I'm not defending Taylor.![]()
I think he's a second rate director who hasn't done ANYTHING to prove he's worthy of being put at the helm of such an iconic franchise.
But at the end of the day, he's a hired gun. Skydance hired him to execute THEIR ideas. They (currently) control the rights to Termintor and it's their money that's financing this production.
That's the reality of this situation...
Either way, if this things fails, there won't be a shortage of blame to go around, I assure you.Everyone involved will get theirs.
I wouldn't say that Taylor is a hack or a bad director just yet, he has too many solid directing credits under his belt with The Sopranos, Deadwood, Mad Men, Rome, and Game of Thrones to be labelled as such. However, he is definitely more of a workman, journeyman director rather than a visionary or auteur. He seems to do best when his task is to execute the vision of a strong producer or showrunner. He is a strong television director, nothing more, nothing less. He is just completely wrong for tentpole films.
Everyone involved will get theirs.
