Terminator: Genisys

^Being a good movie that gets good-great reviews should help. I dont think TDW is really a mark of what Taylor can do as a director as Marvel interfered a lot with that.

The story they have sounds cool, and if Taylor can make it work we should be in for something special.

I have no idea how Genisys will turn out but I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with confidence. The time clock on the franchise is ticking and they know it. If the movie fails, they'll just scrap the release dates, no harm no foul but if it works, they can proceed (having already staked out release dates).

They're attempting to make three Terminator films in four years. I wonder why they're in such a rush? :hmm

Actually it can sometimes. Like Fox did with the third Planet of the Apes film. They greenlit it way before Dawn came out. Because they were confident in what they had seen. Yes definitely they have a time table, but going forth with the others they must feel somewhat confident about the story and where it's going.

People still rank the first two among their favorite movies ever. T2 is often listed as not only one of the greatest sequels ever, but also one of the greatest action movies ever.

Yes...but that does not mean it's still in the general publics eye as much. Terminator Salvation did terrible, and it had Bale who was the big man the year before from TDK. That did not even save the film. Terminator is not the strength it used to be.

Just because people like us on the internet rank it among the top means nothing. I'm talking the general audiences.

If this film underperforms the studio is going to look as foolish as Sony did when the Not So Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed.

EDIT: I missed the post that already made the same point about Spidey.

I know all studios are doing it but it's ******** and it's especially ******** in this case. Terminator isn't all that relevant anymore and Arnold is completely irrelevant.

Well I agree, Terminator is not as relevant, and either is Arnold.

But (not saying it will) it could have a comeback. I remember pre-Begins days where everyone hated Batman, and could care less. It was all about Spidey and X-Men. But if given it's dignity back it can bring old fans back, and a whole new generation with it. Of course I'm not saying it will be the case, but it could be.

I'm just saying there are no guarantees and that this film has a lot working against it. I just think the premature two sequel dates are a bridge to far for a franchise in such a perilous position.

Ya there is no guarantees, but filming is wrapped up, and I'm sure they have looked at most of the footage, and at least felt good enough. But...again that does not mean it will be good. But I think they must have some backing behind them to put money into sequels.

It's so hard to say. Like with 'Jurassic World' I can kinda gauge it - and I've got a good feeling about it. With "Genisys' it's so up in the air, and the only saving grace are the Ellisons.

I have faith in this thing, despite the weird title decision. I also think the cast for this is far better than Salvation's.

Jai Courtney- "I would love to see it be rated R, but I don't think it will,". "I think in this day & age, it's much more likely to be PG-13. There were no f-bombs. But there'll be a healthy amount of movie violence.

What I can say is that we start in a place we're familiar with from the early films and then, you know, circumstances change. It somewhat shifts the course of events from that point," he told host Ricky Camilleri. "It's not necessarily a sequel or a reboot. I don't even know how you brand it correctly. We're not remaking one of the early 'Terminator' movies. And it doesn't necessarily carry on from the point where we left off."

Another PG crap to ruin Terminator like they did with RoboCop.

Yeah, I have little to no faith in this movie. I really don't think Terminator was ever meant to be a franchise. The first one was a solid b-movie and the sequel was a sci-fi action classic, but it wrapped up the story. There wasn't really anywhere interesting to go after that, because they appeared to stop judgment day from happening. But then they pulled the "Oh, wait! We didn't really stop it because this, this and this!" card, and it's been going downhill ever since. And not only has it produced two (and probably three) bad movies, but it also makes T2's resolution essentially meaningless.

Add to that a questionable director coming off the only Marvel Studios film I'd deem "bad," the need to shoehorn Arnold into the franchise as an AGING ROBOT just because the studios are so worried it can't be a hit without him, and one of the stupidest titles I've ever seen, it's hard to get excited about this movie.

On the plus side, I do love Emilia Clarke, and Jason Clarke is a good actor. So there might be some cause for hope here. But actors can't always save a movie. Aaron Paul couldn't keep Need for Speed from being an unwatchable suckfest.

Problem with Thor 2 wasn't the directing...it was the boring script.

Everytime I see that subtitle I want to pronounce like Jenny Cyst.

The silly thing is that people really expected it be R. I mean really guys? People should not be surprised when a movie isnt R nowadays.

Exactly, the last 2 havent been rated R, why would this one be? This really doesnt come as a surprise to me.

And it's not like making it an R would instantly make it better anyway.

I'll be honest there was a that slight hope in me where the studio and director thought feck it let's go back to what made this franchise great and make it R Rated.

Exactly. But people are caught in the details.

Even the new Robocop wasnt bad because it was PG13. I wasnt a big fan of it, but definetly not because of the rating.

I'll admit there are a lot of properties/movies that I wouldnt want to see as PG13.
But I'll give whatever a chance. I remember when I read someone complaining that The A Team wasnt R

People need to get over it.

T3 was not PG-13 it was R. Hardly R, but it was rated that.

I was not expecting an R, I just hope they do well with the story. Probably an unrated cut later on.

I just hope it doesn't have the same look that all these other movies have aka the new Total Recall and RoboCop. I find each pretty substandard visually.

My biggest issue with the PG 13 rating is the Throwanator syndrome that Salvation suffered from. Yes, I too expected it to be pg-13 but that doesn't make me like the fact that it will be. If you spend 150-200mil then you are gonna want to dull the violence and language so the kiddies can see it and you can potentially make more cash. That didn't help Salvation but whatever.
