Terminator: Genisys

Having Arnold get the girl in this, especially Emilia, would make me feel less manly. :oldrazz:

Ha ha, you never know!

Haha! :hehe: Though seriously, I'd welcome it trying to be it's own thing with a different take, rather than trying to make a beat for beat and/or closely similar remake to the original series.

Thats what I liked about the new Robocop, it had its own ideas and went with them, while paying some homage to the original, thats what I want from this as well.

There is only so much most people care about canon. I've seen some very complicated and argumentative discussions on what is/is not canon in other franchises (particularly the Alien/Predator one, it's a nightmare by comparison to most I've seen) but most people just don't care about minor details.

Does an 850 have any marked differences from an 800? None that matter to the story or to the audience so outside of Terminator's hardcore fans it's irrelevant.

I like those discussions but most people couldn't care less about something as indistinguishable as his model or series numbers.

 Although i am definitely a hardcore Terminator fan (I could literally act out the whole of T1 just from memory), if something isnt in the movies I just dont consider it canon.

Well we are not general fans. If you are a hardcore fan even for the bad ones lol you would know the serial numbers for them. The toys/books and all of that call him that. Again then we really could not call the Terminator in T2 the T-800 because they never say it. You can make assumptions. I'm not saying one has to call him the T-850, but he's not a T-800. And any general audience member would not even give a damn about the T-800 number either. To 99% of people it's simply the Terminator. To hardcore fans though we do know that the Terminator is a T-850 (more so to reflect the changed time-line then actual changes, it's stupid I know but it is what it is).

I am pretty sure he does say it in T2, after the bike chase when the T-800 1st gets John and they stop on the bike, the Terminator explains what it is, I am pretty sure he says "....T-800 model 101."

Its definitely never stated in T3 what he is.

.

No he does not say that in T2.

"You're a Terminator right?"

"Yes. Cyberdyne Systems Model 101."

And there actually may be a shot in T3 of his "Termovision" that says Series 850 But I could be mistaken on that.

That is true. In the films, nothing states that the Terminator is a T-800. We only knows based on promotional materials and extras, just like the T-850.

Damn, we look corny as hell debating this.

:o

After years of discussions about the exact way Henry Cavill's hair should be parted, I think we're pretty safe with this topic. :p

True. I did forget where we were for a second.

Ah, thought he said T-800 as well. Though people easily assumed it was the same model from T2 back in the day.

Yes we do look corny, but it is SHH after all.

This whole discussion about T-800/850 came from someone not knowing/caring there was a difference though. :funny:

^Very true, I think its best we drop before any shred of dignity we have left disappears! :cwink:.

I think Arnold should wear something else than the usual leather jacket/biker look.

Maybe a denim black jacket just to change it up?

^I dont think he could pull that look off anymore, but who knows, as long as he looks like a near indestructable machine I dont really care what he wears.

People forget that the T-800 for half of the first film didn't have the leather outfit. He had the punk outfit (with the graphics t-shirt and awesome beige coat). Maybe he can wear something like that.

I think it's a charming novelty of that decade. but overall you're right.

I think 80's hair was worse. It's featured, dry, and always looks dead due to the overuse of hairspray. IE the pancake makeup and hairstyles of the hair-band era.

Yeah he only starts to wear the leather jacket after the car chase.

I do like elements of the 80's style that have come back and have been implemented into fashion:

I love wayfarer sunglasses. The more fitted clothes. Sometimes I'll even wear an ugly Cosby sweater if it's cold.

On girls, I like leggings and those overly big blouses where it hangs to one side, exposing the shoulders. Love that on women!

Well, I'll give the 80's one thing, it was an amazing decade for movies, gave us so many classics, including The Terminator of course, then there are literally about 100 more I could name.

Exclusive : More original characters returning for new Terminator

First things first; I haven’t read the script (though know some that have), I don’t know Arnold Schwarzenegger (but once met the CEO of a protein powder factory that had) and haven’t been given this information by an official source on the production (not that I’d rat them out if I had), but the person that has supplied me with the following info on “Terminator : Genesis” is a really reputable source – they’ve given us a couple of scoops in the past, both of which turned out to be true. They’re also in the position – stress the word ‘position’ – to know; as such, all this is likely one-hundred percent on-the-money.

