doesn't mean your racist
Yes it does. Or maybe you haven't heard of the American Civil War? Oh and did you know about slavery ;) Go back to school and come back when you're more educated. I'm a non-white Canadian and I know it. Shows how much you learn in the south. :whatever:

we can go back and forth about this

you think it means your a racist and in some ways maybe other people think

but I use it as a way to show where I'm from and I'm proud to admit I'm southern

I'm going to explain this one more freaking time.
THE CIVIL WAR WAS NOT FOUGHT OVER SLAVERY!!!!!!!!!!!

It was after the Emancipation proclamation

Actually the Emancipation Proclamation was issued for more than having slavery as a Civil War issue. It only "freed" the slaves that were not under Union control. It also ensured that Europe would not aid the Confederacy. And it gave a reason for Africans to join the Union cause.

It wasn't made for any love of the slaves.

Yes. And once it was signed in 1863, THEN the Civil War became about slavery

But it wasn't out of any love for the slaves and the desire to free them though. It was to weaken the enemy cause. The Southern economy depended on slavery, and there was no way Britain or France were going to support the Confederacy after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

Yes they were for the support for slavery, but they didn't fight for it. They fought for states' rights and so called government "oppression"

so....uh..Ted Nugent is just a strong advocate of states rights?
  what fools we've been.

ROCK ON NUGE!!!!

Chances are that the vast majority of people don't even understand what the Confederate flag really stands for and hold it off for either decoration or see it as a sign of racism. Just like how most people don't even understand what the American flag stands for

The American flag stands for the fact that cloth can be very important. It is against the law to let the flag touch the ground or to leave the flag flying when the weather is bad. The flag has to be treated with respect. You can tell just how important this cloth is because when you compare it to people, it gets much better treatment. Nobody cares if a homeless person touches the ground. A homeless person can lie all over the ground all night long without anyone picking him up, folding him neatly and sheltering him from the rain.

School children have to pledge loyalty to this piece of cloth every morning. No one has to pledge loyalty to justice and equality and human decency. No one has to promise that people will get a fair wage, or enough food to eat, or affordable medicine, or clean water, or air free of harmful chemicals. But we all have to promise to love a rectangle of red, white, and blue cloth.

Betsy Ross would be quite surprised to see how successful her creation has become. But Thomas Jefferson would be disappointed to see how little of the flag's real meaning remains.

why are you proud your southern? Is being southern better than being northern? Are you proud to come from a heritage of slave owners?
Your basically saying your proud of your ugly history, and your proud to be from the half of the country that wont vote for blacks, hates non christains or catholics, hates muslims, and hates gays.

Why are you proud of those things? I'm sure as hell not proud of the founding fathers who founded this country. They were women oppressing, Indian murderers.

It means what we know it means, and we know what our actions will mean to people when we choose those actions.

symbols are like words

You know what people will think based on what you say to them. You wouldn't call somebody a hor unless you intended to insult them.

wouldn't say something unless I wanted it to be intrepeted the way I know it would be. Nobody intends to me misintrepeted.

So, you're intolerant against people with religious believes. Sounds like you have alot in common with Uncle Ted.

that's not true. I believe there is nothing immoral, disgraceful, or wrong with having a religous belief. I merely believe it's dangerous to believe in them for the most part, and it's frustrating that with all the evidence in plain view, people still choose to hold onto dangerous beliefs.

You can't judge an individual by their religous belief, as I already pointed out in this thread, when I said this.

funny thing is Ted Jugent said in a documentary "I think religion is good for three things. Pissing and moaning, starting wars, and a whole lotta nothing else."
Perfect example of how being an atheist does not make a person exempt from having dangerous beliefs.

How many indians did Ben Franklin kill? How many did Jefferson kill?

Your fanaticism for a political ideology must have injured some brain cells

.
it not better it's just in my opinion you should be proud of who you are

am I proud that my mom's family might've owned slaves? No

and my dad is indian so he doesn't count

You sure it's not true?
I will even admit there is a small facist inside of me. It's towards religion. I know it's wrong, and I wont defend it or justify it or act on it. But I have slight prejudical views towards extremely religous people. I know many of them, that I deeply care about, and they are good people. I dont' like feeling the way I do about religion, but I just can't help feeling that way. I hear about so much horror in the world connected to religion and it just fires up my blood.

yes but you would know ahead of time that it stands for Batman the comic book character, and so would everybody else. It would be obvious to everybody what you were promoting, which is why you would have no problem doing it. He knew that sporting the confederate flag at a political event would promote racism.

If the bat symbol stood for anti-women's rights, chances are Bruce Wayne wouldn't have chosen the bat for his persona.

you see my point? symbols are like words. They have a meaning, and that meaning is known to all. You know what people will think based on what you say to them. You wouldn't call somebody a hor unless you intended to insult them. The confederate flag is the same way. He wouldn't have sported it, unless he intended for people to assume he was a racist. And he is. This was a political event. He knew what it would mean and what it would stand for. he knows how offensive it is, and that was his intention.

okay I just decided that "kill all americans" actually means "love all americans" and anybody who is offended by my saying it is simply incorrect.

you see the ridiculous logic in that? It means what we know it means, and we know what our actions will mean to people when we choose those actions.

not everybody sees it as racist though. case in point: me. and several other people who've posted here. it's a symbol for the confederate states, for states who secceeded because they felt they felt policy was being created and changed without consideration to their well-being. sure, slavery was a part of that, but it's more a symbol of the south. in fact, if you only think of slavery when you see the symbol, perhaps you're a little prejudiced.

He's not saying that he thinks that being a Southerner is better than being a Northerner. He's saying that he's proud of his heritage and where he lives. It's his home. Are you saying that he should hate the place he lives in and be miserable? And way to go stereotyping Southerners.

Why are you proud of those things? I'm sure as hell not proud of the founding fathers who founded this country. They were women oppressing, Indian murderers.
Every place and nearly everyone has their own ugly history. Back then, most women accepted their status. Nearly every country had oppressed womens rights. Nearly every Western nation have oppressed and killed natives in North America, South America, Australia, and Africa.

You sure it's not true?

yes but to be intolerant means I would have to act on those feelings, indulge them, embrace them, and let them control me. For example a person intolerant of gay marriage would vote in favor keeping it illegal when it's included on the ballot in their state.

I would never, ever, vote in favor outlawing a religion, in fact if a civil war was fought over the right of religous people to be religous, I would fight for their right to be religous, assuming that's what they were fighting for.

I admitted above that I get frustrated by it. that by no means contradicts my old post you dug up.

edit... and talk about selective diting my friend. I said before I don't judge an individual by their religous beliefs.
