Terminator: Genisys - Part 3

Salvation wasn't as terrible as it's made out to be, but it was just kind of...there.

It was more just pointless than anything else.

Agree.
I loved the look of it. They had a great set up and a great cast, but they really wasted it.

Bale signed up for a movie where he was not the main character and with a smaller amount of screentime. his role got bigger because TDK in 2008 when TS was filmed broke records and became a big hit.

he needs to let it go

Pretty sure Bale let it go. I havent heard him speak on it.

But yeah I remember him being really involved with the editing process

IIRC, McG wanted Bale for Marcus, but Bale was adamant that John Connor should have a bigger role, which makes sense. I honestly don't care as much if Arnold is in a Terminator movie, but I think it's really important to follow either John Connor or Kyle Reese. I think Connor was mostly just a voice on the radio for the first couple drafts.

The look was what I liked least about Salvation. They took a very unique looking future that we had seen in previous Terminator films and turned it into a cliche-looking video-gamey post-apocalypse.

I always loathed, absolutely loathed the idea of Connor being a secret Terminator. That's just ******** fan fiction writing by a couple of hacks. I hate cutesy fan fiction ********. That script should have never been signed off on in the first place.

My problem with this new Terminator movie is it too sounds like fan fiction and not a real movie. I mean give me a break man.

Based off the promo images and the plot details, I think this feels more like a TV show than a film. Fingers crossed this manages to be better than Salvation at the very least. But who knows?

My thoughts exactly.

Agreed and these clowns want to make a trilogy. How much worse can it get?

It became apparent while watching Salvation that the people who made it were REALLY big fans of the franchise. The Mad Max franchise that is, because TS looked much more like a Road Warrior movie than a Terminator one.

There has always been this idea in the back of my mind that if any movie series deserved the best treatment for future sequels it should be terminator. These are great James Cameron films they are playing with yet they give them to mcg and that other dick head that made T3. These films shouldnt have been touched until they found the prefect formula.

I actually dislike T3 more than Salvation. T3 had a not particularly threatening terminator villain, most of the plot was a slightly more light hearted rehash of the T2 and I didn't like the idea of John Conner dying shortly after defeating the machines.

The future scenes in Cameron's movie looked like some nightmare hellish war zone while they looked like a generic Mad Max style post-apocalyptic wasteland in Salvation.

Agree in full. Conner being a secret Terminator is like finding out Batman has secretly been Superman all this time.

So if she raised by terminator than does she call when she leak urine she calls this oil leak? Would be great for humor sake I think at least haha!

Not the most horrible thing like others are proclaiming, but also, not the greatest. Those EW photos don't exactly pain the film in the most positive light.

So does this completely erase the continuity of the Cameron films? If so, I don't think I like that. There are ways to create something fresh and exciting without messing with a great thing. Especially if it's time travel.

Sending a Terminator back in time to Sarah's childhood is an interesting alternative. Because why not send a Terminator that far back to ensure someone's safety. But this also feels contrived. I can't help but feel this is territory already explored in T2. Sarah' journey in T2 was recognizing her own humanity again contrasted against the good Terminator trying to find his.

And I do like the idea of a John Connor Terminator created by Skynet. As an antagonistic Terminator chasing after Sarah that totally works. But serving it as a twist where he was one the entire time depends entirely on execution and one is treading on dangerous territory again to wipe out established continuity.

The most positive aspect is they are retaining the original aesthetic. Clarke looks like Hamilton and I am pleased to see the Resistance wearing the same armor.

This can't be worse than Salvation can it? CAN IT?!

What color would you say Arnies hair is here?

because Im looking at this picture and it seems quite different. Is it just lighting?

Haha, this movie sounds like total crap! I can't believe it...who came up with the "RoboDad" idea anyway? Sounds like a bad sitcom (more like $#!tcom) from the 80s.

RoboDad: "Yoo stay hier while I go to da stoah for zum bread and meelk!"

RoboDaughter: "Don't forget skittles, daddy!"

RoboDad: "I'll be back!" (slams door so hard that the door handle falls off. Laughter)

Cheesy intro with horrible music: "He tries his best, he's not that bad...he's RoboDad! Comforts you when you're hurt or sad, oh he's RoboDad! So be glad! Because he's raaaad! Yes, he's RoboDad...RoboDa-ad! RoboDad!"

:csad:

The premise does sound a bit skittish.

I'll hold out for the first wave of reviews, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not disappointed by the sound of the deadly T800 from the first film being reduced to a surrogate father. But then I guess they already did that to a certain extent in T2, when they had a teenage John high-fiving him in the desert and Sarah mulling over how the T800 was almost a perfect father figure.

It also seems like they're trying way too hard to have Arnie in these films. I'm not fan of films where they keep some actors in their role but change the rest of the cast. Either change them all, or change none. Arnie is getting old and at some point they're just going to have to let go and accept he is longer capable of playing a Terminator. I get the whole 'Terminators have human skin which ages!' thing, but it still sounds like a weak plot device. Arnie's skin may be older but he also looks shorter, his shoulders droop more, and he doesn't have the musculature that he had before. It's hard to imagine the same endoskeleton is beneath that skin.

I think they should have ended it after the first two movies. This sounds like a saturday morning cartoon version of the movies.

I'm going to see this regardless because I love the Terminator. With that said I don't expect much out of it.

Ugh, I don't think I'll care about this new Terminator franchise.

I'll just stick with the original movie. Such a perfect ending; makes me wish Terminator 2 didn't happen (and I love T2).
