SW: Eps. I - The Phantom Menace in 3D - Spring '07

I might see it if I have nothing else to do

The movie sucked in 2D. Adding a 3rd dimension won't make it any better. The only way to make it better is replacing Jar Jar Binks and every Gungan with Liam Neeson. In fact, make the Gungans the Liam Neeson race. Everyone looks like Liam Neeson in one of his roles.

3D wasn't cool 10 years ago in the 90s. 3D wasn't cool 20 years ago in the 80s. It wasn't cool 40 years ago in the 60s. It won't be cool when George Lucas does it.
The way that modern films are put together, and the advent of a rapidly improving technology makes this new batch of 3D movie projects very exciting to me. I was just at NAB, and many of the people that visited our booth were keen on finding out if RAVE HD could handle ingesting frames from stereo sources. With f/x shots being, by in large, digitally created, or live action with digital elements you can set the stage for camera angles that have never been possible, and really add DEPTH to the height and width...Test footage I have seen really seems to pop off the screen, unlike anything that has come before. We all know I have very little respect for Lucas as an artist, but as a force of nature, ILM can't be stopped.

I cant wait for the editied in bits of people poking things at the audience, just to make the point its 3D.

of course, once they make 3D porn movies, combines with sperm banks, us boys might as well forget about ever getting any again

whoah, time to do some acid and go to the pod races.

p.s. There have already been many 3D porn films. I have a preview for one where John Holmes brags that "you...the lady in the fourth row? can now sit under the shadow of my enormous shlong!"

This may be a reason that the fad didn't take off.

are these only going to be released in IMAX?

Hmm... a couple of years ago there were all those roumors about a CGI Obi-Wan in Episode IV... I wonder...

Lucas originally planned to have Obi-Wan be all CGI in the prequels...and get this; he asked John Williams to compose A NEW THEME TUNE! On the day Williams unveiled it to Lucas, he stuck it on - and it was the original Star Wars theme. Lucas laughed, and then said, "You're right."

No. There are several regular thatres that have been showing 3D movies. Remember those 3D documentaries Cameron did? Those got wide releases.

Why not give it a chance before you dismiss. 3-D has never had the power of a major franshise like Star Wars behind it. It seems preemptive to say that it will not work because it has not before. I dunno, Matt, recenetly you have been a bit whiney, man. What is the deal?:(

I'm just sayin'...3D does have a tendency to blow chunks and the glasses annoy the hell out of me.

yeah, let's put the worst prequel in 3D! Yea!
Ep1 is the best, if you can ignore Jar Jar. The plot is the tightest of the III, the dialogue and the acting is the best. The photography is the best, the music. I suggest you watch it again. Jar Jar just ruins everything. II and III are a mess, I think this big part of this is the lack of charisma and presence of Hayden...among other things. Neeson makes TPM watchable.

I agree, if you can look past Jake Llyod and Jar Jar (which are granted, two fairly large aspects) episode 1 is the best of the prequels...but that is like saying one piece of **** smells the best of all the rest of the ****, really.

Man, I need to start reading what I post. I write like someone who is still learning english!

I think one thing that episode I achieved was that they used real sets. However, i still think the dialogue sucked. I hated Jake Lloyd. Grrr.

The thing is that the main reason why the prequels 'sucked' because they never had anyone that you can relate to. No naive teenager (Luke), charming rogue (Han), or indenpdent female (Leia). Everyone was either a Jedi, or a political figure. BORING!

Very true. Also, there is no sense of threat, of overwhelming odds. In the originals, the universe was already at war, laser beams everywhere, and the good guys were a small band again an empire of evil. That's just exciting straight away. In the prequels, the bad guys are few and far between. What bad guys there were - Maul, Sidious, Dooku, Vader - were fantastic though.
