Terminator: Genisys - Part 4

It is the same reason tv show sets and movie sets look so fake, HD. Seinfeld/Friends/et cetera apartments never seemed fake under the disguise of the cameras during those days, yet now I could barely watch D&D2 because every scene felt like a SNL sketch because of cardboard sets and too High-Def of cameras pointing out the flaws.

Why does the Terminator in the original movie look better than the one shown here (and in Terminator Salvation) ?

It's the lighting I think. Most (if not all) of the T-800 scenes from the first two movies are shown at night.

I agree, it must be the HD - if you were to say, instagram that picture and change the filter to expro or whatever the cool kids use to make their glasses of wine look better - then it would be different.

But also, i was thinking, cars these days are run by computers - surely a terminator could whip out a USB stick from somewhere and load himself up to the car and drive it that, rather than expertly know gears, clutch, mirror signal manoeuvre etc.

It's not the HD. It's cheap cameras and/or people who don't know how to use 'em.

But that one pic is from still photography. It's not gonna look like that in the movie.

The terminators still look like garbage just from the first trailer. No amount of final renders or compositing will fix that.

In the end Cameron's compositing/rear projection and Winston's puppetry will always out do what the best computers can render.

So. It's real Empire's cover.

But the one in the truck is a puppet made from Winston students.

Clarke looks fine to me as Sarah, but it will depend on the material and doesn't look good.

I hate that Ayer made Jai relevant with SQuad.

Responding to Courtney's quotes:

Even when you're supposed to be playing the same character as in the film from 1984?

Is it just me, or does Courtney sound super condescending toward both Biehn and the original Terminator? And if so, boy is that ever some un-earned condescension.

I like how he says this as if it wasn't also true of Biehn's Kyle Reese.

Meh.

This makes me dislike Courtney twice as much, now not only as someone I find a wooden actor, but now it makes me see him as smug and condescending toward actors and films better than anything he's ever done, when he's done nothing to back up coming across so above it all.

Yeah, he really does sound like a condescending jerk there. Maybe bad karma will punish him by having critics and audiences alike brand him as "the scrappy" of the film.

My hope is that up till https://youtu.be/62E4FJTwSuc?t=1m7s of the trailer in the movie, he does give a replica of Biehn's performance because the narrative requires him to - after that point, when everything deviates from the T1 plot we know and love, then changes are obviously 'fair' game...

I want to believe in this movie, I really do; I just hope for this to be the best instalment in the franchise since T2 at the very least.

Man I thought Arnie looked way old in T3 but heck look at him now!

I'm in agreement with everyone here regarding the look of the movie. It doesn't have a "cinema" look to it & almost has a made for TV look. One almost can't take it seriously. Every movie released on BluRay is HD @ 1080P and most have that cinematic look to it. This one almost looks soap opera-ish....

As for Jai Courtney, where does his smug attitude come from? Other than Jack Reacher, his last few movies have stunk it up big time.

After this bombs hell be irrelevant just like kisch after john carter.

The thing is though, Kitsch somehow still IS relevant. He might not be landing big (would-be) blockbuster roles, but he's still getting cast in a lot of stuff. You'd think that playing the lead in back-to-back massive bombs like Battlesh** and John Carter and then toplining the most mediocre film Oliver Stone has ever made (Savages) would severely hurt an actor's career (particularly one who has shown, at best, limited range) but somehow he's still around. He must have a really, REALLY good agent.

As if my dislike towards Jai Courtney couldn't grow more, then I see his comments. What a condescending, smug moron.

Yeah, he really does sound like an idiot. It would be one thing if this was a total reboot and he was playing a new version of Kyle Reese. But he's not. He's playing the SAME character, so much so that they made sure they got the same f***ing NIKES that Kyle wore in the old movie. And then he just comes out and basically says, "Yeah, so even though Michael Biehn is an action movie icon and I'm playing the exact same character he played, meh, action movies are different now so I'm not going to pay any attention to whatever the hell he did."