So let’s look at what we know about the new “Terminator” movie – now officially called “Terminator Genesis” (I’ve had that confirmed, too) – which is about to get underway in Atlanta and New Orleans. : It’s cue out in 2015. It’s going out through Paramount. Alan Taylor, of “Thor : The Dark World”, is directing. Arnold Schwarzenegger is starring, reprising his ‘Terminator’ role, alongside Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as John Connor, and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese. And though it’s not a remake, nor will it brush over the events of the previous movies, the film is described as a fresh ‘reboot – just like JJ Abrams’ “Star Trek” (2009) was, with Schwarzenegger’s title character the connecting tissue, in the way Leonard Nimoy’s ‘Old Spock’ reprise was to that movie.

Our source, however, says a better comparison title – than Abrams’ “Star Trek” – is “Back to the Future Part II”. By that, he/she means that while “Genesis” encompasses an original plot, it also – like “Back to the Future Part II”, which saw Marty and Doc having to revisit the events of 1955 again for the film’s last quarter – returns to and revisits some of the most memorable moments from the first two “Terminator” movies.

The writers have apparently found a brilliant way of playing tribute to the two greatest films in the “Terminator” series, while introducing us to a new scenario, and even new characters (there’s a couple that the torch may be passed to for future installments), that enables the franchise to press restart on itself with no complaints.

So here’s the small scoop we’ve been provided with…

Thanks to that ever-dependable alternate timeline device, and time-travel (which has always been a part of the series), Taylor’s film will take us back and forward between the future, 1984 (“The Terminator”), 1991 (“Terminator 2 : Judgement Day”) and other important and influential time periods in the life of the Connor family.

Firstly, we will indeed be revisiting the events of the original 1984 film again. The ‘Terminator’ from the future will arrive on earth, attack some punks (keen to see who they get to play ‘Bill Paxton’), and then slaughter his way through a bunch of Sarah Connors’ – until he finds the correct target. And all the characters that appeared in the Cameron original, like Detective Hal Vukovich (played by Lance Henriksen in the original), Lieutenant Ed Traxler (played by Paul Winfield way back when), Sarah’s roomie Ginger (Bess Motta in the ’84 film) and, yep, even Pugsley the Iguana, return. So, yep, we’ll likely get to see Schwarzenegger back in the leather jacket and cool sunglasses he wore in the original. And, of course, Kyle Reese (Courtney) volunteers to go back to 1984 and save Sarah – just as he did first time around. But don’t expect everything to work out like it did in the original.. something is going to play out different.

And then, we’ll also be taken back to the events of the sequel. The scene where the T-1000 (played by Robert Patrick in “Terminator 2 : Judgement Day”), posing as a cop, visiting John Connor’s home, where he meets – and consequently kills – foster parents Todd (Xander Berkeley) and Janelle (Jenette Goldstein), is in there. As are several other key moments.

And then we’ll be going back to moments we haven’t seen on film before – such as scenes with young Sarah and her parents.

Obviously, revisiting these events is intentional. As is usually the case with a film using the alternate timeline device, obviously something hasn’t gone right (maybe the Terminator succeeds in killing Sarah this time, around? I don’t know – just guessing) or something that happened in the past has greatly changed the future, meaning Connor’s resistance crew from the future have to ‘go back’ again. I’m not privy to all the why and how – just the when’s at the moment.

I’m still unsure how they’ll explain Schwarzenegger’s ‘older’ look (or maybe they won’t?) but one thing I’m pretty certain is, this will play super fresh and regenerate the series – thus the two sequels the filmmakers already have planned. Having only been told a miniscule amount about it, “Terminator : Genesis” sounds magnificent. This could quite possibly be the film of 2015.

Hmmm, it may be crazy enough to work, if they can pull it off.
