Terminator: Genisys - Part 4

While it is disappointing that they spoil something so big, i thought it was a nice added horror that Skynet corrupted John Connor and made him into a Cyborg. It lives up to modernizing our fears of technology, if we are truly becoming more cyborg-ish.

If connor is turned into a terminator would that mean humans loose the war then without connor leading them? If they still win without him then he is even more pointless then bale in salvation.

Also how would sarah recognize john as an adult? I highly doubt the t800 took a photo album back with him.

I was on the fence because I'm a huge Arnie fan. But this trailer has made me not want to see it. I don't have a problem with the twist per se, it just seems like change for the sake of change. And Jai Courtney's face makes me want to punch him. He doesn't have the charisma of Biehn that's for sure.

At this point does it really even matter?

I think the current issue with the franchise is simply establishing a direction forward. Salvation was an attempt at a new story and a new franchise. It wasn't as successful or well-received as they wanted, and it fell short of expectations. This led executives to hesitate to continue that story, or start a new one, and instead we get a film now that seems to be safe: packed with as many "old" terminator names/references to get general audiences into the seats. It's Arnold, and Sarah/John Conner are there, and there's action. I don't want to call it a cash-grab, or outright dismiss it, it's just that's the feeling i'm left with. I just sense that the franchise needs a Blomkamp-type, not talking in terms of directorial style/quality, but in terms of passion/love for the franchise as he has for Alien... someone invested in the series as a fan, to come to the studio with a definite idea that's a step forward, or that feeds into the mythology well, or that is a conclusion to the existing story arc. Someone who understands what made the first two films great, and wants to recreate that feeling for fans but in a new and exciting way. Arnold is the terminator for me, always will be I think, but I don't think he should be in this. The longer he plays the character, the more it diminishes my memory of his iconic role. The more they attempt to add to/change/extend the original two films story, the more damage they are doing.

New trailer.

Cameron is apparently getting the rights back in 2019. Maybe its for the best this series be put to sleep once and for all, it's never been the same since he left, he's really the only one who knows what this story is about and what it should be about.

Was that "twist" in the trailer in the leaked script and spoilers?

I just started watching The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and hooooooly crap, that show is perhaps the best Terminator thing out there. Like, have you guys SEEN it?

Yes. You're extremely late to that party but I'm sure it's praises were sung on these boards quite a few years ago. It was a good show.

That new trailer was simply hilarious. I am now going to watch this after all strictly for the train wreck factor.

People do realize he could always just license the franchise out right? We could be getting these movies past 2019.

I'd not heard about that, would be cool to see him return to the franchise in my opinion, but he's probably going to be filming Avatar 2/3 for like 10 years. Would be interesting if he wrote a treatment and hand-picked someone to direct it though. I'd give anything to see John Connor vs. Skynet in the future done right, with no nonsense or call-backs/twists/cameos. Ironically, I actually think Bale's Connor was pretty good and Jason Clarke is a great actor who, as it now appears, is playing a terrible version of the character.

Considering his feelings on how the franchise should've stopped ages ago something tells me he will just end up letting that sleeping dog lie. Thank God. It's definitely not like he needs any licensing money.

I mean seriously, I'd rank the franchise like this:

1. T2: Judgment Day
2. The Sarah Connor Chronicles
3. The Terminator
4. Terminator Salvation
5. T3: Rise of the Machines

That's how good TSCC is.

I like TSCC but that ranking to me is a bit overboard. It's good but not that good to be superior to the original. I don't think anything has or will top The Terminator. I don't even think that T2 did.

Then again I may be biased. For about 4 years before T2 even existed the original along with RoboCop and Back to the Future was one of my most watched and favorite movies. I would also take T3 over Salvation any day of the week, month or century.

And yet another bad trailer. Better than the other bad trailer but still pretty bad.

What the hell have I just seen?

Wow. That's a pretty bold statement.
I mean, I don't agree or disagree, but damn. I think T2 is one of the best movies ever made.
