Survey: Why Do Fans Hate the Fantastic Four Films

Reed has always been an inept, bankrupt idiot. Back when Stan Lee was writing Reed lost all of his money investing in the stock market and the team was forced to sell their equipment.

Yet, i dont ever recall him sucking up to Doom for money.

Go figure.
And Reed has NEVER been an idiot. (except in the movie)

The first movie (the "official", big budgeted one from 2005, not the unreleased, Roger Corman version from 1994) wasn't all that well received critically, while the second one did even worst box office business. Now, according to Chris Evans (Johnny Storm) at least, the chances of their being a third one are very, very slim.

Several obvious reasons first come to mind:
*The handling of Doctor Doom.

*The casting of Jessica Alba as Sue Storm.

*Making Galactus a gigantic storm cloud.

*Having Tim Story (who had mostly, a comedic background with "Barbershop" and "Taxi") direct.

*Battle sequences being too short.

Here's some further comments from fans:
What do you hate about both Fantastic Four movies?

Both 2 movies felt like made-for-tv movies.

The one thing I think both films did right was how they handled the cast, they made sure it was about all four members of the team rather than just focus on one (like the X-men movies kind of did with the grand focus on Wolverine rather than the whole team)

Other than that though, while Julian McMahon is a fine actor his portrayal of Dr. Doom wasn't the one we all know and love though that was probably due to the script moreso than Julian.

Overall both films were really just lacking, they should've focused more on the growing threat of Doom and Ben's desperation to become "normal" again. I'm not going to even get into the second one either.

I actually liked the first one quite a bit. The second one was hugely disappointing for a number of reasons...

1) SS looked freakin perfect, but everything else was wrong. He energy beams didn't look NEARLY impressive enough, and his relying on his board for power was ******ed.

2) Sue storm looked messed up. She looked much better in the first one.

3) SS simply going into the sky and single handedly killing Galactus was also ******ed.

4) The whole "our powers are switching when we touch!" thing was stupid, and distracted from the main storyline.

5) The idea of SS being near Doom transformed him back to looking normal was terrible PLUS ruined the effort they'd gone to in the first one of having established his messed up face. Doom's face being messed up is key to the character, to erase that after barely having set it up was unforgiveable.

There were other problems but those were the main ones.

Not to disagree with random's observations of FF2, but I think you missed the point on item #5. It was not Doom being NEAR the Surfer that changed him back to normal, it was the Surfer breaking down Doom to a molecular level and then reassembling him [as he passed through the ice wall] that removed any imperfections from Doom, thus making him "normal" again. I thought this was a great way to illustrate the Surfer's powers and to give Doom a reason for craving them. Apparently Fox did not think we would get this, so they altered the shot of Doom looking at his cured hand to a shot of him watching his hand change back to normal.
Tim Story did not love this idea, and that is why he shot a scene with Doom hiding his disfigured face from Sue, but this was cut from the release print.

Either way, SS changing someone at a molecular level by accident just because he's doing something in the area is not a proper reflection of the comic character, as was much of his representation in the movie (again, other than looks which were pretty much perfect).

Actually, the point is that showing Victor von Doom's unscarred face outside of the mask (other than in flashback) betrays a serious lack of understanding about what makes Doom's character so appealing in the first place.

Hugo Weaving's performance in "V for Vendetta" was the Doom we should have gotten.

Hey, I am not saying they were true to the comic books by any means; just what they were doing within the context of the movie universe they created. Fox clearly does not understand [or care] about what these characters are all about at their core levels.

The only reason we got a Dr. Doom in what little body armor we got was because he needed said armor to house the Surfer's cosmic power. If that is the justification that Fox needed to get Doom in such a costume, then that's fine by me; the important thing is that visually at least he was much closer to the real Doom than he was the first time around.

No story, no moral compass, no actual superheroics in the 1st film.

They did not feel grand or ambitious.
Action was particularly bad in the first one, better in 2nd but fantasti-car sequence left a lot to be desired.
Imagine the crazy stuff they could do with Reed's stretching power if they had a bigger budget and more time spent on the film. As was, was a little pathetic and mostly used for gags.

I could handle Jessica Alba fine as Sue except those awful dehumanising blue contacts were just too distracting in the 2nd one.

Dr.Doom did not feel like Dr.Doom at all.

No Galactus was awful, not surprised as they seem cut-rate movies. Silver Surfer was surprisingly good though.

Too short, feel rushed, again not enough time or money spent to make them the grand space epics they could have been.

I do think it's a shame they never had another go with this cast, but then if Marvel ever get the rights back it means a possible go with a new story they could have ruined in the 3rd one, like say, the negative zone. If marvel ever do get the rights back they could adapt the story where the thing goes bad(after a cure experiment) and fights the hulk for ages through the city.

Fox still has 3 years or so for "another go with this cast" so I would not count an FF3 out all together!
