Yeah but then there's also whoever they get with the #2 pick this year. (Kessel?) He will probably demand a lot after the rookie contract expires.

I'm all for seeing another dynasty, even if its a team I hate, but how realistic is it for a team to be competitive if they have 20 million+ tied up on just 3 players?

Kessel could go four or even five now.

If the Pittsburgh Penguins want Evgeni Malkin in uniform next season, it may cost millions of dollars in transfer fees.

According to Reuters, Malkin's Russian team feels the Penguins must buy out the sniper's contract before he can leave for North America. The Russian Federation has not signed a transfer agreement with the NHL. The current deal endorsed by the IIHF would see the team receive $900,000 in compensation.

"We're not asking for ($900,000) compensation from Penguins. Such a sum is a handout and we're not interested in handouts," Metallurg Magnitogorsk general director Gennady Velichkin told Russian media. "Put simply, they must buy his contract from us."

Malkin, who was picked second overall behind countryman Alexander Ovechkin in the 2004 Entry Draft, scored 21 goals and 47 points in 46 games in the Russian SuperLeague last season. And now he wants to play in Pittsburgh.

"I've already made up my mind for next season -- I'll be leaving for the NHL," Malkin told the Sport-Express newspaper. "I'm 100 percent sure of that.

When asked how much the Penguins should have to pay for the services of Malkin, Velichkin made a comparison to soccer star Andriy Shevchenko's move from Dynamo Kiev to AC Milan for $25 million.

"Dynamo received millions from Milan for Shevchenko, why can't we get that?, asked Velichkin. "But I can't name the exact price for Malkin. We must wait for Pittsburgh's offer first.

I don't know if he'll be available, but they should get Erik Johnson instead. That way, they have Crosby and Malkin as their top forwards. And Johnson and Whitney as their top defensemen. Couple that with Fleury as their number 1 goaltender, and that would make a top five consisting of all high draft picks :o

I'm acually hoping that Crosby can play on Malkins wing. Crosby has looked great playing as Bergeron's RW and I think that same chemistry can be found with Malkin. Malkin is great at following up plays and head manning the puck while Crosby is awesome at leading the attack.

Then the Pens can draft Staal, a player that I think is like Jeff Carter with better hands but not in Malkins elite class, and either dangle it in front of the Canes for Jack Johnson or have the twin towers at center. In the end I like a few of the top rated players in this draft. Just not Kessel.

At least the Oilers showed some spirit in the second game, even if it wasn't a win.

They had some great opportunities to tie it up late in the third period, but couldn't capitalize. They would be way more effective on the power play if they actually advanced with the puck as opposed to passing it back and forth along the borders the whole time

Wow I'm really angry...

what a stupid loss

I like how the games are going this round... if both New Jersey and Ottawa drop it'd be sweet. :D

I'd actually prefer to see an Oilers and Senators final.

One chance for an all-Canadian Stanley cup.

I'd like that as well...but I don't think it's in the cards unfortunatley. Not unless Edmonton stops making mistakes and Ottawa keeps the pressure up.

That almost 5-on-1 powerplay for the Oilers yesterday almost gave me a heart attack  :(

hahaha yeah, I couldn't believe that. 5 on 3, and 2 guys lose their sticks

I'm glad they scored at the end though...because if they didn't score with that opportunity...it would have been really sad.

My favorite team (Flames) is already out. :(

Now I'm hoping either Anaheim or Buffalo will win the Cup. :)

The Flames... eh its to easy to take shots at a team that hasn't won a cup since 1989.

You get a pass...

But I hope Buffalo & Anaheim both lose now...especially Anaheim.

If Anaheim wins I hope they reconsider the name-change for next season.

All they're doing is dropping the "Mighty" right? I was hoping that they would change it to the Mallards. That sounds like a classic hockey team and more manly. (This coming from a Penguins fan.)

pfft...if the officials weren't blind, Calgary would have won the cup in game #6 at home in 2004 against Tampa.

I'm excited...3 great games on tonight  :D

Wow. Anaheim, Buffalo, and Carolina are all up 3-0 in their respective series.

I hope the same thing doesn't happen to San Jose tonight....:(

Wow. The 2nd round hasn't been very fun much to watch. Let's hope the Finals aren't a sweep.

Sabres, anyone?
haha
So many people weren't expecting Buffalo to do this well. (myself included and i'm from Buffalo.)
I know it's a longshot, but if they go all the way.. it'll make my life.
