The idea behind it from the way i read it is that a true movie buff needs to be able to appreciate a wide variety of genres and styles

Star Wars (4,5,6)
Batman Begins
Indiana Jones Series
Back to the Future Series
Black (Hindi/Engish movie based onthe Hellen Keller story)
Jurassic Park
Superman: The Movie
Saving Private Ryan
Mulan
Atlants: The Lost Empire
Toy Story 1,2

....and many more these are must see movies.

still, Armageddon... come on...
The reasoning behind that one was that Bruckheimer is undeniable and that Armageddon was the height of his 90's excess,it did surprise me as well though

Well not all of them,i would say Die Hard,The Killer/Hard Boiled and ROTLA would be considered the pinnacle of the genre

look at the list I posted earlier....

it ranges fromdifferent types of movies....

None of them made it in, though they are definitive movie of theri genre....

T2 is better than all of them IMO, many here would agree i think.

Premiere Action Movie would be T2 but I would throw in Raiders there too.
Sci-Fi/Fantasy the Star Wars Trilogy

I've seen a little more than half, I need to up my foreign films that I watch :(

I smell a thread

I love T2 but i think Die Hards Mclane character sets it higher cinematically and ROTLA is almost beat perfect right through IMO
You're right about the 2 Woo HK movies i listed though as most US/Euro fans probably haven;t seen them but they do have trememndous inventive action that inspired a lot of Hollwood 90's action

Mclane is awesome, as you know, i'm not much of a Indy fan. You should make a thread, see how it turns out. Die Hard is great but T2 has a robot and the film actually makes us care about it, well, it does that to me atleast.

For Animated movies: Mulan (a great deep animated movie),or possibly TOy Story, or Atlantis:The Lost Empire.

For Super Hero Movie: Batman Begins, Superman: The Movie,

War: Saving Private Ryan

Scifi/Fantasty: Star Wars Trilogy (4,5,6), Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Back to the Future Trilogy

I don't know Raiders solidifies the rough and tumble, flawed, human action film star way before McClane.

Oh i agree with you on T2,i think Arnie gives a very underrated performance, with the little mannerisms that John teaches him slowly humansiing him or at least giving him an understanding of humans I just think Die Hard is a little better overall

Man, this thread makes me feel like the hype needs to make the Hype's Top 25 Movies thread so we can make a definitive list of movies from all genres...

there both the same for me, i'd rate them 10/10, but i'm a huge Arnie fan, so T2 wins just because of that ;).

I wouldn't say Indy has the flaws or biting cynicism that McClane has although one could argue that all anti heroes onscreen are to an extent born out of or mimic Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry and Man with No name characters
