SyFy’s Being Human

I don't want to give the impression I thought any of the developments in the last episode were "bad" in any way. I think it was damned fine tv. Dramatic, funny, interesting, the whole shebang. But with Nora I was hoping after everything that came before and knowing Josh that they'd have written her a little more understanding. Or at least show some support by going after the "hussy" that put moves on her mate or something?

With Aiden, I am hoping beyond hope this is a setup or something. Granted he's been all beat up on the inside about Kat and he was thrown for a loop with possible eviction, ect. Plus he was acting all squirrely from the episodes begining, like he was sick. But then he got it on with Suzanna and I thought he'd maybe turned a corner. I even thought he had fought off temptation when it looked like he had walked away from the red head. But then... WHAMMO at the end. I want to believe in Aiden. I want this to be a plot by Suzanna or Kenny. They drugged him somehow (It would explain him acting so sick after drinking so much blood) or what ever. But the show's history has been one of no easy outs for our characters. They have to live with their actions. Aiden himself expressed this when Sally banished the ghost girls haunting him from the house. He wanted them there as a reminder. It's just if this is not a setup by whomever, well, my reserves of understanding and forgiveness will be exhausted. We've seen Aiden (and vamps in general on the show) have more than just an addiction/need for blood. They lust for the power control and rush of a life murder.

Again, it's all great stuff and the show goes to great lengths to not romanticize vamps, but I cannot stop judging Aiden if they choose to go down a self destructive path with the character. Again, it'll make me a little sad, but it will make for great tv. ;)

Yes but he'd gotten past this mostly. Now he's back to just a killer monster again making the past several years of progress seem like a waste of time. Why continue to tell a story if you're just going to keep recycling it?

It's nature vs nurture at its finest . To ask a vampire not to kill is like asking a lion not to.

Unlike a lion, the vampire has a choice of not drinking their victim dry. Or just drinking from a bag.

I'm not saying a vampire can not live without killing. What I'm saying is that he(Aiden)is a killer he likes it more than he wants to admit even to himself. It's in his nature to kill.

These issues are the same things Mitchell (and Mitchell's writers) had to deal with. I hope Aiden can avoid that fate... But you never know.

This was a was a really good episode. I wasn't surprised Sally's meddling would end in tragedy for brother. She never learns. Aidan killing that girl wasn't a surprise either, and I hope he gets a new bloody ghost to haunt him. Josh and Nora's story was the most interesting this week. Josh really wasn't expecting to wake up that way...lol...though I hate when he starts whining. I figured Nora would lay into him. Wolf or not...her husband-wolf slept with another woman. Of course she's pissed, but she'll get over it.

Man this Henry question is bugging me. I remember Aiden talking to him in like an alley way and he was sick, but I can't find specific info of how he died. If it was implied or if we saw him go to dust?
He walked off, but they never showed the death. It was only implied. I think they'll bring him back considering the other show he was on was cancelled. Plus, his random cameo a few episodes back makes me think he'll be a surprise guest at some point.

I don't consider the Aiden story line a retread because that's what he is a killer a monster. It's one the overarching plots of this show. Monsters trying to be human
Agreed. They have shown this over and over again, but I like the angle they are taking this season with the wife is a good one. Did anyone catch she didn't kill the one vampire who was basically on his way to drain a human? Something more is going on with her...

Yep, and he will have to fight that urge to kill till the end of his days. Like in real life, when people have their ups and downs with addictions (or other problems)... Hmm, I was thinking, if Suzanna is killed by Kenny & co, I see Aidan going reaper again and becoming vampire leader by the end of the season... it could be cool.

Actually a variation on that idea might be where we are headed. Say Suzanna tries her best to get Aiden "Clean". She gets him to go minimal on a minimal blood diet and they team up to take out the vamps in the city. This puts him on a collision course with Kenny and of course the true fate of their biological son will be hanging over Suzanna like a sword of Damocles. Just a thought. I think that whatever the course the writers set, that Aiden will be in a way different place, good or bad, before the season is over.

I mean this in the best way... WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT show!!?

Wow. This one is going down as the departure point in shows life. There's everything before this episode and everything after. So much went down, so many things coming to light and none of it easily changed back to the status quo.

