World Superman: The Ultimate Collector's Edition

Is there anyway to identify the corrected versions in the store?
From what I read here on the boards, the disc that's in the Christopher Reeve set and the ones sold individualy are the correct ones, but all the STM disc 1's have the wrong audio.

From Digital Bits today:

Warner Home Video has informed us that the fixed discs for the Superman: The Movie 4-disc set and the 14-disc Superman Ultimate box set are about to arrive from the replicator, which means they should START shipping out to those of you who called their 800 number (800-553-6937) over the next few days. Obviously, you'll need to be patient what with the Christmas mail slow down and the fact that TONS of people have been (and will be) calling the 800 number... but it looks like the discs are at least finally ready to ship. That also means that you should start seeing the fixed Superman 4-disc set and 14-disc Ultimate box in stores by mid-January. They'll have new SKU numbers to identify them, and we'll let you know what they are as soon as Warner informs us.

That's great to know. I'm still waiting on the envelope to send back the defective discs & there is no telling when I will get it. I will probably have to call the 800 number again.

What exactly is the problem with the first disc of SUperman the Movie?

I got into my Reeve Collection today for the first time and I'm not sure what I am supposed to be experienceing that is an error. COuld someone get detailed with me? If I need to call and get a new one, I want to know.

STM Disc 1 is missing the original 1978 stereo audio track. When you go to choose your sound options you'll find that it is missing, not a big deal at all by any means. Most people coould care less about it

Thank you so much, I was wondering what I was 'missing.' I certainly didn't notice anything when I started watching it. Now I know. Thanks.

Some people may think the original sound is'nt important but it truley is. When they remastered Supes for the 2000 dvd they really messed with the sound by amplifying music and actually changing/adding sound effects from everything to the opening credits to Superman flying... LAME!!! No self respecting fan should be without the original mix... period

Its all relative. I honestly could care less about the "original 1978 track".

So long as I got the movies, i'm all good.

I guess you prefere Jackson's over-hyped King Kong than the 1933 masterpiece, eh?

theres a big difference in a simple audio track from the 70's and a crappy remake released in a sea of other more crappy remakes

it had been a while since I had heard the original soundtrack on superman the movie.. and I did like the new 5.1 soundtrack that they did in 2000.

I rather listen to the original one.. which I have now. its sounds pretty good.

The "original 1978 track", in quotes as you insist, is leaps and bounds far superior than the artificially spruced-up 5.1 version.

EXACTLY.

Just because I don't care that much about the "original" audio of the film doesn't make me any less of a fan than anyone else. I care about the important stuff...so long as the movie's intact, i'm all good.

However, it would also be unfair to trivialize the people who feel the 1978 audio track to be a rather poignant issue. Such a matter, to some, seems rather important because the "original" audio plays a rather large role in giving S:TM the "epic" quality they enjoy.

If you find your enjoyment all the same without the original audio track, more power to you!

Hey I just got the collector's edition a couple days ago from Circuit city and my disc 3 is the correct one, how is this possible? I'm not sure about my STM Disc 1, would the 1978 stereo audio track be in the language section?

They have already started releasing corrected sets.

Oh ok cool. Would the 1978 stereo audio track be in the special features or would it be in the language section on disc one ? I can't seem to find it.

I've just received my corrected versions of STM and S3 even though I had sent only S3 back.

on the language section it would be the 2.0 audio.......I think.

Here's a quickie, is the Superman III digitally remastered? Or is it the same transfer as the bare bones disc?

If its the same, i'll prolly just keep it.

It's a little spruced up, the reds on Supes' cape look brighter.

I got my replacements yesterday. What's odd is I only sent in the "Superman III" disc but I got both the corrected version of that AND of disc 1. I'm not complaining, I was just surprised. The audio issue didn't bug me that much to send it in for replacement but I took the old one out of the box and put the corrected one in along with Supes III so now my set is complete.

How many only sent in one disc but ended up getting both as well?

I got the set and have been pleased with all the great info on it. Superman IV was on the right track, the only thing is with a low budget and a rushed production we got a half heart attempt. The Donner Cut was amazing and the documentaries on all the discs were great. I'm glad that Singer used Donner's vision to make SR because I would have hated to see Superman as Jon Peters saw it. I have a feeling that Singer is gonna listen to us and give us what we want. Thanks to WB for this amazing set.

Allow me to ***** a little and share my disappointment with how this thing has been handled. I ordered the boxset early on the morning of it's release (11/28). This is after calling in to WHV and verifying that they had the item in stock (otherwise I'd just go to the store and pick it up). The combination of the online discount around ($62 after S/H) and my own legendary frugal nature was just to good to pass up. Bad move.

After 7-10 business days, no dice. By this time, I had long knew about the issues with the replacement disks, so I just assumed they were in the process of replacing the discs and gathering corrected editions. I called back in late December to see if this was the case and was told as much. Around the middle of January, I still haven't received jack and call again only to find out that somehow, my order has been canceled. I hang up on one incompetent WB rep and raise hell with another to get the order re-submitted and at an even better discount price than before. It's sounding good (). Not really (:down).

I call back after two weeks and am told that the set was just shipped out that day. Sounds good. Call back in today, just for ****s and giggles and low and behold, now the order has only been processed and is 'waiting for shipment'. The growing sounds of a man rapidly losing patience become clear to the phone rep and she gives me the lowdown: the damn boxsets aren't available for ordering (even though I just ordered one about 3 weeks ago) and that someone should have told my happy ass this back in December. I knew they had taken the things off the retail market a long time ago, but I figure good ol' WB would have earlier access to the corrected sets (or at least the old defective ones, so that I could send in for the replacements like any other good little fanboy). Barring any of this, I at least assumed I'd be able to get a clear line of communication about what in the blue hell was going on with my alleged order. In the memorable words of Spacey's Luthor ...WRONG!

The short side of the story is that over 2 months after the fact, no Supes boxset for the J-Man. At the end of the day, I'd should have just taken my rear end to Best Buy and paid the extra $15 or so, but no point in griping about hindsight. By the time I was able to get to the store, they were likely out of them anyway from what I've heard and I have been on the web still. It's all good. I wouldn't even buy it at the store now, unless the price was good. So I'll be waiting for WB to get their act together and re-release this thing and when they do I'll be back on the phone raising even more hell to get an even greater reduced price. They really screwed the pooch on this one. Unfortunately, it seems that my name is Rover or Fido. It's nonsense like this that enables me to feel guilt-free about the piracy I'm getting ready to engage in. Well that, and the complete lack of a conscience I have in the first place. :super:

Bastards. :cmad:
