Taron Egerton as Elton John in "Rocketman"

I kind of wish Freddie Mercury from Bohemian Rhapsody pops up in this so we can get a biographical cinematic universe.

I know Egerton's face too well now to suspend disbelief.

This was my first thought while watching the trailer as well.

Soon...

A bio cinematic universe would be crazy. It all leads up to a concert with 4 legends(played by Taren and Rami Malek)

Sam Jackson as Quincy Jones- I'd like to talk to you about "the world........."

First impressions... Is Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody part of some new cinematic universe?
It felt very similar. Otherwise i really don't know what to say.

Well, the director of Rocketman did end up shooting the last few weeks of Bohemian Rhapsody. Can't wait for the David Bowie biopic to complete the trilogy.

Rocketman has fantasy sequences though. It's not as "straight" (no pun intended) as Bohemian Rhapsody.

It'd already lack continuity though by the fact that Elton's manager/lover John Reid is a character in both of them, but was played by Aidan Gillen in Bohemian Rhapsody and is played here by Richard Madden.

Good trailer, not playing it as a straight biopic might work in its favour.

Going from Littlefinger to Robb Stark is a bold move Cotton, let's see if it pays off for them.

Yeah this and BH kinda just look too glossy for me. I mean like PG13 studio influenced glitzy biopics. I mean Straight Outta Compton was a studio film, but that had a little edge/grit to them. But these are just kinda meh looking. But hey they did these to get a large audience and it worked really well for BH. That made like 700 mill, right?

Im not saying it'll be bad it's just that John (and Mercury) was a wild boy, hedonist. I kinda wish we got some Wolf of Wall Street type hedonist biopics about both of them.

Unless I hear great things I'll just check this out on streaming like I plan to do for Bohemian Rhapsody

I think Rocketman will be a little bit more risque than BR. Whereas Queen are very protective of Freddie, Elton isn't exactly the shy type and I imagine his less desirable moments of his life will make it into the film

Yes, and we're living in it, lol.

Back when Tom Hardy was attached to this, Elton let him read his diary he kept in the ‘70s which apparently covered everything including his sexual escapades and drug use, so yea Elton isn’t shy.

Yeah but I don't think the filmmakers will explore that in depth especially with BH being such a hit at PG13 and this getting a release in the prime of summer

Could be very wrong though

They could rated R it up who knows.

See this is what happens when you don't give Brokeback Mountain the Oscars it was due. :o

Are music bios like this and Bohemian Rhapsody going to serve as a new brand? I think so. You'll see a Beatles and Rolling Stones movie like these soon. I think studios are starting to grasp the monetary gain from these. They're as known as a famous book series or remake. They might even be more well known given that these groups have been around for decades. They have a built in audience and brand recognition.

You sanitize the real story, make it accessible for the whole family and plaster their music all over it.

If Michael Jackson didn’t just have that HBO doc out, I’m sure his biopic would be in the pipeline.
