Talent who you think are under appreciated

Christopher Eccleston was an underrated Doctor Who, and gets wasted in thankless movie roles (Malekith, anyone?)

Lee Pace. I've seen plenty of movie and Tv shows performances of his and I'm surprised he isn't an established leading man yet. He is fantastic in Halt and Catch Fire. Hollywood is thirsty for white american leading men so it is strange he is over looked.

Total agreement with this. He's genuinely talented and charismatic, he has a lot of range as an actor, he's great with accents and he's also ridiculously handsome. Why is this guy not huge again?

James Marsden

Kimberly Elise

Emmy Rossum

Kerry Washington

Juno Temple. Maybe 'cause she's been somewhat typecast playing mostly skanks and ho's, but she always puts in very nuanced performances, no matter how weak some of her films may be.

Kristen Stewart. Who actually does decent films (Sils Maria, Adventureland, Welcome to the Rileys, The Runaways) and puts in subtle performances but still gets s**t for not being emotive enough.

Matthew Goode. People give him a lot of sh** because he was miscast in Watchmen, but he's actually a really talented actor.

by far the most underrated actor in Hollywood - Patrick Wilson

On the flip side, your post made me think of Vera Farmiga who's played his wife in The Conjuring movies. She rarely shows up in movies but when she does, I've always found her amazing to watch (it doesn't hurt that I also think that she's uniquely beautiful—I couldn't get enough of her close-ups in The Conjuring 2). :o

Also on the female side, Marcia Gay Harden is amazingly talented and isn't as prolific as she could be. Even with Hollywood being as sexist & ageist as it is against women, I don't understand why Marcia Gay Harden isn't as prolific compared to other actresses in her age range, like Sandra Bullock and Julianne Moore for example. In the same age range, there's also Allison Janney—very talented as well in everything I've seen going all the way back to 10 Things I Hate About You.

As for male actors, I've always thought of William Fichtner as one of the quintessential examples of lesser-known underappreciated actors. Sure he's been in the odd summer blockbuster every now and then (I really liked his character in TDK) but he's the kind of actor the GA sees but never remembers his name. And he's pretty darn good as an actor too, in terms of acting I liked his smarmy character from Elysium.

I'm sure I'll think of others later, but while I'm thinking of TDK, Cillian Murphy's got to be criminally underappreciated as well. Well, maybe not here on SHH where we all know him from his Scarecrow and sci-fi & horror movies (heh), but by the GA and Hollywood? I haven't seen him in that much and he's really good (I recommend The Wind That Shakes The Barley for anyone who's only seen him in his blockbuster movies).

Yeah, I don't really either. I think that 1. he was simply too young (or looked too young) for the role he was playing and 2. Snyder directed him to be blatantly obvious about being the bad guy.

I didn't even think he was bad in Watchmen.

I thought he was terrible in Watchmen
With that odd german accent and slimy body language, he might as well have just waved a giant "I'm the villain" flag all movie

although that can probably be blamed, at least in part, on Snyder

Off topic, but saw him before. He seems cool and down to Earth. He's from my home town, Buffalo, and saw him in the biggest mall there which was surreal since it's the last place one would expect to see anyone. Very cool.

Michael Jai White. I've always liked him, he's always been a fun actor and incredible, martial artist. I feel like in the right CBM role he would shine. Like maybe in a villain role.

He has played a number of superheroes and villains already. Hr played spawn, brozen tiger and was a villian in the dark knight

Elcceston's nineties movie career is underrated.

let him have it was a movie I loved as a kid. The scene with the ticking clock stuck with me.

Shallow grave which kicked off Danny Boyle and Ewan McGregor's movie career is also a cult classic in the UK.

Jude which is based on a Thomas hardy story and starred eccleston & Kate winslet is the movie Christopher eccleston said he is most proud off. The one film of his career he said he stands by and hopes people seek out to watch.

Titus Welliver. He's great in everything. I've yet to see his Bosch show on Amazon, but it was good to see that he finally landed a lead role in something.

John Turturro. Love how he brings a different comedic quirk to just about every role he does, the Transformers movies notwithstanding (but I blame that on Bay).

I agree, he seems like a cool guy based on his roles but I don't recall ever seeing him do any press for any movie, which is too bad. Cool that you saw him at a mall, don't think I'd be able to pick him out from a crowd myself though.

Yes, the Man in Black! :p Personally I would've preferred him as Commissioner Gordon in Justice League over JK Simmons. Not that I'm complaining with Simmons, but Welliver has a bit more gravitas IMO, which works better with Gordon.