First off... I am sorry but the writers are really stacking the deck against Josh. I don't think Nora (sweet bipolar Nora) didn't have a solid reason to my eyes to be treating Josh the way she was at the start, but that was solved by Josh's bedroom act by the end. I suppose it's a dramatic example of how different he really is on the inside, but it feels forced and convenient so that they can write a big melodramatic breakup. I mean NOW Nora has an unimpeachable reason to be pissed at our boy, but I just think it's too much. Is Josh unconciously letting his inner wolf win, or is it taking control, or what? Whatever the case it's robbing the character of true responsibility and self control, and that's not good for a character that can too often be written as a pushover (with clear moments of strength, sure). Maybe my love for the actor and the character is clouding things but they've pushed him into a place I just dislike seeing him in and now Nora has a valid reason to be hell on wheels all the time.

Aiden... What can be said of Witwer and his performance? He was just phenomenal. I am still not sure what drove Aiden to do what he did the previous episode, but that we got a full on unveiling, a truthful look at his guilt and reveling at being a monster was worth it. Is Suzanna going to be good for the most dangerous vampire in Boston? Beats me... but I can't wait to see where it goes.

Sally's time jaunts have been great. They've managed to make them character revealing, exposition peices and lay the ground work for future plots. Pretty sneaky Sis.

Can I just say, I am betting the previews for next week do not portend a sea change, but a single episode exploration. Too much was done in this episode to just go on some tagent for too long.

All in all another WOW episode despite any quibbles I may have about certain things.

I wasn't really a fan of the last episode. There was a lot going on for all the characters and the three stories didn't mesh well. I'm not that interested in what's going with Josh and Nora because it always winds back to Josh whining like a *****. I was hoping having his wolf closer to the surface would change him into someone who is more assertive...and though he is more assertive. He obviously has no control over it, which isn't really fun to watch because it will lead back to him whining.

Aiden and his wife...meh. Not that interested. I'm also not that interested in Sally and her brother. Next week's episode looks really good, and it will finally answer the question of rather or not she can actually change time during her time jaunts.

Really CH? You weren't even feeling Wiwer's performance a little? A smidge? Cause I think this was the most honest Aiden has been with himself, and frankly the audience.. like ever, really.

I enjoyed his performance. That was wonderful, but I felt like of the three stories that were shown Aiden's story could have had more attention devoted to it. As it was it just didn't affect me all that much.

that stinks, hope the actors move on to bigger and better things

Are they still filming? I hope they have time to change the finale so it reflects a true series finale...

I mean, I guess if the writers have been given a chance to end on their own terms, fine. You can only have Sally **** things up for herself/Aidan skate on the razor's edge of humanity/Josh do the **** that Josh does so many times.

But, like... Syfy, what else do you even have? :o

There's a video of the actor's saying what they'll miss most about the show, so I think this has been in the works for a bit. I doubt the rug has been pulled out from under them.

I don't watch a whole lot of programming on SyFy, but they have some decent shows right now. I've been watching Bitten (which is pretty bad) because I read a couple of the romance books back in the day, but they also have Helix and Defiance. Defiance is not that bad.

Thanks for answering, Sawyer! I'm glad to hear at least there will be a true series finale.

This sucks, but haven't seen the show since S3E1.

I thought Lost Girl and Bitten would get axed first? Since those shows are litearlly in the 600-800K ish range in viewers. But both are co-productions in Canada.

Helix is good. Haven is good. Lost Girl is okay ish.

SyFy just ain't good ratings wise. It's like nothing can break 2M+ on it outside of ****** SyFy Saturday movies :o

I really hope they don't cancel Bitten or Lost Girl without replacing them with something comparable. Aside from Continuum, which I also watch, those are the only shows geared with women in mind. They need at least one or two shows like that IMO...or there really is no reason for me to watch SyFy at all.

I'm kinda shocked they haven't picked up Saving Hope. It's not a Syfy show...but season 1 aired in the summer a year or so ago on NBC. Got greenlit for season 3 up there. Has Daniel from Stargate the series and Lois Lane from Smallville as the leads.

Hell, even more surprised it's not airing on hulu plus or netflix...

Continuum is also a Canadian show or co-production between SyFy and a Canadian network.
