Teens kill Australian baseball player for fun

If you are predispositioned to do so, something will eventually trigger you. Video games, movies, music, television, books. You name it, whatever was the major media of the time gets the blame for society's ills.

Yeah, well that was kind of my point. But sometimes some game or movie or book they become obsessed with can become a catalyst or driving force. I agree that often the media either blames pop-culture wrongly or unfairly. And sometimes the thing they blame (like Marilyn Manson music for the Columbine shootings, even though those kids hated Marilyn Manson) is not even related, but just the target du jour. But at the same time, I can't totally deny any connection in all cases.

These are teens who aren't very experienced or mature to realize how stupid it was. Blaming society is the easy cop out. People have been killing people since before society existed.

I don't blame society but the social context in which you are born is a factor ( or can be one ). These teens knew that taking a life was/is not a good thing or a least something you should do, I think they just shrugged it off and thought they could get away free ( that is the stupid part ).

Edit : don't get me wrong, they are still a waste of biological material.

Well thank you ****ing much America. Your yippie ****ing ki yay love of guns has killed one of my countrymen.

What America has to do in this story ? It happened in Australia involving Australian people.

Note for self : if you can't read, don't post :)

You're probably being facetious, but if not, blaming all America for the actions of a couple bags of waste is pretty ridiculous. It's like blaming all of Australia for the actions of Martin Bryant.

No, I'm genuinely pissed.

No, I'm genuinely pissed.

So you're pissed at ALL 300 million Americans for the actions of two or three people. Because that's really logical. :o

I guess the next time an Aussie does something stupid, I'll blame you.

If it's deserved you have every right too.

Can I blame you for the rape, murder, subjugation and discrimination of the Aborigine people of Australia then? Or how you are now turning away desperate refugees who are living in the worst of the worst conditions and trying to make it to Australia where you promptly throw them in the equivalent of concentration camps on some island in the middle of nowhere? I can go on. Don't get high and mighty that you are somehow better. No one can claim that because everyone has some nasty history in their national heritage and it's not exactly hard to find some truly grotesque atrocities.

It's never deserved to blame you for something you didn't do or have any control over. That's ridiculous. If you blame all Americans for what a few scumbags did, you are generalizing much in the same way racists blame a whole race for the actions of a very few. I've read your posts before and you've never come off as irrational, so I'm kind of stunned you'd willfully give yourself into blind hatred like that.

It's baffling that not only he thinks this way, but he's proud to admit it. A moment's introspection would reveal how ridiculous this mindset is.

I'd hate for jmc to run into a friendly American tourist or ex-pat today. Guy would probably get his teeth punched in for absolutely no reason, but misdirected rage.

Those desperate refugees are jumping the cue my friend.

And you are jumping to a conclusion that this is only a problem in America, completely ignoring everything that's behind it. There's more to this than a simple blurb in a media report intentionally written to display the most outrageous and horrendous explanation behind it.

Look, neither of these is something that should be taken lightly but blaming an entire country for the actions of a few is not right either. I can't understand how you can place blame on everyone else for the actions of a few. They were not prompted, encouraged or accepted to murder another human being but so many people are so quick to place blame on literally everyone else except those who actually committed the act.

I'm not good with sarcasm on the internet. I really hope jmc is trolling us (quite successfully). Otherwise this whole exchange is pretty sad.

In times like this, I usually think of Poe's Law but I have seen so many people who have honestly believed what he's saying that I can't ignore he's possibly being real.

Thats the same mentality American's have hating all Arabs because of the actions of Al Queda......I hope you're joking man because that ****s sad. :csad:

I get weary of seeing some jump on any tragedy as an excuse to go America bashing.

On a side note though I don't blame the kids as much as naive this sounds. This incident is a direct byproduct of the consumerist and stressful way of life in large cities. It is mathematical certain were we are led as a society. You can lock those kids in a cell forever, you can even sentence therm a death penalty, but the root of the problem will still remain.

You forgot to say Knibb High football rules.

America does seem to get the worst of it, which makes me think it's an excuse for them to voice other grievances. If an Aussie killed an American, I don't think anyone would start cursing out jmc and tell him his whole country is to thank for whatever tragedy happened.

I only curse Australian's for Fosters and Outback Steak Houses........

Wasn't Australia a giant prison island a couple centuries ago? I would settle down...
