...who in their right mind chooses Clarke over Maslany and Larson? Was it because she shares the last name as Jason Clarke or something? But, as you said, better for those two they dodged this bullet.
Your first mistake was thinking there is a right mind in there.

But honestly, the director did some GoT episodes and they probably want to use her status as the Khaleesi.

Someone who has a working history with Emilia Clarke already, having directed episodes of the series in which she stars. That's the only logical explanation to me. Well that, and she has a bit more of the Hamilton resemblance, but I feel like that would be giving Taylor too much credit since as many like to point out, he obviously didn't care about that when casting Kyle Reese.

What happens if this ends up being good? What are the chances?

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was in the same situation too before it's release wasn't it?
There is always a chance the promotional material does not convey the quality of the film. But it is rare to see something that would be this far off.

Unlike you gals, I don't think she's a bad actress. I'm just trying to figure out what makes her bad to you. Her delivery? Or is it because she's a Brit that I don't see the woodenness of her acting?

Brie Larson reminds me more of Linda Hamilton then Clarke ever has.

Right, I had forgotten Taylor was at the helm. And here I thought he couldn't go down from Thor: The Dark World.

I like her, and I am an Anglophile. She seems to have one speed, no subtly, and overall very little range.

But you could say that's her character, no? It was never something I would notice or pick apart.

I use to defend him over TDW. Now I am thinking a lot of it was his fault.

Same here. Everything coming from the production once things seemed to go sour behind the scenes came off as Marvel's fault. Now I'm starting to wonder if what he would have done may have been worse.

I have seen some of her other work as well. Not a lot of difference.

On Dany. As I said earlier in this thread, it is hard to judge. But considering how people receive Dany, you'd expect a bit less of her looking so weak, incapable and incompetent in her big moments.

I think it was all on him. I also heard..(but I can't confirm) that he's difficult to deal with in general.

Worse!?

I just see in GoT what ISS sees in these trailers - whenever she tries to display any gravitas on the show, she comes across like a little girl playing dress up. I hate it when they always have a new "iconic" line from Dany in the trailers because she always delivers them all exactly the same, like "yes, here's my badass line for the season. Hear the conviction in my voice!" And she gets a little unintentionally comical when Dany gets angry too, imo.

Well the turn around was clearly a problem. There is a reason they changed writers and directors multiple times even with such a short true around from the first film. So while Taylor is at fault imo, I wouldn't put it all on him.

Not to say that Marvel's full of saints in suits or anything.

Seriously though, it's like Terminator cosplay.

Honestly that the worst pick of Emila, who is usually very pretty (though I prefer her as a blond). She looks crossed eyed.

And Matt Smith, looks more like a foot here. He looks better with the long bangs.

Oh I complete you now? What about all that flirting with ISS I saw you doing not too long ago? You scoundrel, you. ;)

SPIDEY apparently refuses the watch GoT even though she has the blu ray collecting dust. Maybe if she had, she'd understand exactly how I feel about Dany and why I cringe every time they try to hype her in the trailers. :argh:

I understand Emilia Clarke was suppose to appear somewhat underwhelming and a little bit like a little girl playing queen. But we are far past that now, and she is still coming off in the same manner. It is like everyone follows her because she is pretty and has dragons. There can be no other reason, not with Clarke's performance. Now if that is what they are going for, I applaud them. But then I see the Terminator trailers and realize, that is just her.

Yeah, I'm a Broadway fan so I was intrigued when I heard she was gonna star in the Breakfast at Tiffany's revival. I thought it might be a chance for me to see her in a different light and determine whether it was the show's character or the performance I hated (for the record, I like Dany in the books, but the screen version just makes her seem so two-dimensional). But then the reviews of the play came out, and she got panned pretty horribly across the board, so I didn't go see it. I just don't think she has much range or nuance to speak of.

And SPIDEY, you should listen to Darth and watch Game of Thrones! I know his affections may seem wishy-washy at times, but he does have your best interests at heart this time. :oldrazz:

I am not the biggest fan of Dany in the books either, but at least there is some nuance to here character. Too be fair to Clarke, I think she was very good in the first season.

And I don't know how SPIDEY calls herself a geek and still hasn't watched arguably the greatest show in geekdom history. It is fantastic. Next thing I will find out is that she has never seen Doctor Who either. :csad:
