a box set featuring the rest of the scores priced high and limited to 500 to 1000 units. Hell, may even do a pre order thing to see if its worth it.

Up, Up and AWAY....goes Superman The Animated Series

We are down to the final 15 units of this fantastic 4 cd set. We will not be pressing up any more copies so now is your chance to grab the animated man of steel before he goes out of print faster than a speeding bullet!

After 4 years, multiple sales and discounts we will have sold 1500 units of this magnificent set. That's half the run.

Btw, 10 more left.

We have a tentative vol 2 box set in the wings that would be either 6 or 7 discs that would complete the series for just die hard fans. Ultra limited edition release (probably 500 units) with a possible cost of $150. Still working out the numbers and seeing if its possible. Toying with pre order concept.

Thoughts?

Interesting, but that price tag might be a deal-breaker for some fans.
