so I'm decent with computers, but not tremendously savvy, so I was hoping y'all could help me out...

I have the old school 40 gig PS3, and I want to upgrade to a new slim.
So here's my question:
What's the easiest way to transfer all my account info from one PS3 to another?
also
How do I clear out the old system to sell it to a friend?

any help is greatly appreciated
thanks.

C'mon guys, little help?

Sorry dude, I missed your first post.
First use a SD Card or external HDD to back up all of your saved games and other media you placed on the HDD.
System Settings->Back up Utility

Next you need to Format your PS3 HDD.
System Settings->Format Utility

That should be it. I would turn it on after just to make sure all of your Profiles are deleted.

On your PSN name (if it doesn't ask you to start a new one) hit triangle and then click on delete.

Take note that this could take upwards of 3 1/2 to 4 hours to complete.

Hope this helps.

Easiest way is to use the Data Transfer Utility. You need an ethernet cord to connect the 2 systems. This is the ONLY way to completely transfer everything from one PS3 to another. Some games and DLC are copy protected and can not be backed up onto a USB stick or external HDD

Thanks fellas!

Will I have to reinstall my games and all that nonsense, or will it get transferred straight over??

ps. KAL, love the avvy. Ken all the way!

I beleive everything thats installed will transfer as is but you may have to download updates for anything that isnt up to date

i was wondering why my ps3 is so freaking loud. my brothers is quiet. i had sent it back cause it froze up and wouldnt turn on. they sent me one back but i think it was a refurbished one. now the fan is super loud. i can tell it was different cause i switched the hard drive out,then had to switch it back so i wouldnt lose the hard drive i put in before i sent to get fixed. when i got it back i noticed the numbers were different.
