Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

Seeing this movie tonight reluctantly but hoping to be pleasantly surprised. I’ll just say this right now though, if they kill off Linda Hamilton in this, I am absolutely done with this franchise.

Not like they can’t bring her back. Arnie has died in like every movie lol.

Less than 24 hours for my screening. The Jeremy Jahns review made me go in with low expectations , not that i care much about reviews.

Opening weekened predictions are not good.

$33,5 mil US opening.

I guess we re not getting another Terminator movie any time soon.
Not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

I like the film but it would be a good thing for me. The franchise is long overdue to die or at least on film

I am all for a new Terminator film after this one. Just not another travel to past to kill mother of future with just another gimmick for the robot. If they can't do anything else, then it needs to die

It won't interest me much unless it's a war film set in the future but the ending for this seems it'll just be the same stuff yet again

Can't comment on the ending. Didn't see it yet and not sure when I will. But I guess it's gonna be more they stopped the future...for now type crap. But that's just a guess

Grace dies while Rev-9 and T-800 are destroyed. Sarah Connor stays with Dani though as a mentor figure and mentions her getting prepared.

The new judgement day was probably just delayed like in T3

Dani as the leader of the resistance...it would have made more sense for John to be and you could have had John and Sarah both train Dani

Saw this last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. Tim Miller certainly knows how to do action, but I thought he brought a little bit of that heart from Deadpool also in the relationship between Dani and Grace, and then later with Sarah and Carl.

The performances were good, with Arnold and Linda slipping back into their roles easily. Davis was both a convincing badass and brought some aforementioned heart to proceedings. The actress who played Dani didn’t do bad, but not once did she convince me she would grow up to be this great leader, we’re as even when John was a kid you could see it in him by the end. Luna was good as the Rev-9 though.

As for the John Connor thing
I didn’t have a problem with it really, if this had come out straight after T2 I would have, but 20 years later John seems like a spent force to me. I do see why some wouldn’t like it though
. But before anyone questions my Terminator fan credentials, I have been watching the first movie at least once a year since I was 5, so 30 years, and T2 for over 20. I can quote the first movie ad nauseum. The problem here was John’s replacement was not being overly compelling.

As for ‘Carl’ I didn’t like
I didn’t like the family or drapes thing , despite it bringing some humour to the movie, it just seemed overly trying to make it funny for me
. I did like seeing the T-800 still being showed as a formidable machine though, even against the far more advanced Rev-9.

So while I did enjoy the movie, the problem is we have seen it all before, this was basically T3, Salvation and Genysis put in a blender. If the series is to continue, they need to change it up a little. I also thought this wasn’t a huge improvement over T3, the best of the other T2 sequels in my view. But it was certainly better than Salvation and Genysis, neither of which I hated, but Dark Fate surpasses them a good bit. 7.5/10.

It's a shame we still haven't gotten info on whether Terminators looking like Arnold was a random template assembly line or based on some one. T3 does have a deleted scene but I refuse to accept that as cannon and take seriously

I mean after Genysis I didn't think we'd get a new one, but here we are

I think there will be a much longer break after this movie before they try again...and they WILL try again no matter how much this underperforms.

Well me neither but it did make them some money ($440,6 mil WW on a $155 mil budget) so im not surprised we got a new one.

There is a chance Dark Fate doesnt get over $300 mil WW and with a budget of $185 mil they will think twice before they a make a new one.

P.S. Boxofficemojo is predicting a $38 mil US opening.

It was the second worst Terminator movie for me. Nothing can beat Genisys but yeah, it fell almost completely flat to me. The writing was poor, there was no organic character development, it was too cheesy at times and very predictable. But above all they didn't even try to do someting actually fresh, other than bits and pieces that really offered nothing new.

I liked some of the action especially Linda and Mackenzie owned those scenes. Arnold was Arnold and offered some cool moments. But the writing did them no favour. Everything seemed forced and rushed and even the action tired me near the end. The biggest question mark though is the poor special effects. I would expect something really good from the likes of Cameron and Miller. Both are basically CGI experts. I don't understand what happened in most of the movie.

Yeah I just got out and I’m in agreement for the most part there. This was an absolute slog to sit through. The plot and characters are incredibly poorly written, any theme it might‘ve had is completely contradicted by the events of the film, and any social messages it tries to push are underdeveloped and forced by poor character writing.

The action scenes were brutal and well choreographed for the most part, but it was plagued by ridiculous amounts of slow motion. The action in the first two films is great because of how real and gritty it feels. This is so superhuman and over the top. The last 30 minutes especially and I ended up just being bored.

The only saving graces for me were Hamilton, Arnie, and Luna’s performances. The former two managed to sell the crap writing so it doesn’t look and sound as bad as it actually is. Meanwhile, Luna plays the most un-Terminator like Terminator, but his performance made the Rev 9 more intimidating than it actually was. Davis was fine, her character was awful and felt needless. Natalia Reyes was really bad.

I haven’t seen Rise of the Machines since Genisys’ release, but based off memory T3 is better than this. Dark Fate is only slightly better than Genisys. Overall I’d give this a 3/10.

It should have been a Future War film
I feel like that would be just reminiscent of Salvation.

If they are to do another film, I would like it to be set in a very futuristic future with lots of cool looking tech and machines, kinda like Total Recall but not in a post apocalyptic world in where the world looks so gloomy and hopeless.
