Syd Barrett dies

It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here
And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear
That I'm not here.
And I never knew we could be so thick
And I never knew we could be so blue
And I'm grateful that you threw away my old shoes
And brought me here instead dressed in red
And I'm wondering who could be writing this song.
I don't care if the sun don't shine
And I don't care if nothing is mine
And I don't care if I'm nervous with you
I'll do my loving in the winter.
And the sea isn't green
And I love the queen
And what exactly is a dream
And what exactly is a joke.

Damn it. I'll miss you Syd :(

Man, the original floyd was amazing. Even though Syd lost his mind he was still an amazing musician. He will be missed.

R.I.P. Syd

I've read that he was mentally insane, but HOW insane? Were there accounts of him doing bizzare things? Such as?

Rip Syd

According to Roger Waters, Barrett came into what was to be their last practice session with a new song he had dubbed "Have You Got It, Yet?" The song seemed simple enough when he first presented it to his bandmates, but it soon became impossibly difficult to learn: as they were practicing it, Barrett kept changing the arrangement. He would then play it again, with the arbitrary changes, and sing "Have you got it yet?" After more than an hour of trying to "get it," they realized they never would.

Wasn't that the point?

Probably.

I do remember reading about an appearance Pink Floyd did on a tv show when Barrett was in the band. This was when music artists on tv just mimed playing their song.

Barrett stood completely still, staring into the camera, while the band "played" whatever song they were supposed to.

Some have thought that his taking LSD led to his breakdown

Shine On You Crazy Diamond tis the right refrain as others have noted. And I will echo PLAS as well;

Wish You Were Here

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

why cant we overlook the bad and posibly insane of syd's life and think of his impact. thats all people today think of, "such a terrible-this-", "a horrible-that-". and im tired of it! our world sucks enough without haveing to harp on the bad things in life. i believe it was john lennon who said,"we dont get peace by worrieing about the world, we get peace by getting things done." and he was right! so as we think of the life syd had, think about the Life he had not the years of reclusiveness and insanity. so ill say it once and i'll say it again, Shine on you crazy diamond.

Everyone has character flaws. That's what makes us human. The good times and bad make up "life".

well i didnt mean he didn't have any flaws i just meant that the bad is all people want to talk about these days.
