Terminator: Genisys - Part 5

People give McG s*** for Salvation, which I personally loved yet unlike the hack doing this crapfest movie, atleast McG tried treating the movie as a serious one. It was grittier and the effects looked grounded. This movie looks like a shiny toy but the toy does nothing of substance

Salvation was actually not as bad as many people make it out to be, I enjoyed it.

I thought T:S was pretty bad. But it does look a lot better than this. Their trailers and production photos were much better, anyway.

Salvation was the attempt at making something tangible and serious

Genisys is pretty much a cheap SNL parody of the franchise

I dunno..salvation is a pretty nothing movie. Its pretty ****** as a standalone and its pretty ****** as a sequel to the greatest films ever! :P

I think Genisys is going to be as bad a T3

At least McG cared, even though his ability didn't match up. But he did care.

Everything we see about this film just looks like they don't care.

Personally I don't really get worked up over the smaller details. With trailers, they always look iffy on the CGI beforehand, and the CGI work is being done almost up until the release of the movie. So I will just wait and see, and I feel the same about Jurassic World (also having some questionable CGI in the trailers). As for the design of the terminators, I feel like that is nitpicking to the extreme. Sure, the old one looks better, but does it honestly matter that much, a few small details being changed? It still comes down to the quality of the movie. I bet if the ugly looking new terminator was from T2, nobody would bat an eye, because the movie is still a masterpiece. But now that it's from T5, which we have all already decided is gonna be the flop of the summer, then it's easier to bash it.

I feel the same way.

I don't understand it though. They should be professionals and care more. Alan Taylor might be done if he screws this up.

Got to admit t least they are trying. The studio must not have been happy with the workprint since it seems they are sinking money into this crappola......

I feel bad for Arnold, he is such a nice guy as I met him a few times over the years.

I want it to be good for him but it looks to be a FAIL on epic proportions....

They signed the writers to first look deals and are ready for two sequels so they seem pretty happy.

Why sad for Arnold? Dude will milk every last drop from the franchise. He has power yet he approves lines like "Talk to the hand".

One can only hope. Thor: The Dark Turd was lousy and this looks even worse.

And yeah, Game of Thrones, Game of Thrones, Game of Thrones, but he has yet to prove he can direct a good movie.

He wasn't even one of the better directors of Game of Thrones.

Taylor's a journeyman TV director. No style or anything. He's not like Michelle MacLaren who puts her own stamp on the shows she directs.

Taylor did direct the pilot for Mad Men, which meant creating the whole (gorgeous) aesthetic and style for that show, so that earns him some points with me. But yeah, it seems like he's not cut out for movies.

Taylor's almost a non-factor on this. All the major creative decisions have been made by David Ellison. It's his own money that's on the line, with this. Maybe a better director could have elevated this at least on a technical level (Justin Lin was originally supposed to direct this) but we would have eventually ended up with the same film.

i'm going to be VERY honest here and go straight against the general consensus here, not to mention straight against my opinions of all the previous visuals.

this trailer actually looks GOOD. I could live with this, matter of fact,
i'd dare to say had we not had all the previous trailers, and just had this one,
i have a feeling there would be quite a load of excitement here.

nevertheless, the previous trailers and visuals have been terrible and you can't just scratch that away.

i have the tiny hope that they've actually fixed everything for the actual movie and it's going to be like 'what just happened', but in a good way.

ah who am i kidding,
the trailer had an exact carbon copy of CGI schwarzenegger in Terminator Salvation when mr nakedminator gets a strike in the face, only in this case he's naked outside.

boo.

The Terminator's look is not a "little detail." Getting the Terminator's look right is a huge deal and they blew it. Downplaying Stan Winston's genius design the way you are is such an absurd thing to do. The director should have never signed off on the bizarre changes to the design.

I suppose you think Alien would have been the exact same film without HR Giger's brilliant design or The Predator would have had the same impact without yet another genius design from Stan Winston. Lets also dismiss Rob Bottin and Rick Baker's work as well. I can't believe your post honestly.

I still have some hope in me that this could be good. Despite the amazing trailers and everyone thinking otherwise I was never convinced TS would be good and it turned out that was the case. It was a problem that McG got important Terminator details wrong and I saw that from early on as a huge Terminator fan.

But here they have at least been able to change things up and follow their own rules. No the trailers haven't looked the best, but I am still hopeful we can get something enjoyable out of this.

Why shouldn't Taylor get sh** for this? He still made the movie. It might not be ALL his fault, but at the end of the day, he's still the director of what will probably be a disaster of a movie.

Rowsdower you know fans only solely blame directors when they don't like them. When fans do like a director they bend over backwards to say that that director has no culpability.

Which is crap because the director is in charge of making the film from top to bottom. If a movie is crap then the director should get most of the blame whoever he is.

People say sam raimi was a victim of spiderman 3 but he was just as much to blame for that crapfest.

It's a genius design, but unlike Alien or Predator which are always visible, the Terminator design has less impact since it's covered by skin for most of the movie. I agree that the changes are for the worse, but reading some of the posts you can tell people are just looking for more reasons to bash a movie they have already decided to hate, that's my only gripe.

I'm not defending Taylor. :whatever:

I think he's a second rate director who hasn't done ANYTHING to prove he's worthy of being put at the helm of such an iconic franchise.

But at the end of the day, he's a hired gun. Skydance hired him to execute THEIR ideas. They (currently) control the rights to Termintor and it's their money that's financing this production.

That's the reality of this situation...

Either way, if this things fails, there won't be a shortage of blame to go around, I assure you. :D Everyone involved will get theirs.

The Alien is rarely visible, you get fleeting glimpses in the first film. The Terminator by contrast is much more visible, and the whole franchise was started on the basis of a dream Cameron had of this metal skeleton emerging from a flaming wreckage.
