Tarantino's top 10 of 2011

Not undermining how much he knows about movies. His directing skills are what are in question here.

Especially when he's being named with the likes of Scorsese & Spielberg. His name doesn't belong with those two. At all.

Give me a break. You think Scorsese or Spielberg could make a movie where a guy f***s a donkey in a fast food restaurant?!

I THINK NOT!

Hacks.

I thought that Drive was better than most of QT's movies. Sounds like jealousy to me.

I didn't get into Drive, but then I thought Drive Angry was the best film of 2011, so what do I know? :woot:

Smith isn't the worst director, that's for sure. I personally like his work, be it podcast, movies, or comics, and I think he generally puts out a fairly decent product.

Should he be in ranks with Spielberg, and Scorsese? Probably not, but that wasn't really what I was talking about.:yay:

I'm out.

I personally think Drive is better than ANYTHING tarantino has ever made. period.
That being said, that doesn't mean tarantino's films aren't great....they are. Or that the director of drive is a better director....that can't be proven yet. But Drive was expertly done. I literally think it one of those rare films I find perfect (I've only seen it once though) and I can't think of a thing I would change about it.

And he rated Green Lantern over Drive? I'm all for personal opinions but wtf

The list is wtf to me to but I did read reviews of people saying Drive is like a micheal Mann/Tarantino movie. But I like that he actually is willing to make a list so good for him.

My List doesn't compare very well with his:

1. Drive
2. Tinker, Tailor, Solider Spy
3. 50/50
4. Moneyball
5. Midnight In Paris
6. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
7. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
8. The Muppets
9. Crazy, Stupid, Love
10. Hugo

I like his list though. It is very interesting and I'm glad he likes Apes and Cap so much. I felt those were the best "Blockbuster" type films aside from MI4

Wait People Are Surprised Tarantino Likes Trashy Movies???

His always talked about how he likes B-Movies, Cheapo Grindhouse movies, Obscure low budget, Blaxploitation and so on.

Most of those types of movies influence his work

Or perhaps I too am allowed to have the personal opinion that someone else's personal opinion sucks?

So in other words, you're not for personal opinions unless they're yours. Personally, I find this a rather flighty argument. It's fine and well to call rights but it doesn't really say or mean anything. You're talking about a man with an entirely different mindset than you, and one that you just can't really understand. To write him off so easily because he thinks something you don't...no people aren't that simple. I'm not saying he's above you. I'm saying he's different.

Also, what chamber music said.

So in other words, you're not for personal opinions since you can't deal with the fact that someone can have a personal opinion on someone's personal opinion.

First of all, the comment was clearly exaggerated and even a bit frivolous. But secondly, this is a thread on a message board. And lastly, people have the right to call out someone's personal opinion. Just as Tarintino (or anyone who disagrees with me for that matter) has the right to call out mine. I think people get to sensitive over ridiculously trivial things such as movie taste. This is not a personal attack on QT, given that he didn't direct Green Lantern and I clearly have a lot of respect for the guy

So I can't call you out? Come on, we can go with this back and forth bullsh-t all day. It sure seemed an awful lot like a personal attack, and a lack of respect. Therefore, yeah, I'm against you for it. There's no talking your way out of it. There's no backing me down. You said what you said, and what you said, by general logical definitions, was a personal attack on Tarantino. Whether you see it or acknowledge it or not because you don't want to look bad is irrelevant. Saying someone's opinion sucks is a personal affront. You see, I make no bones about the fact that I am against you, but I do not see my response as an affront, because you are the offender. Not me. You are not the victim here, Tarantino is. You don't have to like his tastes, but I'm going to say what I think too. That should cover all the bases of your response, unless you just want to get petty, personal, or nitpick me and my character. I'm not saying I expect that of you, but this is Superherohype, and I would expect that as a response to me on Superherohype. Well, mostly in the Batboards, but still.

Yeah, thanks for not reading the very next sentence where I basically call an end to the constant back and forth, Mr. Comedy Genius. See what I did there. It's a bit of sarcasm you see. Sarcasm because I don't welcome your post because I'm Mr. Serious FrownyfaceMcPants who doesn't like fun or jokes. Or Christmas. Or free will or thought or freedom of expression. See, now I'm making fun of myself, but in a really deadpan almost unfunny way. Oh, also, this topic is about Tarantino, not Sentinel and I.

Oh hey, you're from the Batboards. That explains a lot. That explains your post which pretty much makes both of us look like idiots, a common type of post among the Batboards. You know, because everyone there likes to appear smarter than everyone else and lord over everyone else and act like a--holes. You know, instead of actually either leaving well enough alone or listening to the actual points being made. Man, the people there love to gang up on people. I wonder why. Must be the power that anonymity on the internet brings. Because, you know, if they were face to face with someone and acted like that, they'd get a punch in the face. Silly me, I'm digressing. This topic is about Tarantino, not the Batboards. I reiterate, I'm simply defending the man.

There. Once again that should cover all the bases and keep me from getting attacked or responded to with a post that is entirely idiotic. You know, like a lame joke trying to invalidate me.

To his credit Tarantino is not a sheep like most when it comes to these type of lists.

Yeah. I love Tarintinos work.

Damn near all of it in fact. I was surprised he didn't include Drive in there but it's his list and he could of put Smurfs in there and that still wouldn't invalidate the guys history of great stuff.

Wow, incredible.

Look the whole point I was making is that you DO have the right to call me out on my opinion. And guess what, I don't care....its completely fine. Its your opinion and I am not entitled to tell you what to think, even if you're judging someone elses opinion (including my own).
However most importantly, my comment was about a MOVIE LIST. So, honestly, I'm quite confused how my disdain for Tarintino's film taste (which he doesn't even post here as far as I know) makes him a victim. I'm sorry, and I don't mean it personally but stop being so sensitive. If someone has a different opinion on something as trivial as this then so be it. Its not an "attack" and tarintino is not a "victim".
Honestly, I can't believe I have to even explain this

You're right. I let Tarantino getting attacked because he disagrees with you get to me. I should've just let you be instead of trying to talk it out with you. Especially since most of our conversation ended up being nitpicking each other instead of actually having a meaningful discussion about Tarantino. But this is me, and I'm not the sort of person who can just LET IT GO. Tarantino has far earned the right to have his opinion respected. That's my point, and I padded it too much in a scared little baby effort not to get attacked. Because that's what the internet does. If it gets lectured, it attacks you until you're either meaningless or you back down, much as I'm doing now.

He lost me with Three Musketeers. I thought that was a boring silly piece of crap.

I think he threw it on there because he enjoyed it and the film gets more hate than it deserves. It's an interesting choice for top ten of 2011 but it would make my top thirty.

this thread is IMO proof why other directors are not showing their top list of movies.

some people think that if you are an artist you can not judje other's work.some people think that their list needs to be the same as their favorite director. if this doesnt happen some are hurt.
fanboys like Drive and fanboys like Tarantino. but if Tarantino doesnt like Drive then ''inception'' happens. boom.

this list is a 100% Tarantino list. and i like that its unpredictable
