No, not THAT anatomy. Get your mind out of the gutter, people. :)
This would be a poll if I knew how to make one. The question is:

Do you think we will learn something of Kal-El's anatomy from his stint in the hospital? Possibly a tongue-in-cheek homage to Wolverine's x-rays from X-Men, except a bunch of doctors examining alien anatomy, trying to figure it out?

If so, what would you like to see?

On one hand it is a big mess to get in to, and would be simpler to leave unexplained, but seeing something radically different from human anatomy might help general audiences realize just how different Superman is, no matter what he looks like on the outside.

Im not sure singer is gonna be willing to explore this or not. Basically i always want to compare kryptonians to this: they are actually human beings but thousands of years ahead of us. But that doesnt really explain that SUperman is a gigantic solar powered battery. Why does the yellow sun charge his body like it does?

Science of Superman book covers that, I'd recommened it.

Amazon? Barnes and Noble? I would assume? Sounds interesting

Hmm, this brings up an interesting question, can Superman's skin be penatrated by x-rays???

Can he see through himself even?

That would be cool, huh? And weird at the same time...Imagine...being able to see inside yourself? But i think his skin is so dense that would act like lead to his X-ray vision...

ive never understood clearly about SM source of power... Is it solar, or radiation? I've always wnted to believe that the radiation changes his genetic code somehow. Since the suns rays are constantly beating on the earth (even when it's night time, or cloudy, whatever). I've never liked Kevin's Smith script for the reason of blocking out the sun to stop SM.

So which is it... Radation or solar power?

solar power. Superman's body absorbs the energy given off by the sun at thousands of levels higher than humans do. That is what causes him to gain his powers. Smith used that in his script because it's accurate to the character.

Hell, back in 93/94 in the Death of Superman storyline, Superman's death is explained as him expending more solar energy than his body was obsorbing, thus his fight with Doomsday exhausted every energy reserve his body had. In addition, while they didn't know any better obviously, the people of Metropolis made it worse. They took his body out of direct sunlight. Had he stayed buried, he would have actually stayed dead.

As far as I'm concerned, so long as they keep it clear that Superman's powers are derived from the sun, I'm happy. No need to get the X-Ray ala Wolverine in X-Men.

Could you give us the gist of it?

I have 2 hours until X3, why not. Superman's powers derives from a number of factors, the main one being his cellular structure's natural ability to convert solar radiation into usable energy. Kryptonians most likely evolved harnessing there red dawrf sun as a food source, like a plant( this was partly because krypton's atmosphere and closeness to sun). This would acount for superman's photosynthetic cells. It's noteworthy to mention, atleast with byrne's superman( which the author is probably using), kryptonians were genetically modified to be pretty much perfect. So superman would naturally have a long life-span and super immune system. krypton's atmostphere and geologic make-up also affected it's life another way, because of it close proximity to the sun( since it had to be for red-dwarfs are weak and habitable zone is closer), it made kryptonians evolve to have stronger eyes and hearing. Anyhoo, another thing that helps with superman being SUPER, is the gravity. Though a very small part, kal-el's planet had a much higher gravity which aids to his strength, speed, etc.

Upon arriving to this solar system, kal-el's body soaked in our sun's rays because of it's type. Sol is a G2 type sun, in simplest terms more powerful than a red-dwarf. Thus, the rays strength and intensity amplified superman's body by hundreds, if not thousands of times. Not only multiplying his strength and speed, but visual and hearing capabilties. Lastly is his bio-electric field which isn't psuedoscience, we humans because of our chemical/electrical connections in our bodies, gives off the very faint( almost non-existant) EM field around our bodies. But for supeman it's different, since his body strengthened so much by our sun, his internal organs were as well which makes his bio-field incredibly powerful.

He has a 3 fold defense, first is his bio-field, then thick, dense skin and finally regeneration which is the results of his natural kryptonian body, our sun and krypton's higher gravity.

If anything sounds off it's probably because I explained it incorrectly but that's pretty much the "gist" of it.

Thought I would add a little....The flight issue. I believe the book touches on this power as the one that takes the most "imagination". There really isnt any sort of real explaination for his ability to fly. However the author says that Superman would have to have the ability to manipulate gravity in some sense. If I remember correctly he says that Superman would probably need another organ that does this. What kind and how it actually works were kinda of a mystery even to a scientific explaination. However, I think he says that it would most likely have to be located in Superman's brain because of the way he pretty much "wills" himself into the air and controled flight.

I thought the idea behind his sight was interesting too. Explaining that it really has to do with a much more complex eye structure. And that Superman doesnt really have "x-ray" vission but instead can see in almost if not all of the spectrums. His brain in conjunction with his eyes essentially processes all of these factors as well as other senses such as hearing to more or less "see" through objects. So I would imagine he could see through himself. The lead flaw is something I cant remember. I'm pretty sure they touch on it but I'm drawing a blank right now.

Your post is great, anyone cuold explain all this so clear using less than 500 words.

I totally forgot about his flying, the author said it probably had to do with his bio-aura and one of his organs having superconductivity. Your right though, he wasn't clear on the explanation but that makes sense since it's really the most paranormal of his powers.

Yeah I forgot about the bio-aura part. I really need to re-read it. It really is a good read.

For those that have not read it though be warned it does get a little heavy into physics and biology. But nothing more than a high school physics class though.

What's up with the lead thing anyway?
Just scanning through the book....It says that the way he would actually have an "x-ray" vision would be not to emit xrays like a machine his eyes would actually gather natural occuring xrays. And that with he must deal with the natural characteristics of whatever EM radiation he sees. Hense the lead would still be opaque to his vision. EM waves can be refracted and reflected become distorted etc. He would have to take this into account and he would be subject to optical illusions that humans would never see. He would have to be aware of this to see normally.

Keep in mind this is sort of a half-a**ed explaination on my part. lol It goes it to much greater detail about exactly how it would all work.

The flight part gets into some heavy detail about theoretical physics. Specifically Superstring theory. So keep in mind this isnt even the tip of the iceberg. I would highly recomend you read the book because giving the "gist" on his flight ability isnt really possible. lol

My theory about the enitire Kryptonian race is that they were humans, taken from Earth by aliens thousands or tens or hundreds of thousands of years ago to Krypton and genetetically modified in order to be able to survive on it. For reasons unknown. Pretty far from canon but its my own personal explanation for how they can basically have human biology and even be compatible with us, reproductively.

Also, I'd describe some of his abilities as physical but others as "psionic". Again, not canon, but I'd say X-Ray vision was something more like ESP.

Isn't there something in the books now about how he emits an anti-gravitro in flight, also explaining why objects are actually lighter for him to cary in flight then on the ground, and thus also why he is still able to fly when carrying something heavy as his flight capabilities would otherwise have t be doing the lifting of himself and the object, nut just his strength.

More than likely its fragments of Krptonite stuck in his back perhaps from the stabbing.

The author of science of superman mentions that superman could be subconsciouslly manipulating gravitons. He also said that he may be extending his bio-field around objects which explains why objects are lighter in flight and how the people he carries aren't burnt to a crisp during flight.

He pretty much describes the post-crisis byrne superman. I guess you could label the explanations as psuedo-scientific but nonetheless, it cool to know that superman "could" exist.

No he couldn't. I did the math and physics. Even if he absorbed 100% of the solar radiation impinging on him and converted 100% of it into energy there's not enough energy for him to perform his super feats.
