Remembering Star Wars The Phantom Menace

Thank you, thank you. I'm here all night.

Not by choice.

While it wasnt the most memorable star wars film, it will always have a place in my heart

Funny that this thread would pop up. I was going through some old things in storage over the weekend and came across a number of (still sealed) TPM action figures and the novelization by Terry Brooks that I picked up as my anticipation for the film built.

I then fully remembered the overwhelming sense of WTF that I had upon leaving the theater and recalled muttering "**** you, Lucas" in front of my sister as we left. Fun times.

Yea I still have the hardback of the novelization, some of the figures, and all of the Pepsi/Mountain Dew cans of each of the characters. And the soundtrack.

Ahh yes, the soundtrack. That was a quality purchase. Duel of the Fates still makes me giddy.

Duel of the Fates was amazing and still is. It is the ultimate "duel" music. I wore that CD out for sure.

The coverage this film got was absurd. I can still remember the "will it top Titanic?!?!" and Pepsi product endorsements.

I remember going to the stores and searching franticly for the jedi toys at walmart and kmart and always dissapointed when they didnt restock. I will never forget when I first saw it in theaters, I had saw the rereleased originals in 1997 I think it was so I was 13 at the time menace came out and while I thought it was alittle boring with the senate talk I still loved the jedi battles and how fast paced they were. but main the hyp at the time was in major overload and it felt special and made you feel that you had to atleast see it.

I thought this would be a cool thread where we would al reminisce about 1999 being the year that Star Wars came back to theaters after a 16 year wait

Which is what we were led to believe, only Star Wars never really did return. :csad:

I saw the originals the first time around. I don't really recall much of watching the first one, but it defined my childhood and I had the voice narrated soundtrack on vinyl. Empire let me down with the cliffhanger and back then and with no Internet and sketchy news, it was years before a "Revenge of the Jedi" rumour reached me to set things right. I loved the third, and was still young enough to like ewoks.

So all those years later the OT got a re-mastered release and a few CGI additions that wound up being a mixed bag of hits and misses, then along came the prequels...

I was hyped. Star Wars was returning! I watched The Phantom Menace and walked out thinking it was a mediocre effort. Each day I thought about it I began to hate it even more. Finally, I decided that it was a complete load of crap. Despite this, I actually watched this steaming turd once more on television.

It still sucked.

I got the regular CD plus the Ultimate 2-CD release that came after, aside from Duel Of Fates I don't think John Williams put enought variety into the music for the prequels to this day I've probably only listened to them once.
