Taron Egerton as Elton John in "Rocketman"

Reportedly Elton is re-recording some of his hits specifically for the movie, so I'm assuming Hardy is lip-syncing.

I'm not sure why elton would even do this seeing as how he's talked about how he physically cannot sing like he used to in the 1970's and i'm assuming "young elton" will be a big chunk of the film?

Elton's voice now to his early years is prety much night and day. He's got a deepish husky singing voice now and he used to sound like a chipmunk almost in some of his early hits.

Frankly on a related note I'm a little upset were not getting the long promised Freddy Mercury bio with Baron Cohen.

This could be a winner here, and propel Hardy even further into the public's lexicon. Something like this is perfect for both a character actor and a leading man type, which Hardy is.

Sir Elton John delighted at Tom Hardy's casting, reveals they "get on like a house on fire"

"I've spent a lot of time with Tom already and we get on like a house on fire. We are very much alike - you wouldn't think so and certainly not physically.

"I wanted a serious actor and I'm so thrilled he is doing it," the singer added.

"I didn't want it to be a flippant film. It's based on fact but there is a lot of fiction in it because I don't want just the usual biopic and my life has been so surreal."

Overdue for award love? You get awarded for doing award winning work in the eyes of people who judge your acting professionally. I'm not a professional critic and don't believe in giving awards just because a bunch of internet critics say he deserves one. So, far I've seen him in about 4 to 5 movies and I have seen good acting, but not award winning.

Thank God he's at least aware of that. :funny:

Yea, I was questioning if Elton is delusionally vain enough to believe he looks like Tom Hardy...

I am in negotiations to have Henry Cavill star in Too Beautiful For This World: The Pink Ranger Story.

Oh, Elton John.... you look like a *****y, older Alfred E. Neuman.

Hardy just has such a "guy" vibe. Elton...not so much.

This will be a challenging performance for Hardy, to be sure. And that's not even talking about physical appearance, which I have to assume is not top priority here.

I have no doubt that Hardy can handle the performance aspect.

The visual aspect.... that'll be something to see. I think it might just be impossible to pull off without looking like Hardy is dressed like Elton for Halloween.

:lmao:

One thing's for sure....whether Hardy pulls it off or it's a hot mess, the sight of Tom Hardy dressed like Elton John is gonna be entertaining.

Elton's face is just too distinct and different than Hardy's. If they really want him to look like Elton, they're going to have to hide his face under quite of bit of prosthetics, and I can't see them doing that, so they might just go "**** it, let's let Hardy look like Hardy" and just stick to the wardrobe.

No amount of prosthetics are gonna make Hardy's face look like Elton's. They have completely different facial types, bone structure, and everything.

I'm gonna assume they're not really concerned with physical appearance and just focused on acting.

You can put don cheadle in an outfit like this and you'd know he's supposed to be elton john...

It's going to be all about the costumes and accessories really for tom to get the look. Justin Timberlake was lauded for playing a young elton in one of john's music videos and I don't think he looks anything like elton either.

Yeah, but Timberlake is sort of not distinctive looking enough that he was a blank slate for the Elton look. (Plus they used prosthetics). Hardy's got a pretty distinctive face.

Ehh I wouldn't say tom has a more distinctive look than JT, hell there's a whole other actor out there who is constanly mistaken for him and vice versa.

Who's who?!

I'm sure elton regardless would want someone more handsome than his real self playing him, he's known to be pretty vain.

How will they handle the rise and fall and rise again of Elton's hair?

You know, now that I think about it, since SBC dropped out of that Freddie Mercury biopic, I don't think that would've been a bad role for Hardy. I feel like he's closer in appearance to Mercury than Elton.

Nonetheless, this could still be quite something.
