The Adam Project (Ryan Reynolds & Zoe Saldana)

He has more dramatic scenes here than he did in the likes of Free Guy and Red Notice.
And to be fair, I don't even think Free Guy was Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Reynolds. His character in Free Guy was not the snarky, cocky foul mouthed arc type that Reynolds plays

This was pretty good. By Netflix or straight to streaming standards, this is one of the better movies I've seen with that release strategy (not counting when WB moved their slate to HBO Max).

Nothing to really complain about, but there just wasn't anything special that will make me watch it again. But it's a pretty good movie that you can watch with pretty much anybody.
It has action, but not enough to turn off action haters. It's comedy is pretty basic, but not basic enough to unimpress some. It's not too raunchy or too kid friendly. Performances are good to fine at worst. Storyline is good with standard time travel movie issues.
The only thing to really complain about was the villain and especially some of the CGI used on one of the villains

The definition of a pretty good movie that won't have much impact but I don't think was trying to anyway. And that's cool

Yeah the villain was a let down... this was a typical Friday night rent a movie for the hell of it kind of movie. I didn't enjoy Mark Ruffalo in this either, a slighter older printing father would have worked better alongside Reynolds.

Watched it last night and I enjoyed it a lot. Felt like an 80s sci-fi adventure comedy throwback.

Simple to follow story with some great action and comedy thrown in. Also had some heartfelt emotional moments. Good performances from the cast. Was kinda surprised at how small of a role Mark Rufallo, Jennifer Garner and Zoe Saldana had but their parts were pretty significant

Looking forward to Levy & Reynolds team up again for Deadpool 3

This definitely captures the feel of the 80's era Amblin movies, from the story, to the humour to the heart it's all here, they even managed to make the love story work despite Zoe not having a load of screen time, and I thought the emotional stakes were beautifully played once Ruffalo comes into the movie as the Adam's Dad, you think about all the things you might say if you had the chance to see your Dad one more time, but my favourite scene was the one between Adam and his Mom at the bar, really well acted by Reynolds and Jennifer Garner, I think the theme at the centre of this film will resonate with most viewers of a certain age.

I find Reynolds to be hit and miss, much like Chris Pratt, both have an overreliance on irreverent, sarcastic humour if not kept in check by the director, but like in Free Guy I felt Levy got the best out of Reynolds, finding the balance between the humour, the seriousness and the sincerity while also being an action hero.

The action is decent and well shot, never exceeding the limits of the movies budget, the fights in particular were crisply done and the aerial sequence were pretty slick. My favourite sequences though was the chase with a nod to a cult 80's movie, MOTU! :D:
